LOL, we always have lots of fun figuring out 'more what' too! Even though Madison can say or sign what she wants more of, she rarely does and usually just stops at 'more', leaving us to guess. Madison never really did it with nursing till I really started cutting it back around 18 months. She was down to just 1st thing in the morning anyway, so I know there's not much milk left, but I really found that out when she finished nursing one morning, looked up at me and said 'mama' then signed 'more'. I felt so bad for her! What I find so funny is that she'll sign to herself too. What I mean is that if she has a cup of milk on her highchair tray and decides she wants to drink some she'll sign 'milk' first, then pick up her cup, even when no one is looking at her. It's weird (like most things she does!) but cute!

Just wanted to add a link to this article about keeping your kids rearfacing past the 1 year and 20 pound mark. Someone posted it on the family board but I thought it was good info to share with other mommies.

Wow, this thread has really been moving since I was last on here! I will try to play catch up but if I miss anyone I apologize!

Gretchen~ We are also planning to start trying for our 2nd (and last) baby next year. We are probably going to start trying around the end of Sept. or beginning of Oct. though. Maybe you and I will be on the moms to be thread together again, lol! Anyone else considering ttc next year sometime?

SL~ After seeing Lucas in his booster highchair I went to Toys R Us to see what they were like and how much they cost. I am now planning to buy one this weekend! Kylie loves her highchair but the booster one would be so much more convenient when we go out. The good news is b/c I take surveys I have 2 Toys R Us giftcards and should be receiving $20 in the mail soon. I also got to take a survey last time I shopped at TRU and b/c I took it I get $3 off my next purchase. On top of that b/c I spent over $75 (new carseat AND an exersaucer for Kylie's Christmas present) I got a promotional $10 gift card so the booster seat will end up being free and I will have money left to spend! I will probably use some of that to shop for my person in the exchange.

Welcome Jill and John Paul! :cheer2: :cloud9: He is too adorable!!! Sorry your c-section has been rough so far. I know mine was not too bad but I wasn't really doing much the first 2 weeks either. And I was back in my regular clothes quickly but I didn't start wearing them until after my 6 week checkup b/c they weren't comfortable like the maternity clothes were against my incision. I have lost all my preg. weight but my stomach seems much flabbier to me and my breasts seem saggier which surprised me considering I am not that well endowed up top and I didn't bf. Oh, well! I will have to try the exercises that DisKim mentioned. I need to lose about 50 lbs to feel really good about myself again anyway though but I am going to focus more on that after New Year's since we have so many get-togethers during the holidays and it will be sooo tempting to eat all of that delicious looking food. After New Year's I really need to get on the ball so I can lose a little before we ttc again.

Tamie~ Tyler's pictures are great! He gets more adorable every day!

DisKim~ Wow, what a great looking family! Aidan is really growing! And you look great! Have fun in Florida!

Hi Laura and Jacob! :wave2: I can't believe Jacob is already 2.5 months old! Wow, seems like just yesterday you announced your pregnancy! I will add him to our b-day list!

Disney Enthusiast~ Yes, Kylie has very pretty blue eyes which I am thrilled about. I wanted a blue-eyed baby but was sure they would end up turning brown like mine or greenish-hazel like dh's. I know they still could but so far it doesn't seem likely as the color has never changed even a little and we both do have a lot of blue eyed folks in our families.

Hillbeans~ I am so sorry that Liam has colic! :guilty: I hope it improves soon. I have a bjorn too but I have never used it. I am thinking I might get a sling with our next though.

DisneyPhD~ I am also planning to teach Kylie sign language. I think it's great especially since my brother is deaf. I am glad Lily and Madison have done well with it. When did you first start signing to Lily? I am thinking of trying around 9 months but doubt she will start signing back till months later. But atleast she will see me doing it which will help. Thanks for the link to the signing video. I will have to look into that. I know some sign language of course but I have never attempted teaching it to an infant before!

