**The Official January 2012 WDW Thread**

Somebody posted this earlier in the week, and I have been trying to work on our ADR's. We don't really plan our park days, because we love to hop, but we are doing the Deluxe DDP this time and I needed to maximize use of it. I am finding that very difficult.

wasn't sure so that I'd post it anyways :thumbsup2...I can imagine it could be tough to pick 2 TS a day...have you thought about some sig places or dinner shows? we did HDDR in Nov and we loved it :goodvibes

Fantasmic seems to be dark every night of our trip, guess that is a sing I don't need to see it again. We have only seen it once and that was in Dec 2006, we have never been able to make it to see it again.

Suzanne

yes it seems the whole middle of the month...yes we have only seen it once too

Hey, guys!

I just read the entire thread -- saw people coming and going for January...saw park hours posted and need to check these out. Will pack for cool weather in mornings and evenings and short-sleeves (w/long sleeve layers) during day. Also bring coats, hats, gloves, etc if predicted. This time I won't pack 3 weeks ahead of time. We'll really need to wait to see the weather forecast.

OK I so know that full clothing ensemble required for the unpredictable weather...but not packing 3-4 weeks in advance that goes against every bone in mu OCD Disney body :rotfl:

Anyway, we are leaving VA on Jan 19 via the Autotrain (arrive WDW Jan 20th) until Jan 28th via Autotrain. We were hoping to stay at BLT on points but can't get all our days. Still deciding whether to wait-list or just choose another resort. Leaning towards OKW since we haven't done that one before and it's a lot less points.

My crew is Me, DH, DD6 and DD2.

I'd stay on waitlist if you can and book another for JIC...one thought on OKW may not be a huge thing for your fam of 4, but I was doing some heavy DVC villa researching for the next fam trip in summer '13 and though about OKW because of the point thing too...but I just don't like the layout or look of the interior frankly...plus it's just HUGE...feels to big...we use the Dis transpo only so if you do that route, you will have to consider needing your vehicle the whole time...

OH and PS leaning toward MK on our last 20th...so you better pick that for your arrival day ;)

Splash is my favorite, so I'm crossing my fingers its open.

not positive but I believe it is generally closed for rehab in Jan it was when i was there this past Jan toward end of month....

Yeah, I think it usually is, but I've heard rumors it won't be and that BTMRR will be down instead.
But if they end up being open towards the beginning of the month, and close down the second week, that would make my decision a lot easier.
But I'm worried they won't release the refurb schedule for a couple months. And I want to book flights as soon as I find a good price. I guess I'll just have to take my chances.

Well...we're currently booked for Jan 5-12 at Pop. But we're for sure changing to All Star Sports.
We're taking the IL's for their first trip since the early 80's.
and I'm thinking of changing our dates to Jan 10-17 (which is over mlk weekend, but with as busy as everyone is saying its going to be over Jan 6-8 w/ marathon and schools not being back in session yet, i think i'd rather go over mlk weekend. Am I right?? I'm open to opinions and advice).
DH is also in the national guard, and I need to make sure his drill dates don't coincide with either of those weekends.
Also, I hope they put out the refurb schedule, so hopefully we can work around any closures? Splash is my favorite, so I'm crossing my fingers its open.

We had room only res at AS Sports until 2012 rates released, when I called to change to package I was told entire resort was booked. Had to wait for my res to be canceled before she could even book package! Said sporting events going on, our dates are 1/14-1/21, you may want to change to AS Sports soon!

 on BTMRR being down possibly...that is one of my fav rides...

yes I'd tend to agree the refurb schedule probably won't be posted till much closer in unless it's a long period out...have to just wait and see. Yeah I wouldn't book dates around a possible refurb, you never know they can change things up last minute...

Hopping on board!

Officially set as of an hour ago for a 25-29 vaca with the whole fam! Everyone is super excited... staying at BLT.

It is sooo not sad! I love it! I have been planning too. We are there Jan 1-8th and can't wait for July 5th (180 day mark). I want to also join Touring Plans but I'm not convinced we need them. Any thoughts?

Flights going home come out tomorrow on JB. Add that to the park hoppers I got before the prices went up and everything is paid for! My savings account is crying it's eyes out :sad1: but it will all be worth it come January!!

We have never used any type of touring plans and have been fine. I certainly don't think you need them in January. We have even goen Christmas week and didn't use them.

Now, I do have a basic plan in mind, based on dining reservations and who has EMH, but beyond that, no plans. I will be able to figure more out once July 11th gets here, that is my 180 day mark and I have a few ADR's that I really want, but it doesn't really matter what evening I have them on, except for Hoop de Doo and we want to do that our first evening.

Hi all! I have been horribly about updating the who is going when page! I promise to set aside some time this week to fix it this week.

