The *OFFICIAL JUNE 2011 THREAD* "Some Like it Hot" & Some Like it Even Hotter! Part 2

Okay, so remember how yesterday I said that Epcot crowds were nothing? Well, that was not the case today. We went to MK today and WOW. I have never seen so many people in my life!!

Touring Plans just changed MK from a neutral park to a park to avoid for today. But since I already had plans and ADRs I didn't want to go changing everything on what I thought was a whim. After all, there are no EMHs at MK today so my thinking was that TP must be wrong. Nope, they were right. Lots of big groups (you can tell by all the matching T-shirts) and today seemed to be the first day of a lot of people's vacations and of course they went to MK.

We got there a tad late- we were going through bag check as the opening ceremony was happening. Not the worst thing in the world, but that's the result of staying up late after the Mavs win :D It was also very hot. Just be prepared to be a sweaty mess all day. Second day of no relief from an afternoon storm.

Here's what we got done this morning:
-Carousel (walk on)
-Splash Mountain FP
-Princess Tiana meet and greet (This was huge for us. We got in line at 9:15 and saw her at about 9:50. Thre was no way we would miss it. )
-Mickey's Philharmagic (walk on)
-Peter Pans FP (with surprise Philharmagic FPs)
-Small World (5 minutes)
-Tea Party (15 minutes)
-Lunch at CHH
-Hanted Mansion (15 minutes)
-BTMRR FP

We left the park at 1pm. Crowds and heat were just too much, were were getting grumpy. We plan to use our FPs this evening, maybe do Pirates in standby and watch the parades and fireworks. We missed out on Dumbo (I refuse to stand in the hot sun for 45 minutes for that) so maybe we can catch it this evening. We have another MK day on Wednesday to do Tomorrowland.

Fantasyland is just a mess in the morning. Soooo many people, no shade, etc. But when DH went to get Splash FPs he said that part of the park was empty, both Splash and BTMRR were walk on for an hour or so. I hate to say it but I can't wait until we're not bound by Fantasyland. All those slow loaders, all those strollers. Ugh. But the kids love it.

Last thing before my nap... The upstairs area of CHH is the best kept secret in WDW. So nice and serene up there. Almost always emptty, at 11:30 we were one of three families up there. Great place to recharge.

Thanks for the update! It sounds like even with the crowds you guys did a lot without a lot of waiting.

I am just now getting to report since coming back late Friday night. It was very hot every day with no rain to cool it down. Crowds were huge. Get to the parks as early as possible. Try to be in line way before opening. Friday we went to Epcot and they did not let anyone go though the ticket station until 8 am (EMH). We did not get through the ticket station until 8:15. So by the time we got to Soaring it was already a 20 min. wait. We next went to Test Track with 10 min wait.

We were drained by 12. everyday because of the heat. We had to go back for a nap. Just do your best to stay cool and get inside when you can. Utilize the fast-passes. They will help you from standing in line in the heat. In Animal Kingdom this is essential. It was still a fun time at Disney just hot. I think next time we go it will not be in the summertime.

I hope everyone going soon has fun and stays cool(if possible).

I am not looking forward to the heat. :( And that is kinda lame about not letting people in until 8, seems like if you weren't there super early you'd almost miss that extra hour.

tuesday update
went to blizzard beach this morning. It was our first time. DH was able to go on most of rides. He has a heart condition that make it hard for him to go upstairs. Another hot day. 91Degress right now. Nice to take break from crowded parks. Just started to rain. Posting ftom phone.

Greetings from the Lorton, VA, AutoTrain station! Our one hour trip here was pretty uneventful...a little bit of traffic in Northern VA but that wasn't unexpected! We arrived just after 1pm, check-in was easy and quick and we got assigned another car so both rooms will be on the same floor instead of upstairs and downstairs.

Free Wi-Fi here in the station. We can board the train in one hour. Kids were excited about the train...and full of questions about it...many we can't answer as we've never done this before. Probably won't be back online much between 2:30pm and tonight, but might try to post a quick update from my phone before bedtime!

