*** The Official July 2014 thread, join us won't you? ***

I know!! I got the 2014 WDW calendar for Christmas, so this morning I went through and added all the important dates for the year. It was so fun to be able to mark our ADR day, our FP+ day, and the dates we're going!!

Midori has been out of school since December 19th and don't have to start back until next Tuesday.. WOW!! what a nice long vacation..

We have been watching our past Disney trip videos and You Tube videos during her break. We are getting excited and also Lucy and her Mom wants to go back with us again this year.

They have asked if we could cut back on the lodging and drive :drive:to Orlando again this year so they could go.

SO!!! with that being said............... DD and I are trying to figure out what to do... Midori and Lucy had a super time last year and would really like them to go together again...

:welcome: to our group! We are sooooo happy to have you along for the ride! I will add you to the front page so that you are an official card carrying member! :lmao: When you get all your travel/touring plans and ADR's done let us know and I will add them to posts #577 and #579 as well.

Thank you I'm so excited!! We have been in May, June and October but not July. I will let you know about the adr's as soon as I get them done. Seems like there is so much to plan now adr's fp+ wristbands and so on. I kind of feel like everthing is new again!:thumbsup2

here is what ours looks like now: Hopefully I can get what we want for ADR'S

15TH: AK
16TH: MK
17TH:off day, Dinner at Park Fare
18TH: HS
19TH: off day
20TH: EPCOT
21ST: off day
22nd: MK again this time I hope to have 8:05 ressies for CP

We're at AoA in a LM room until the 7th! We were going to do a Cars suite but I kept thinking about everything we could do with the difference in cost with a LM room so we switched. Is it weird I'm excited to sing Part of Your World in that shower?

Wish we could have stayed in a suite but I would rather stay in a LM room and get to stay for a longer visit. AOA will be new for us looking forward to a new place. We been to Por 3x, Pofq, Pop and Cbr. But everytime we go we add another day on! So it looks like value resorts for us from now on. Which is fine for us. We look at it like pretty much all we are doing in the room is sleeping. So as long as it has beds we are good:thumbsup2. My little girl is so excited to be staying in the little mermaid room. I'm sure she will be singing in the shower!!

Wow! I know they had a fantastic time last year, but I also know that you prefer flying and would like to stay longer. Is there a possibility that they would stay longer if the hotel were cheaper per night? Maybe you guys could stay at a moderate instead? Don't know. :confused3. That would be a hard decision.

Your right - we cut our trip by 3 days last year. Midori and I have stayed at CB and POFQ before and enjoyed both. It's and option...We switched from BC to AKL last year.

Really wanted to stay at BC this year and I have already made reservations with a deposit. Oh well - I can always transfer the deposit to another reservation when its time.

Could stay at AKL and I could pay the different like I did last year. BUT :drive:--- OMG, not again......:faint:

No problem.

I have a question for you.... I see that you have stayed at POR several times. The last time we stayed there, it was still Dixie Landing so it's been a while. We will be driving for the first time in years to save money and we will have a car with us, but is there a location you would recommend? We are just thinking standard view so won't be doing any preferred but still want a decent room location. Any suggestions?

We stayed at POR on our last trip. If you want a room in the Alligator Bayou section then ask for building 16 or 17. Building 16 will be the closest standard room to the food and South bus stop. The closest mansion with standard rooms would be the Magnolia building. Having a standard room in the mansions you will be closer to a bus stop than in building 16 but the walk to the food might be a little longer. The East bus stop is right across from the parking lot for the Magnolia building. The South bus stop is to the left side of the parking lot for the main building. Both Building 16 and 17 and the Magnolia building have quiet pools next to them. The main swimming pool on Ol' Man Island is closer to the Magnolia building but it's just a little further than the food court from either building 16 or 17.

There is a great website for the Port Orleans resorts with lots of great information. It is www.portorleans.org/. There is a map of the resort with all of the locations for the buildings and bus stops. If you click on the buildings on the map you can see which rooms are standard/preferred/pool/garden/river/king and where they are located in the building. There is also a Port Orleans Riverside Q&A thread under the Disney Resorts section with lots of great information and helpful people. The first page has lots of information about the resort. The website and thread are maintained be the same person. Andre has done a great job with all of the information and details on the website. He also posts the resort activity schedule each month. I received lots of great information for our previous trip from these two places.