I am waiting to see what happens with the fantasmic schedule- if they change it around then I have to rework my park days. We have gone twice in the past two years and havent been able to see the show, so this time its a big priority!

Hi all!

I'm pretty sure I can join you for January 2012 planning as my husband gave the go-ahead this weekend. That may change depending on if our friends can go with us or not but I might as well start planning, right?

Anyways, I'm struggling with dates. Can you guys give me the pros and cons of the dates listed below?

January 7-12, 2012:
January 14-19, 2012:
January 21-26, 2012:

Also, my daughter will be 4.5 at the time of our next trip (2012). Since we just went this year (2011) and if we go again in 2012, we won't go for quite a while, probably around 3 years (so she would be around 8 years old). So would you take your husband up on this trip in 2012 (he was HARD to convince and didn't think he wanted to go back for years) or would you wait another year until 2013 when daughter will be 5.5 and Fantasyland should be mostly completed?

Decisions, decisions!

I would HATE HATE HATE to wait (oooo, that rhymed!), but, considering the new FL....that's what I would probably do if I were you. It's sad that your hubby doesn't want to go all the time, like mine! We became DVC members!
If you do go, remember that the marathon is going on the weeked of the 7-8th (altho i don;t really think it's much of a problem, more of road problems I hear). then there's the busy President's day holiday.

whatever you choose...have fun!!!

Ooops...I think it's MLK day...sorry....i'm Canadian!

LMAO!

Maggie- I am sure you posted but where are you staying? What DVC prop did you buy into?

Hi....we bought into BLT....but have yet to stay there! We had to switch to include my MIL so no one bed were available :( So now we're back at AKV, which id where we were last yr....loved it too!

Hi, just a thought about OKW....we had booked there (because of the lower points value too) but learned that there aren't elevators in alot of the buildings and the buildings are very spread out. I don't know if this will be a problem for your family but it was for ours because we have children with disabilities. We decided to go back to AKV again...loved it there last year but wanted to try a different resort this time.
Something to think about anyway :)

Yeah, I did request either 1st floor or elevator building. I know at night it'll be us carrying our kids up the steps otherwise.

We just stayed at AKV-Kidani and absolutely loved it!! We had a savannah room and that was marvelous. We thought about going back but don't have enough points for a savannah room and since we just did AKV, we thought we'd try something different.

Well, we booked our OKW stay yesterday. Jerry and I are leery about the wait list...we needed 4 nights out of our 8 night stay. We just don't want to have to move, if we don't get all our nights...let alone have to move more than once in 8 days.

But we are excited to try OKW. This will be our sort-of last resort we haven't tried on WDW property. (We did stay at WL previously...just not the DVC rooms, so we'll need to try them too but the rooms are a lot smaller I heard so we'll wait until we don't need stroller/diapers).

I like that the rooms are huge...saw pics on All Ears. I admit it does look like a condo in "anyplace, USA" but that's ok.

We always use our own SUV now that we are taking the Autotrain. DH and I are very bad about waiting for busses. I much rather be walking to my SUV than standing waiting for a bus.

When we stayed at BLT, we used ME and didn't rent a car. It was certainaly do-able but standing with a sleeping child, diaper bags, souvenirs and stroller while on the bus is not a thing I want to do again.

We opt to just walk to wherever we are parked when the girls fall asleep in the stroller...easier for us than dealing with the bus.

Oh, you are going to be in WDW on the 20th??? Right now we have that as our down day (arrival day). How long will you be around? I'd love to meet up with you all.

I want to also join Touring Plans but I'm not convinced we need them. Any thoughts?

I am a touring plans fan but haven't actually used their suggested touring plans persay...but as reference. I really appreciate the crowd calendar and crowd tracker...the thing I love the most is the LINES App...that is the best :thumbsup2 I was there w/ friends this yr jan and we did reference the app multiple times :goodvibes not as many say as I did during T-giving week last yr w/ my family but still a great tool!

I'd tend to agree w/ MaggieMollyMom and say if you only have "one" trip to work w/ to tide you over for 3+ yrs then i would hold out till the refurb was fully done...

good luck w/ any decision you make

no I hear ya...Matt and vow to never to a split again :headache:

no sadly we'll be back in the dreary Chicago winter...though if I could add another night and fares aren't bad to fly home on Friday vs Thurs...you never know...

Marshay- OKW is BEAUTIFUL! We stayed there in February and loved everything about it! We were very lucky to get the elevator building, 3rd floor 2 bedroom villa with amazing views of Epcot fireworks. I have tons of resort pics if you want to see any! Do you have kids? Ours loved the pool area, and all the fun games they played. The community hall is really cute! Rooms are HUGE! We are headed to AKV January 21st so maybe we can all plan a dis meet up!!!