Last week was 102 here and today it's only 72. Go figure! At least with the temps being so hot the last few weeks here, we are prepared for heat.

Quick phone update as Internet Access from my phone is slow and spotty at best. So far. So good. Getting on board was very smooth as you enter in your own car. Doesn't seem too crowded...several empty rooms. We played cards and dice games in the lounge for a while and had some free wine! ;) Dinner was pretty good...no food porn but we had salad, bread, steak, veggies and baked potato. Dessert for me was a pretty good piece of chocolate cake with ice cream. Oh and MORE free wine! ;) Others had cheesecake. The movie tonight is the J. Bieber one so we passed. We are all currently in larger bedroom watching Mulan on the netbook. After this they will convert our rooms to beds and we will see how we sleep with the rocking motion and some creaking. Arrival time is about 9:30am and then another 45 mins or so to Disney. Oh and wanted to mention people here (other travelers and staff) all are quite friendly, though the group of 6 or 7 drinking in the lounge may get interesting later...but we won't be there.

Sounds like the autotrain is not bad. We wanted to try it so you will have to tell us whether it is worth it or not when you get back. Glad that you got to enjoy yourself a little bit. Sounds much better than us driving straight through. But that's what we do every year so I just have to gear myself up a few days before and sleep the day that we are going to leave so we are super well rested.

I have 1 1/2 more teaching days but tomorrow just have one exam block in the morning and then the kids get to play the rest of the day and watch movies for our end of the year celebration. The last 1/2 day is a joke. I am just going to have the kids make posters for the incoming sixth graders. That's about it. Then, we have lunch in the afternoon and Friday I just have to finish my grades and I am DONE!!

It came UPS 1 day air. That doesn't seem like it would be normal! Have you called about it?

Yes. But because we went through a travel agent, they said they needed her to call. She has called three times and they swear they were sent last week for the second time. The TA is out until tomorrow so hopefully they are there now. I will be so upset if we don't get them soon! We love our TA and have never had an issue until this year. I will call her first thing in the morning. Nothing is going to ruin my Disney trip!

Hi everyone sorry haven't been on for awhile. My brother passed away last Thursday so been out of town for funeral. At least he isn't suffering anymore.

On brighter side, we are in single digits.:cool1: 9 more days!! So, so need this vacation.

To everybody there having fun I so envy you! To those of you going soon I envy you more!!

To everyone stay safe and COOL!!:rotfl:

We're back! Just a few notes, gotta get to bed.

-We were Family of the Day at MK on Saturday, 6/11. So happy to be picked, even though it put us behind in the Rapunzel Run. Disappointed though that we didn't get to interact with the characters at the rope drop show even one bit, just the Mayor.
-Rapunzel and Flynn were fantastic, Flynn was just like in the movie
-Saturday night we caught the Magic Memories and You show, then scooted over to ride BTMRR during the fireworks: Awesome on both counts
-We didn't really feel the heat till Sunday and Monday, which were Epcot and HS. I think that MK had more places to go in to that were not so far apart. I meant to explore World Showcase more in depth, but as a little British girl put it, "Daddy, it's TOOOO hot!" (Imagine in an accent- we got a kick out of it)
-Early in the morning is the way to go!!
-We never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus (POR) and usually it was much less than that.

Anjalee,

I am with you - I have 2 rooms - they have sent me the first room res documents twice. I keep calling and they keep telling me they were sent but I have yet to receive them. I finally spoke to the Document Center today and they told me they "anticipate" they will arrive just before I leave.

:confused3

Great report. Sounds like fun. We should be in the World in about 5 or 6 more hours!

Today we can finally do our single digit dance! Yay!:banana::banana::dance3: we officially leave in 8 days but arrive in 9! Can't wait!

We are here sorta of... We are in Orlando but won't check in to Pop until Friday. Yesterday we did Kennedy Space Center not too bad because it's small and most things are inside. Today is our full Sea World day! We are staying at Parc Soleil by Hilton until the Disney part (big surprise for our son's birthday) of our trip. This resort is awesome and I can't believe I'm saying this but I hate to leave in a few days....but we will be on Disney property and that will be all that matters!!!