Alice~ I can't believe it has been about a year since we all really started getting to know eachother on the moms to be thread! Life is really moving now that the babies are here! I am glad it is almost time for your dh to come home! :goodvibes

justhat~ That was very rude that the mom brought her 2 year old. I would have stayed home if I couldn't find a babysitter since it was really clear that it was adults only. But I have learned that some people have little or no respect. Oh, well, hope you had fun anyway! And thanks for the link. Someone posted that on another forum I visit and it is good info. I plan to keep Kylie rear-facing until she weighs 30 lbs which is the maximum limit for rear-facing in her carseat. I have a Graco Comfortsport.

Phew! Okay, I think I covered most everyone and hi to anyone I forgot!

Kylie's eye is looking much, much better! I rescheduled her pictures for this Sunday and you probably won't even be able to tell she ever had a bruise. That makes me feel better anyway! She is really moving since this weekend (which explains why she rolled off the bed!). She keeps trying to crawl but can't quite grasp it just yet. She'll raise onto her knees and tilt to the side and end up rolling over instead. Or she'll raise onto her arms and forget her knees altogether. Or she'll raise onto both arms and knees and get a surprised look on her face and drop back onto her stomach really fast. It is actually pretty funny and cute to watch, lol!

She said 2 words today but I don't think that there was any meaning to what she said, more like just babbling. She said "mama" and "no" but like I said I don't think she meant to really say it so much as she was just making sounds. She does know how to say "hi" though and has been saying it since she was 3.5 months old and she does know what that means. She says it to anyone and anything she likes...especially people and animals. If she likes you she will tell you hi. If she doesn't know you or doesn't click with you will not get a hi from her, lol! That's all that's new here! Hope you are all doing well! And I hope all the sick babies are feeling better!

Tasha we're actually planning to start on baby 2 next September or October too! I really feel like I want to start sooner, but I know that we'll definitely be moving in May/June and since it might be out of state I don't want to have to make a big move when I'm pregnant. I was very, very sick with Madison for the 1st 18 weeks so I'm thinking if that happens the next time around I would not want to be moving too. Even if we stay in DC (which I really, really, really want to happen!) it will still be a big move as we're getting rid of lots of our furniture-everything in our bedroom, our kitchen table, desk, hall table, coffee table, and maybe more stuff. Basically all that is coming with us is Madison's bed, dresser, toy boxes, couches, and entertainment center. The rest of the stuff is all junk we got in college so no way would I pay to move it anywhere again. But I'm thinking that with all that comes with a move, plus having to get new furniture so basically living out of boxes till we do (cause I know we'll never get it together to buy stuff and have it ready by the time we move to the new place), that waiting till we're moved and settled in the new place is the best idea.

Oh, and we still have Madison rearfacing, but she's going to have to turn forward soon. Even though she's got plenty of time weight-wise in her seat (hers goes to 30 lbs. too and she weighs about 23 right now), she's almost too tall. Their head is supposed to be an inch away from the top of the seat to be rearfacing (cause in a crash they 'ramp up' so if their head is at the top of the seat in a crash it would actually go over the seat) and Madison is closing in on that inch. She's about 33.5 inches, so I'm thinking 35 will be our max, depending on how much height she gets in her legs vs. her torso.