The themeing is very different in the two sections. Take a look at the pictures on the website and see which appeals to you and your family. I prefer the look of the rooms in the mansions but others prefer the rooms in Alligator Bayou. Then based on the themes in the rooms and locations to the food and bus stops you can decide which would be better for your family.

We wanted to stay at POR again for our July trip but we will be at POFQ instead. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Michele

Thanks for the information. Yes. I am familiar with the website and with andre's thread. Have visited vey often since we decided to stay there. Was just looking for personal experiences from others. I guess I just like validation from multiple sources. :goodvibes. I like to uber plan so the more information, the better. I honestly don't mind AB vs. mansion, just wanted a decent location without paying for the upgrade. Was thinking of requesting building 16 in AB so glad you thought that was a good choice as well. We will have our car and don't think we will buses that much this time so being close to the food/main building is probably the best especially with our kids. Thanks for your help. :thumbsup2

We have experienced with a lot of views. The standard views will work for you since you will be nearer to parking lots hence closer to the car. We have always requested the mansion area. They always seemed closer to the main building too. There are now preferred views now that are mostly at the Bayou buildings.

We also like being on the first floor since it's easier for some members of our party.

I don't know if I'm answering your questions. Do you have any other questions? I'd be happy to answer ;)

Yes, I've had a nice long break too. I'm a teacher, and we got off on Dec 20 and go back on Monday :) It's been so lovely! I'm now officially addicted to the show Hawai'i Life on HGTV and have been obsessing over staying at Aulani :goodvibes

How far of a drive is that for you? We always drive because I HATE flying, so to me it's not a "legitimate" way to spend my Disney money :rotfl2: However, it's only a 6.5-7 hour drive for us, so that makes a big difference. If you're trying to cut back on lodging, have you stayed at POR? We stayed this past summer in the new Royal Rooms and they are FANTASTIC!!! I am a self-admitted deluxe snob, and I really enjoyed POR!

Really wanted to stay at BC this year and I have already made reservations with a deposit.

It looks like we are overlapping our stays at BC! WE'll be there from July 15 - 23! If you stay there, we could always try to meet up at SAB! :-)

Me Too !!! That show is really neat..... WOW!! The prices!!

It's a 21 hour drive if we stop for a 4 hour nap or 17 hours if we drive straight through stopping for gas, food and changing drivers.

No, never have stayed there before.. we have visited POR to eat and walk around. It can be an option..:thumbsup2

My kids got a long break as well.

We only drive from DFW to Orlando. We stop in the Pensacola area on the first night. We tend to hit it around 9-10 PM. It's another 6 hours or so to Orlando, depending on how often you stop. We tend to grab drive thru and eat on the road.

We like the drive but I've always been a road trip person. In Pensacola we go to the Museum of Naval Aviation. And this year we're going straight from there to Titusville for a night and doing KSC before we get to WDW.

here is what ours looks like now: Hopefully I can get what we want for ADR'S

I know how you feel. Going back to driving is so hard a concept to me but the money saved for our house down payment is well worth it in the end. Ours is only a 14 hour drive so not as bad, but I still know how you feel after flying which is soooo fast for us.

We are trying POR this year too. After doing deluxes for the past 10 trips this is an adjustment, but my last three nights at AKL will hopefully give me my fill...you know I love that place. Good luck with your decision. I am sure it will be a great trip no matter what.

Thanks for your thoughts.. I feel as if we have known each other for years..:rotfl2:

If you remember, you are the one that got me to try AKL and now we love it also... And of course we had the same dilemma last year about driving and cutting back on the Resort so Lucy and her mother could go with us... I ended up paying the difference at AKL they could go..

At least this year, I know what to expect..it has always been Midori and myself vacationing to Disney and last year was a really big adjustment for me to travel with others even though Midori and Lucy have been together since Kinder...

Here is our current trip touring plan.

7/20 - arrival day
7/21 - Epcot/HS
7/22 - Typhoon Lagoon
7/23 - MK
7/24 - rest day
7/25 - HS/MK
7/26 - AK/MK
7/27 - departure day

Now to finish working on our ADR's. My youngest son told me last night that he wanted to do breakfast with Lilo and Stitch again. That wasn't part of my plan for this year. I guess I will have to try and add it.
