The *Official* February 2011 Thread - Happy Dance Time...The Park Hours Are Out!

I am new to DISboards and have a few questions... I have reservations for Carribean Beach Resort for Feb. 2nd thru 8th. It will be the first time I am not staying in a Value resort and I'm nervous that maybe I didn't pick the right resort (how can there be a wrong one in WDW, right?) Would love to hear some feedback on the resort and what the weather may be like this time of year. Not sure if I should just pack pants or throw some capri's in the suitcase too. I'm going with my 68 year old mom and 16 year old son. I'm really looking forward to spending some quality time with them in Disney. I have also tried to do some planning as to what parks to go to on what day. Any advice with that? Thanks so much!

Sort of OT, but this bunch seems so nice and knowledgeable so thought I'd ask here. Our flight home leaves at 6:30 PM. We will have a rental car. Wondering what time you would leave WDW for the airport. I like to push it as long as possible, but DH is always a nervous nelly and tries to get me to leave way too early. So thought I'd ask here what people do.

I'm afraid I can't answer your question as I've never had a car at WDW, but I just wanted to tell you that I don't think anything would be considered "OT" here... We're all friends here, all excited about being at WDW next month (!!!), and if we don't ramble about anything and everything to each other, we will get run out of town by friends, family, and co-workers. :rotfl:

You Canadian and northern types will get a kick out of this... Amazingly, we are under a hard freeze warning tonight! Here!! Everyone is freaking out, because of course we're not used to serious cold (and yeah, I know, the 20's would be a heat wave to a lot of you :thumbsup2 ) and everyone has wrapped their pipes and their plants like the second ice age is coming. :rolleyes1

Heck, we don't really even own "winter clothes"... Some long sleeves, some hoodies, that's about it. But it's like 8 billion degrees here for 10 months out of the year, so cold weather wear is never at the top of our minds, lol. But tonight, I'm glad I have a fireplace! Usually I have to crank the A/C down to simulate winter so I can get some use out of it. :thumbsup2

Hi Giina

You are right. That did make me laugh.

This weekend they are predicting -35 and with wind-chill possibly -45 degree C and lots of snow

I am heading out to Target in a few to get Tshirts and Bleach Pens - tomorrow we are expecting 10-16 inches of snow, so I am pretty sure it will be a snow day! I thought what better way to spend it than making MICKEY shirts! I also sent a request for A Bug's Life for Netflix, so that should be here tomorrow! It will be a disney day!

Allison - SO HAPPY MICKEY MAIL ARRIVED! It just makes it so real!

Gina - Great spreadsheets!

Looks like we will be at the same place on 2/3 and 2/4....maybe we could "run" into each other :cool1:

Oh Gina, that's awesome - really made me laugh! And to think I'm worried about the weather being warm when we hit DW - my weather is pretty much exactly what Ron's is - tonnes of snow and exposed-skin-will-freeze-in-30-seconds temperatures and wind chill. Well, I'll be swimming in DW no matter what! I swear!

Oh and on the winter clothing? I own 7 pairs of gloves, 5 scarves, 2 winter jackets, 2 pairs of winter boots, and thermal underwear! Hoodies here are for September! :rotfl:

My hubby works outside in the cold in western pa... so I am never allowed to comment on how cold it is....... 24 more days till some fl sunshine

i would say leave 3 hours before your flight, just to be safe. Of course I'm MUCH more concerned about not missing my flight DOWN then my flight home, lol.

Snow Day today!!! Reallllyyyy makes me want some warm Disney weather!!! *fingers crossed* :worship: bowing to the Florida sun gods!

I hear you! :rotfl::lmao: I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a warm (not even super hot) vacation. I'll be happy with 62, I'd LOVE 70! But no more than 80! Pretty please Mother Nature??

Any ideas to keep kids entertained during line-ups? I will have stickers, crayons, small toys (dress up princess, car), and snacks. My DD has the attention span of a fly and I can't keep her busy with the same activity for very long, maybe 10 minutes if I'm lucky! I also don't want my bag to be weighed down with a million toys.

I havent stayed in Caribbean Beach since early 2000's, but I enjoyed the resort. I'm a Pop lover, but CB is a little more layed back. They have the steel drums and calypso music playing throughout the resort. Some rooms can be far from the foodcourt/main pool area so I would take a look at the map of the resort and maybe request a room in one of those buildings. I think the Martinique building is right there. ( if you need me to post a map, let me know and I will ) I know they have some new updated theme rooms like Finding Nemo and POTC themed rooms. The pool has been updated recently as well. It's pretty much the same type of rooms as the values. Hope that helps!

.

that's exactly what I'm hoping for. We actually had a "warm" day a few weeks ago -- it got up to almost 60 and was sunny. It was actually pretty nice. Although if the sun goes in then it gets a little brrrrrrrr. 65 - 75 and SUNNY is perfect for me.

another day closer and more questions then ever.