Okay, I have a question for those of you who have completely weaned a child. Sorry, I know it's probably going to be TMI, but I need advice from those of you who have done it before. Madison has been down to 1 nursing a day since, hmm, July I think-she only nurses when she first wakes up. So my milk supply has obviously been greatly reduced. I was actually debating whether or not she was still getting milk till she starting signing 'more' after she nursed both sides-I figured that meant she was getting someting since I wanted more. Anyway, I'm ready to take the last step and cut out the nursing altogether so I figured the easiest way to do that would be while we're away since we'll be in a different environment so I could distract her. Well, twice last week we skipped nursing in the morning (not planned by me, just sorta worked out like that based on the time Madison got up) and I noticed that at the end of the day I started to feel mildly uncomfortable, and by the end of the 2nd day I was a little more uncomfortable, but still not really bad. The past two days we have skipped nursing again. My husband gave her Benedryl for a cold Monday night so she was very hard to get up yesterday morning so she slept later and was hard to get up so I was not going to offer to nurse her. Same thing happened this morning (well, no Benedryl this time) but then I noticed that again I had that slightly uncomfortable feeling, and I was feeling around and felt sorta 'full' and then felt what kinda feels like the blocked ducts I had when she was a newborn. I made a very, very stupid decision to send my breastpump with Joey to my mom's house last weekend (we store everything we're not using anymore there) so now I can't even pump to get some of the milk out. I really don't want to go back to that engorged feeling I had when Madison was a newborn, nor go back to blocked ducts (I had double mastitis in the beginning too and that was horrible). So okay, after all this info, my question basically is how did you completely wean? Did you just have to deal with the pain of milk going unused or am I doing something wrong? I thought about trying to go every other day, but thought it would be really confusing to Madison so I decided against that. We're leaving for Hawaii tomorrow morning, so the last thing I want is to be totally uncomfortable, or gosh, I hadn't even thought of this, but leaking milk on our trip. I don't even have breast pads anymore. Ugh, maybe I should have thought this through a little better.

Justthat. The same thing happened with Anna, but she was 27 months old and very verbal. It was just once a day when she woke up, (sometimes we skipped it too) anyway I noticed she would only nurse for a few seconds so I asked if she got any milk. She said "no milk" Sometimes she would be said "NOOOOO MILK" other times mater of fact. Anyway after that she asked to nurse and I would say no milk. Sometimes she belived me, once or twiced she wante to try to be sure. I never got ingorged (I was concenred about that.) It just happened natrually.

Things you can do. Take a warm shower and let the milk come out then, hand express, put cold compresses on them. I have heard cabbage leaves in your bra does wonders.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips! I'll be trying a cold compress first cause I honestly don't know how to hand express. I tried but never really figured it out. My right breast (which was always Madison's favorite side so it always had more milk) is very sore right now so I'm really hoping that I can get rid of the pain. I think I'm just so afraid of feeling like I did when I had mastitis that I'm sorta overly panicking about this. I just might have to stop and pick up some cabbage too. It's funny cause I usually shower around now cause I typically go to the gym when Madison is in school, but since we're leaving tomorrow morning and I haven't packed yet I figured I should get started on that while I'm Madison-free.

Very nice pics, Diskim :flower: . Hope you have a great time in Florida :sunny: .

Justthat,
I bf my DS for a short time and the uncomfortable feeling should go away in a few days. The warm water will help but it will also prolong the process if you express any milk. Wearing a very supportive bra even to sleep should help. Have a wonderful time in Hawaii :sunny: ! And yes the parent who brought the child would have ticked me off too.

I would really like to do sign language with Katrina. I have a book about signing with your baby I'll have to dig out.

Thanks for link on rear facing in the car seat. That's very interesting and I've never heard that before. Katrina is still in her infant carrier but I'll have to check the requirements on her next size car seat.

Hi moms. Jimmy still isn't his old self. Again, my DS is watching him. I just checked on them and he was eating some fruit puffs and bananas. As long as he's hydrated, I'm not too worried. I just think his teeth are coming and that's what's making him so crabby.

