The Official Friday Night Lights thread

Friday Night Lights is my new favorite show. The acting is pretty good, but the storylines are so realistic and well done. I grew up in Southern Arkansas and my husband grew up in Texas. It's amazing how many people we knew who are just like those characters. My favorite part of the show is the husband-wife dynamic between Coach Taylor and his wife.

We've been watching it, too. I didn't think it would be my kind of show, but my husband started watching it and now I'm kind of addicted, too.

I think it's a really compelling show-- well acted too. I also like the dynamic between the coach and his wife. I like Matt Saracen a lot, too!

I hope it gets renewed for another season.

I love Matt and Julie together. And at first, I hated for Julie and Tyra to become friends, but by the end of the show, I thought Tyra was actually good for Julie!

I love FNL! I started watching just because of Kyle Chandler. I really didn't think I would like it because I am not a football fan and I am not a fan of the type of camera work they do. However I ended up hooked. I agree that the relationship between Coach Taylor and his wife is the strongest dynamic of the show.

I think they'll get back together, but maybe not right away. I'd like to see more of her new friendship with Tyra. Those scenes with Matt's Grandmother, Tyra, and Julie were so sweet!

Ahhhh, I missed tonights. Anyone be sweet enough to give me a brief synopsis??? Pretty please??

I saw the last 20 minutes. From when they were playing the game, and then it got called off because of the fighting.
I heard it was supposed to be about the one coach being racist? What happened there?

One of the coaches ( I can't quite recall his name, Mack maybe? ) made some racial remarks last week; I believe he said the reason the QB was white was because they are generally smarter whereas the Running Backs are African American because they could run fast. Last week, the members of the football squad that were African American walked out on practice and refused to come back unless the coach apologized or was fired. This week, he was shown his termination papers but in the end, he was not fired and the African American players came back and played in the game (after talking to their families and friends). During the game, Smash (the running back) ran the ball back for a touchdown and a player on the opposing team said a racial slur and a huge fight broke out. The game was called because the environment turned violent and people in the stands were throwing things onto the field. On the way back to the school, the bus was pulled over by police and Kyle Chandler ( I can't think of his name on the show LOL) and the coach that made the racial remark got off the bus; they were told that there was someone who wanted to press charges against Smash for Assault and the coach who made the racial remark stood up for him and told the police to either leave or go get a warrant because they weren't getting on the bus to get Smash.

I think that's it! I looooove this show

Tonight was an especially good episode IMO. My favorite dialogue was when coach Taylor went to his wife's office and interupted her counseling session with a student and demanded that it was an urgent matter. What I got such a kick out of was how he asked to speak with her "the Counselor", then "the wife" and then asked if there was anyone else and she said "your friend". THEN, after he had heard her three points of view as he was walking out the door he said "the three of you scare me!" I thought that seen was really well done.

The family scenes of Coach Taylor, his wife, and/or Julie are so realistic. Does anyone feel like what happened with the police and the school bus would happen in your area? I can see that happening in some parts of Arkansas, and it makes me really sad!

That was the best part of the show last night. Well, that and how the asst. coach stood up for smash and said he made a mistake just like he had done.

I'm so excited we have a fNL thread. Dh and I LOVE this show. I was the one who got him hooked on it. It's so realistic. Excellent Show!

It would just absolutely me up if Tyra and Landry did get together. Landry is such a minor character on the show and he ends up stealing almost every scene he is in.

The writing on this show is absulutely brilliant. Last week when Coach Eric started chasing his daughter down the hall when he heard that she was Quarterbacking Powder Puff.