We are planning on going to MK on Sunday Feb 13 but not getting into the park until 11:00. Between our 1:00 lunch at the Crystal Palace and the parades and shows we will not be getting off Main Street until after 3:00 ish. We are planning on taking advantage of the extended hours, here is my question: Which land should we go to first? and secondly do you think the Cheerleaders will affect the crowd during extended hours? and if so which land do you think they "take over"

Oooooh Count me in! February 11th - 17th @ CBR!

IM4dsny: I am a die hard CBR fan. I've been with my parents many times as a kid, my Jr class in HS once and now with my boyfriend as an adult. There is more walking at CBR for sure but it's so beautiful how could you even care about that? I enjoy walking around the lake and over the Cay. It's so gorgeous. For me that tropical atmosphere is important to really get me out of the winter doldrums and CBR acheives that with the steel drums and the sand and palms and pastel colors. It soothes me into vacation time before I even get to the parks. Have a great time. I know I will!

I am BEYOND excited right now! I have been trying for weeks and weeks to get us into Le Cellier and I FINALLY scored a late lunch for the 4 of us! Le Cellier is definitely one of my top faves and I can't wait to bring my mom there for the first time!!! :) :) :)

That's great!! I gave up on Le Cellier. I tried every day for over a month with no luck. But I'm still happy with Teppan Edo!!

(29 days) :yay:

boy take a night off the boards and it grows by like 3 pages!

Thanks for the info on Steves website! I knew there had to be shows those days! :rotfl:

Gina - loved your comments on the weather. I dont do snow at all (thats why I live in socal). However that does have its downfall. When it hits in the low 60's here, I am all bundled up. My sister laughed at me while she was down here for the holidays, as she is from N. Idaho.

31 days!

post script: i hemmed and hawed over pre-ordering the photopass. I finally did it. Last trip, there is *1* picture of DH and I together (with Lotso), out of the 200+ pictures DH took. I dont want that to happen again. So i figured this was the best way to do it. *keeps fingers crossed* I am going to make him stop at every photo CM i see.

Looks like we will be at the same place on 2/3 and 2/4....maybe we could "run" into each other :cool1:

EXCELLENT! I will "keep and eye out for you"
I will be the one in a wheelchair/scooter *wipes tear* I am going to to try to make a lime green mickey head with my Disboard name on it so that will be either on my backpack or my wheelchair...
Our kids are about the same age! Maybe we will be in line together!!!

Here are our plans so far:

2/26 arrive at POFQ around 12:30pm (we're flying in on 2/24 but visiting relatives in Jacksonville area first 2 days), check in (I plan on doing online checkin), and head over to MK. Dinner reservations at Chef Mickey's 5:40pm in celebration of DS 4th birthday which is on this day!! Return to MK for Wishes and then back to hotel.

2/27 get up and head to EP, breakfast at Akershus 9:15am, dinner at Biergarten at 6:00pm. Not sure if we'll make it to illuminations, may go back to the hotel in the afternoon and return for dinner so we can stay later.

2/28 Breakfast at hotel, AK for the morning (hopefully making it to EMH in the AM), Rainforest Cafe at 12:30. Afternoon swim if weather cooperates, MK in the evening--CS meal at either Pinnochios (kids love this one) or Columbia Harbor House (I've been wanting to try this one).

3/1 Breakfast at hotel, DHS for rope drop, my kids are too small for the "big" rides here, so hopefully we'll get FP for TSM and see a few of the shows. CS lunch here--any suggestions?? and then back to hotel for rest/swim in afternoon. Dinner at Tutto Italia at 6:40pm.

3/2 MK early for 8:10 Crystal Palace breakfast, hit things we've missed or want to do again, back to hotel to get our ride to airport for 3:30pm flight home.

It's a short (er) trip, but we've been before and we'll come back again. We know we won't see/do everything we want to, we just try to take our cues from the kids and tour at our own pace. Other than Saturday, our check in day, most days look pretty good crowd wise per the crowd calendar. Hopefully that works out! We've never been this time of year before, so it will be new to us. And anything will be warmer in February than up here in Maine!

Comments or Suggestions? Thanks and we're so excited!!

finally, someone who will be there same time as me! :cool1:

For HS what about Sci-Fi Diner? That looks cool although I read the food is not great. But I'm all about what's fun, not what tastes good, lol. I'm actually reading the chapter of Unoffical Guide on CS restaurants now and writing down the ones that sound good to me. I'll have to see what they say about HS

ETA: Sorry, after I posted I realized Sci-Fi Diner is FS, not Counter Service. According to the UG the following are Good:

Yorkshire County Fish Shop: fish & chips
ABC Commissary: Burgers, nuggets, wraps, etc.
Starring Rolls Cafe: Sandwiches & salads
Studio catering: Pulled pork, chicken, hot dogs, wraps, salads
Toluca Legs: Turkey legs & hot dogs

Everything else was rated "Fair"