I am still about 5lbs. heavier than when I got pg. I did lose 10lbs. before getting pg, so I consider myself ahead of the game. My body, however, is different than it was before. I have more meat on my hips and around my back toward my rear. All my old clothing fits and some of it is actually too big. I also have really nice arms for the first time ever. It must have something to do with lifting my 24lb. butterball up a million times a day. ;)

I am continuing my quest to finish my Christmas shopping before the stores get nuts. I'm ordering gifts for my ds, dh, and bf from Amazon tomorrow. I am hoping on Friday I can get all my nieces and nephews done. I have to buy for 5 kids. DH and I told his mom we didn't want to do Secret Santa with his sisters and their husbands this year. It's just a waste of $50. With all the kids to buy for, I think that's enough for all of us.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

justhat~ Have you thought about trying a breast binder? I didn't bf (well, I did try once but that was it) but I had very full painful breasts when my milk supply came in. The hospital gave me a breast binder that I wore nonstop, other than showering, for about 2 weeks until my milk dried up. It really worked! The only time I felt any pain was when I wasn't wearing it. That might be an option for you.

Thanks for the suggestions. Valerie, you're right, expressing it will make the process go longer (which was really the reason I sent the breastpump up to NJ, to take away the temptation!), but I'm getting to the point where I feel like I need to get rid of some of the milk cause the pain is getting more significant. Tasha, I have never heard of a breast binder so I'm going to check into that right now. Hopefully somewhere near me will have one cause if it helps with pain relief I'm all for it! My husband is taking his board exams today, and it's like a 8-10 hour test, otherwise I'd have him check the hospital for them. He's always got to throw a wrench in my plans!

We went to the Dr. today. He's not quite sure what his rash is. The Dr. gave us a steriod creme and an antibiotic.

I started Christmas shopping and have about 5 people done and I just finished wrapping them! I have vowed to not save stuff until the last minute this year!

justthat - good luck!

Thanks for the signing stuff. I need to go the library and see what they have. I want to do just a few basic ones with Tyler.

have a good day everyone!

Tamie

Justthat - I'm not nursing, but it took me a few days (painful) for the milk supply to go away. I did use cabbage leaves and ibuprofen, but I think anytime you dry up your milk supply, it's going to be uncomfortable at best and painful for some. Good luck with it (and your DH's exams too).

Lisawynn - I hope Jimmy starts to feel better soon! Poor little thing!

LLIJ - Hope you're feeling better each day from your C-Section.

Hi to Gretchen, Vald, SL, DisneyPHD - :goodvibes :)

Tykes - good for you with your christmas shopping. I've only bought one or two things, but i'm already picking things to buy for people and i'm going to do a bulk of my shopping on line this year - so many places offer free shipping too.

Tasha - Sounds like Kylie is really trying to get around these days - the real fun will soon begin! No TTC for me - I think i'm done. I went through so much to have this baby (with the 2 m/c's and the stress) and i've always wanted 2 children. It's hard to think that i'm "done" having children, but I feel so blessed with the two children we've had (even though they're hard work sometimes!!!).

Alice - the Christmas cards from Costco with the flag on them sound perfect for you this year. If you can scan one to show us when they're done, we'd love to see it.

DisKim - have a wonderful time in Florida!!!

And lastly, thank you to everyone who gave me advice about their Baby Bjorn...I used it most of the early evening last night and today, and he's crying a lot less - so far it's only been about 1/2 hour of on and off crying tonight. DH has him right now and he's playing with him in his bouncy chair at the moment.

If I missed anyone, I apologize...hope everyone is doing well.

Hillbeans - Glad to hear that the Baby Bjorn is working out! :goodvibes

Justhat - Good luck with weaning. I just "dried up" my milk supply due to my hormones being too wacko with me getting sick non-stop. It sure wasn't fun. Quite painful indeed and I really feel for you. Hopefully, the discomfort with be over shortly. Hot showers helped and I heard that cabbage works well too. I also wore a tight bra non-stop for a week.

