The MERS report scared me, especially because I have asthma. Back in 2009 when there was a pandemic I caught the swine flu and it was so miserable. It affected my asthma for several weeks afterward, and my asthma is usually under excellent control. But when I catch anything respiratory, even a cold, it knocks the asthma out of whack for a little while and I need my inhaler daily for weeks.
Right before our last WDW trip, there was a stomach virus going around, mainly with guests that had done one if the special safari tours at AK. DS7 got sick one night of the trip but was fine the next day. But then a few days later when we left, he just kept getting sick over and over again on the drive back home...to NY. We were going to stay two nights in Williamsburg, VA but we cut the trip short because I was so worried about him. He was keeping down only a couple of teaspoons of liquid at a time, or one small lollipop. Even after waiting a whole day he couldn't keep down a couple of bites of toast. I was in touch with the doctor a couple of times on that trip and we decided to just go home. There were no signs of dehydration but on more than one occasion I was worried. When I brought him to the doctor the next day he told me we did a great job keeping him hydrated. It was crazy, the whole thing, and I certainly hope nothing like that ever happens again. I will be armed and ready for this trip with the usual Clorox wipes (no one is allowed to touch anything in a hotel room or a cabin on a cruise ship until I clean!), Clorox bleach spray in case anyone gets norovirus (ONLY bleach kills that one and I have the hospital grade cleaner I bought on
amazon), paper towels and plenty of plastic bags.
