This is specifically why we get the Deluxe Dining Plan. We love food! It's almost half of the reason why we go to Disney. We eat at least one new meal/ restaurant per trip. Yum! Love food.

OMG !!! All this talk about food. You guys are making me hungry. :lmao:

My DD and I are Steak people...111 Heat Index today in DFW Texas in the shade...:beach:

I always talk about food!!! And as soon as I know what vacation I'm doing, whether it's our every-other-year trip to WDW or whatever vacation we're doing the year in between, the first thing I check is the food! The cruise we just went on was booked last August...from that point until literally when we left, I was looking at the menus all the time online! :rotfl2:

We are steak people too. I love to cook it at home, it's DS8's favorite food in the world, DS6 enjoys it and DH and I have always loved it. Every trip to WDW we have to go to some places where we can enjoy some steak! We all love Yachtsman and it will probably be a place we go to on every single trip...great steak, great atmosphere and just a short walk from BWV, what more could we ask for?! :)

Keep cool in the Texas heat! :beach:

I feel bad for any newbies coming over here... They might get scared they entered the over eaters thread hahahaha!!!!!!!
I'm scared of a slow cooker! But, you make it sound fantastic. I'm scared that my kids will start playing with it and the house will burn down.... Hmmm... Thinking about it now!!!
Yes, ds13 has been wanting to be a chef since he was 5. He has such a funny personality I think he would be great. Next yr he will be in HS (as well as his twin) so we need to think about whether to put him in a vocational school as they have a program for that. He wants to own a restaurant as well, but I would like to see him work at a resort or great restaurant. We shall see. It's funny how some kids just seem to know what they want.
Gosh, you have a rough schedule but you seem alot more on top of things than I am! :) but, the possibilities are endless now that I'm thinking of that slow cooker!!!!!
I too was looking at Flying Fish. But, a great view of wishes won it for me w/Narcosees since I'm too wimpy to brave MK on the 4th!!!
YES.... We do have a fine group hanging out here on the July board :) :)

I guess I'm wimpy too...I don't think I would brave MK or any of the WDW theme parks on July 4th. If we were to go at that time, we would probably make that day a resort pool day and just go onto the Boardwalk during the Epcot fireworks. If we didn't stay in that resort area or near any of the parks, I would be more inclined to go to Contemporary or Polynesian and watch fireworks from there.

I used to be scared of using a slow cooker. I was afraid the house would burn down if I left it on when I was at work. The concept of leaving something cooking while no one is home was so foreign to me...I mean, I would NEVER leave the oven running while I was not home, even to go to the corner store if I needed to buy something quickly! But I researched and researched online, and I spoke to some friends and colleagues who use slow cookers regularly. Everything I read, and everyone who I trust that uses one reassured me that they are perfectly safe. One year DH requested one for our anniversary because he loves to make chili and he said it would be great in a slow cooker. So I bought him a very large one, also figuring that when we have the family over for dinner I can prepare some nice dishes in there. He was so happy and made his chili right away! Our anniversary is November 18th so it was the perfect time of year to start cooking chili again...he loves making it in the dead of winter! I made some corn bread to go with it, and he was right...the chili definitely came out even better in the slow cooker! A colleague of his, who used to be a chef, mentioned that he makes his meatballs and sauce in his slow cooker (he is also Italian). I couldn't believe that! But it comes out so good, and no need to stir the sauce! It's a life saver on my late days!

Yes, I have things pretty together for when I work late but it is so hectic and I'm always so tired. I feel like I need more hours in the day and more days in the week to get everything done. 30-hour days and a 10-day week would be great, but oh well! You will most likely see me disappear from the DIS for quite a while during my busy season. :sad2:

It's really smart that you're going to look into vocational schools for your son. My DS8 had asked me if he could study cooking in college, and I told him they have special schools for that, which he could go to instead of a traditional 4-year university, right after high school. I said if he really wants to eventually open up his own restaurant, he could take some business courses at a local college to learn how to run a business, while he works as a chef after culinary school. Yes it is funny how some kids just really know what they want! He's still so young though, only going into 3rd grade next month, so we'll see if he sticks to this or chooses something else. As long as he's happy with what he does! My sister combined his interest in cooking and his love of Star Wars for his last birthday present...she bought him a Star Wars kids' cookbook! A couple of years before, she had bought him a set of kids' cookbooks, but this one was really special because everything is themed around Star Wars. She even got him a chef's hat that says on the front "May the Forks be With You". :rotfl2:

Newbies will be fine here...perhaps we should have begun this thread on the Restaurants Board as a "Disney Food Adventures July 2014" thread! :lmao:

I'm totally with you. My goal is to try at least one new restaurant on every trip too, and go to some of our must-do favorites!! I love the food at WDW!