We just got back from John's 2 week visit and overall he is doing great. His cleft palate makes his eating a little more challenging so his weight gain is rather slow. He isn't back up to his birth weight, but he is almost there! :goodvibes We go in again next week for another weight check. The doctor is also switching us over to a high calorie formula so we can get some meat on his bones. :teeth: I feel so bad for the little guy since eating takes up a lot of energy for him. Thankfully, the special bottles and nipples are helping and we go later on today to see the specialists who will be doing the surgery on him. Overall, his cleft palate is very mild and only affects his soft palate so we are grateful that it can be taken care of with one surgery. We are definitely counting our blessings with this little guy!

I'm off to take a quick nap while John is napping! He decided last night that he wanted to "play" from 2 to 4:30 in the morning. I had forgotten about those newborn days of total sleep deprivation. :flower:

I hope that everyone is doing well! :wave2:

ETA: I forgot to add that after the doctors appointment, DH and I ran with baby across the street to the grocery store to order his special formula and get a prescription filled for him. The check out lady gave us a hard time for having the baby out which made me mad. I told her that we were just across the street at his doctors and needed to come get his medicine. She then quieted down, but her comments were uncalled for. I totally forgot about how people tell you what you should do when you have babies. Ugh! Ok, I feel better now.

So glad to hear littke John is doing well - he's so cute!!

Get your rest while you can....but it's good to hear you're doing well also.
When Liam was 2 weeks old, I had him at the grocery store (without a hat, it was near 65 degrees) and a woman told me to "get on home and put a hat on the child". Then, she swung her arm around to give me a pat on the back (I guess) and mistakenly hit me on the center of my back with her keys...she didn't mean to hit me with her keys, but I was so annoyed at her I just said "What is your problem" and walked away. And yes, everyone's going to have an opinion on what you're doing WRONG with your child, but you're his mom and you make the decisions (and IMO you did the right thing). You were getting his much needed medicine, and getting out of the house for a few minutes when you've got a newborn is necessary for your mental health to boot!

Edited to add - what do they need to do for his surgery? It sounds serious? I wish you all the best of luck with it - let me or us know if you need anything at all.

Afternoon! I should be preparing stuff for my sub for tomorrow, but I thought I'd try to catch up for a minute or two.

Alice28 - I have had terrible problems with my sciatic nerve for the last 6 years. I stopped going to the chriopractor when I was about 5 mo. pg. He moved to a new office and it was just too far away for me to go once a week. I am thinking about making an appointment with a new one closer to home. I have a terrible time falling asleep at night due to sciatic pain. I am guessing that carrying around a 24lb. infant isn't making it any better.

llij - I'm glad to hear your son is well. Don't you just love when strangers comment on your baby? I always get the "My, he's such a big boy for his age". My child is not gargantuan (sp?) by any means, and I'm sick of telling people that we have big people on both sides of our families.

Not much new to report here. Jimmy ate much better last night and he seems to be perking up. I hope he's back to "normal" soon. His clinginess is making it impossible for me to do anything at home.

Hello Im Amy, I guess Im not considered a NEW mommy since I have a 22 month DD, but I do have a new baby. I gave birth to my 2nd DD 8/16/05 so she is almost 3 months already. Its not easy taking care of 2 children that are young, but I manage.

2sweetangels - Congrats and welcome! :flower:

llij - Glad to hear John Paul is doing well. :goodvibes I also think people should mind their own business. Especially about you moms who have other children - don't they think you know what you're doing by now?

tkyes - Hope the cream and antibiotic work.

Hillbeans - Glad the Bjorn is working out.

lissawynn - Glad Jimmy is feeling better.

Lucas has had a stuffy nose for the past few days. Early in the week he was really cranky and just not himself but his spirits seemed to pick up about Wednesday. He's still stuffy though. I bought a humidifier for his room. I had registered for one, but never got it and I'm so glad because I found an elephant shaped one at Target which I think is absolutely hilarious.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Anything fun planned? We're hoping to get out to IKEA to look for a rug for the living room and will probably spend most of the weekend catching up on all the shows we recorded on the DVR.

Welcome 2sweetangels! Trust me, you qualify as a new mom on this thread! Many of the moms on here have more than one child and some are moms to babies 1+ years old. You are still a new mom as long as you consider yourself a new mom and this thread would not be the same without those moms! :goodvibes

Tamie~ Hopefully this time Tyler's rash will clear up! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Jill~ I think people are way too bold when it comes to telling others how to raise their children! What nerve! Glad John Paul is doing well!

SL~ Hope Lucas feels better soon! That humidifier is so cute! We don't have a Target near us. The closest is about 3 hours away in Jackson, MS.

Well, thought I would post while I have the chance and bump the baby christmas exchange info. since I will be gone all weekend and won't be able to get on here again until Monday which is the last day for signups. Right now we have 11 mommies (counting myself!) who are doing the exchange! :cheer2: That is awesome but we would be more than happy if any other mommies still want to join. Here is the info. (copy and pasted) from earlier in this thread. Just PM the following if you would like to participate.

1.Baby's name
2.Address
3.Baby's age
4.What size clothing baby will be in around December or what size clothing you'd prefer to receive.
5.Any notes you wish to include such as if there is some type of toys you wouldn't mind having or if their is something you wouldn't want your child to have, any known allergies, if you'd prefer toys over clothes or vice versa. Basically anything you feel is important for your person to know. If you have no prefererence in what you receive just don't include any notes. And don't send too many notes or it will take the fun out of shopping for your baby. 1-2 notes should be fine though.
6. Are you willing to ship internationally? We have one mom from the UK in this exchange and I plan to randomly draw names. I don't want to assign her to somebody who doesn't want to ship internationally so just let me know.

I am going to let people sign up until Monday, November 14, at 5 p.m. (6 p.m. eastern) in case people aren't sure if they can or we have any new moms before then. I will give out names on Tues., the 15th, and we will have a mail by date of December 2. The minimum is $10 plus S & H, but you can spend more if you'd like but it's not required. It's a flexible exchange. Send what you'd like...clothes, toys, Christmas cards, etc. But do take into consideration any notes that your person includes. If you are interested in joining us please PM me. Any questions? PM me! I will try to check back tonight just in case. Otherwise it will be Monday before I can get back on here. I will bump this info. again Monday morning for any last minute moms.

Well, this weekend is going to be busy. I leave tomorrow morning around 4 a.m. :earseek: to drive the hour long drive to my mom's house to help her with her yard sale and hopefully sale a bunch of my stuff as well. I will probably be there all day. Scott and Kylie will be staying home and it will be the first time I have really been away from Kylie since birth but I am honestly not worried about it. She'll be just fine with her daddy.

Sunday we are having her pictures made (knock on wood that nothing will happen before then since this is already the 3rd time we have had to reschedule!!!) and then we are going to dh's grandmother's for the afternoon.

Hope you all have a great weekend! :wave2:

Welcome Amy! I'm technically not a "new" mom either, as my oldest is almost 8, but I think we are all still learning new mom techniques as the days go by.

SL- I saw that humidifier at Target too- it's SO FUNNY! Hope Lucas feels better ASAP.

Another one here who could smack people for their stupid, naive, baby-butting-in comments. I don't think I received too many of them with Molly, but have with the boys. Irritating.

I don't know much ladies- I had a fun day out with the boys yesterday, and when I added everything up, realized I spent $150! We saw Chicken Little in 3D- the theater charged extra so a MATINEE for 2 kids and 1 adult was just under $23!! I just about croaked. Went to Gymbo for the big sale and only spent $33- so proud of myself. They gave me a postcard telling of a big sale the day after T-Day, and I heard a rumor that Gymbucks earning will start again too then....so I wanted to wait to buy anything else anyway.

Missing my DH a lot- as we get closer and closer to his homecoming, I find myself getting impatient and am trying to do anything I can to keep distracted. Not to be corny, but if you can, thank a Vet today!

That's about all I know- hope everyone has a nice, long weekend with their babies!