I'm always looking at the menus on All Ears! When I click on the link to the menus and see they have been updated since I last checked them, I get so excited! Oh boy... ;)

You and me both!!! Before I logged on here, guess where I was?? :confused3 I was looking at those menus. I just can't stop looking, even when they don't change. The way my DH and I do our trip planning is this... We say where we would like to eat for the vacation. Add some new places by looking at the menus then have the kids look at the menus for each place. If there aren't at least 2 entrees that they would each eat, it gets cut! Then when we have a list, we see what days we would like to do each park and if we like that menu for lunch or dinner. Then if it is a choice of 2 we see what has something we REALLY want to try or more options. If we can't decide we ask the kids what they want to do more. Love that the kids can help plan the vacation as well now. FUN!!!

Well I'm so glad I am not the only one trying to plan my days and what I'm going to eat in 11 months. I've got about 11 TS credits going when I'm only allowed 7. A few OOP I guess. I was also looking at maybe doing a Hawaii trip instead but I love the inclusive service from WDW!
I think the most challenging part is figuring out what park/ADRs on what days since we don't know what the EMH for each park on what days are. I've got out the hours for this past july and working with that. There has got to be a method to this madness!!

Thanks for sharing your slow cooker experience, I think that might work for my family. I leave my house at 9:15 am and come home around10:30 PM. Im on this board every day, since I have a 90min commute. I enjoy thinking about wdw and all the planning involved. I'm always trying to get the perfect plan.
Also, love your ds chef hat! Awesome! My son made a meat sauce today for my parents, myself and his brothers and it was very good :) I heard one of the resorts offers a tour of their kitchen and I think my son would love that experience, as well as yours :) I need to find out which one though..
Back to work tomorrow, weekends are so fast and I need to get of this board, so addicting!

When looking at the restaurant menus, I always make sure I could say, "the boys would get either this or that"! :lmao: I look at the menus with them a lot too and when I hear the "ooh" and ahh" I know it's a good place! They're pretty easy to please though, and I make sure DS8 could have his steak at least a couple of times on vacation! I do the restaurant planning though. DH loves great food, but he trusts me to make the decisions. I still ask him questions though and get some input from him. He's not into looking at everything online and doing the research. He always says he's lucky I'm so neurotic about the planning because it makes his vacation more relaxing since I always have a specific park plan and we don't wait on long lines! But I always tell him that it also makes my vacation more relaxing (and more of a real vacation) because I do the planning ahead of time and everything is done before we go. Then it's just time to relax and enjoy everything. :thumbsup2

I do remember that when I was planning our July 2012 trip, the EMH hours were released a little before it was time to make our ADRs. But we checked in on July 23rd, so it might have been a week or so into January that they posted the park hours. Before that I went by the July hours from the year before, paying attention to which day of the week each park had morning EMH. From what I remember, it was either spot on or really close. But the earliest in July we have ever gone is July 13th, so I was always able to access park hours before ADR day came.

Wow, you have as long a work commute as my sister. She travels from Brooklyn, NY to the Bronx every day for work (she's an assistant principal at a high school). Her school is really great, but the commute is so long. I know a lot of people I work with who also have a long commute. I am very lucky to work 10 minutes from my house by car. It would probably take me an hour to walk to work. I never tried it but it could be done if necessary...but I would have to leave my house so much earlier and mornings are very hectic getting everyone out of the house and bringing the boys to my parents (they take them to school and pick them up every day...I am very fortunate that they happily do this for us). A colleague of mine who lives in the same neighborhood as us walks to work when the weather is nice...but like she says, she doesn't have any children yet to get ready in the morning!

I think that Jiko in the Animal Kingdom Lodge is the restaurant that has kitchen tours. I considered doing this on our 2012 trip but couldn't find the time to schedule it into our itinerary. Perhaps next summer will be the right time! I have to look into whether they still do this. DS8 and DS6 would probably both love this!

DH and I always toss around the idea of a theme park tour. DVC members get 15% off of them as of now. There are a couple that my kids are old enough for...one is the 1-hour Behind The Seeds tour at Epcot, and the other is a sort of scavenger hunt type tour at MK (forgot what it's called) where you have to do something like save everyone from the villain and look for clues doing it (something like that), I think it's around 3 hours. Trouble is, tours take away theme park ride time. I don't know...maybe we will do one on this trip, maybe not. Sometimes I feel like the boys may get a little bored with the Behind the Seeds tour at Epcot because I think the Living With the Land ride may be enough for them. But then again, it might be something that sparks their interest, especially since we eat dinner once at Garden Grill and the fruits and veggies they use come from what we see in Living with the Land. I told DS8 that on our trip last year and he was pretty amazed, since we had just eaten there when we went on the ride. Either way, the trip will be a lot of fun!

Now we just have to figure out which type of ticket to buy. We're definitely spending 2 full days at each: MK, Epcot and DHS. I'm thinking either a 6-day or a 7-day and going to Epcot on arrival day (since we will be on property early in the day) to eat around the world a little (or a lot! ;) ) for lunch, and then to go to Garden Grill as a nice first dinner with characters, yet it's family style so more relaxing than a character buffet. And maybe do a little shopping in the WS, which I love!!! We are also venturing out one day to take the kids to Legoland. They loved it last year and they want to go back next year...it was a really nice park! :thumbsup2

Can't believe Midori is back in school already. Next week starts my professional days and then the kids start the 26. Where has the summer gone?

My kids start on the 27th. This summer went by way to fast. I feel like we haven't done a thing. (Mt.Rushmore and Devils Tower) If is is not WDW it does not count in my book;)

We started our school routine last night. Ya know, dinner at a decent hour, showers, reading time, early bed times. Made me sad.

We are facing our last deployment for DH. He leaves in November for 4 months. July first is his last day of Active duty. YaY! 20 YEARS for us. I am very nervous about living in the outside world. Military life is all I know. Anyhoo,

May all of our kids have a safe, awesome, blessed school year. :wizard::wizard:

Wow that sure does sound busy! DH and I go back to work the day after Labor Day for 2 days before the kids start school. Being so busy constantly and waking up at 5am are the things I'm not looking forward to.

Can't believe Midori is back in school already. Next week starts my professional days and then the kids start the 26. Where has the summer gone?

I feel like this every year but I also feel like the years just keep flying, faster and faster. Before we know it, summer will be here again and we'll be asking where the year went!

You will have so much to celebrate at WDW! Here's to a safe deployment for your DH and a smooth transition next July! :)

We went to GG in may! We loved it and got the best character photos! To see ds13, ds13 & ds9 hugging Mickey and friends is priceless, this photos hanging up reminds me of that perfect week we had :) Im not even sure yet if we will go the 1st or 2cnd week in July (leaning Twds that 1st week) and not sure either what kind of ticket to buy either. Due to time. My boys like the WP, so if we do that we will only get one day per park. If no WP well I will get 5 park days.. Probably will go for 7 nights (unless my bonus is good then maybe 8 nights :))
My youngest would fall asleep during a tour I think, he has no patience for anything!!
The one thing we did not do in may that I would love too is explore Ak resort & WL, the tour of AK resort is something my boys would love but again, like you mentioned..... Time!!!!
My parents watch my boys as well so I can work :) I'm very fortunate for this or else I'm not sure what I would do. I live North of Boston but take the train and bus to get to work, like ur sister I LOVE my job it's just the darn commute!!!!
I can't believe summer is over!!!!!!! This year is going to fly...

My boys start the 1st week of sept. so next week I will attempt some sort of "routine" lol... I'm so happy for your family, I can't imagine 20yrs of military your dh is some guy!!!! I'm so full of respect for the men and women who make a career out of it. Your going to have such an amazing vacation and so much to celebrate in July :) :)
Wishing you an amazing year!

Summer is not over just yet! We still have quite a few weeks of nice weather left up north! I love the Fall here in NY. Love the weather, all the flavors of Fall, and just the cooler feel in the air. Just more hectic days because of school and work. But I can't stand winter. The cold doesn't bother me as much as the ice. I don't even mind some snow, it's when it turns to ice and makes walking even difficult to do, and we all get cabin fever! The boys love the snow but that's because they're too young to shovel yet!

If I had a choice between first and second week of July I'd go the second week, only because of the July 4th crowds. But WDW must also be even more magical on the 4th! I'm just not brave enough, and I have no idea how people do it Christmas week. I'm sure it's beautiful but it's also the busiest week of the year.

But the important thing is when we ask where the year went, we will ALL be going on our DISNEY VACATIONS!!!!!

YES!!!!!

I LOVE THE FALL!!!!!!!!! It's my favorite time of year... October & November, thanksgiving being my favorite holiday! I agree about the winter.. Lol... I can handle cold! I can handle some snow! But, that ice... I say a silent prayer that I don't fall in the middle of the street or sidewalk or anywhere!
I picked the week of the 4th because we never do anything that day anyway. I know the crowds are insane and figure for the actual 4th we will go to BB or stay at the resort just make an ADR at night :) the rest of the week make RD and maybe beat some of the crowds!?!

You will have so much to celebrate at WDW! Here's to a safe deployment for your DH and a smooth transition next July! :)

My boys start the 1st week of sept. so next week I will attempt some sort of "routine" lol... I'm so happy for your family, I can't imagine 20yrs of military your dh is some guy!!!! I'm so full of respect for the men and women who make a career out of it. Your going to have such an amazing vacation and so much to celebrate in July
Wishing you an amazing year!-momofboyz3

Thank you both for the support! These last 3 years have been tough. We were "supposed" to retire here, so we bought a house. Dh went to S.Korea for 18 months and received orders to a new base here in the states. :sad1:

But, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
