The Official February 2010 Car Rental Thread?

I checked rates one more time today and found on the AAA member site I could get a Hertz, midsize car (Fusion or similar) for $238 all in. Hertz is offsite at MCO, but the difference for a rental from 2/10 to 2/17 is about $100 cheaper than Alamo which was the cheapest previously although the cheapest car class for Alamo was the CUV class with a Dodge Journey or similar for $337 all in.

You must be entering something wrong because I get a total of $273.13 after coupon for $25.00 is applied at checkout with pickup in MCO and drop off in TPA. Make sure you enter BCD Number x474200 and Coupon MUWZ023.

Rate Code: 2C Rate Rules: Minimum 1 Day(s) and 1 Hours(s) rental
Base Rate: $225.00
Total Tax / Surcharges: $73.13

(Includes energy recovery fee of $3.29)

Estimated Total: $298.13

OK so I see this is thru Costco and I am a member but it references 2C - is this a corporate only rate? will I need anything other than making the reservation and my Costco membership card(AMEX) when I go to pick up?
Thanks for all of this ........obviously a newbie.

I am looking for a minivan for the week of 2/5 - 2/13. The cheapest I can find for the rental is $400.

I do have a dollar rental for a lock low n go for $200.00.

Waiting for better deals. :goodvibes

I'm going Feb 24 - Mar 5 and can not find any good deals at all!!! I know rates are higher than in years past but this is crazy. Min $600 I'm finding!!! (need a minivan!)

Dollar and Thrifty have a minivan special for $44.99/day, use the promo code 2COM2 and the total is $515.84. Still not great but better.

My Feb 27th reservation with National for a midsize car, Executive Status, just went down to $193.68, from $231.62 for a 7 day rental. I know we can go lower with Alamo, but my executive status expires on 2/28 and I want to experience the Executive Aisle one more time. I used 6100120 (AARP) and internet coupon ND1881JDK ($40).

ok I just booked with Dollar for 2/20 to 2/27 for a minivan for $404.17 for the week!

the Promo Code: 2COM2

I just wanted to share my experience with National. We rented a mini-van back in April for $199. With a coupon the total with taxes and fees came to $200. Lo and behold Midwest changed our flight times and I needed to modify my reservation. The cost skyrocketed and when I called they told me they couldn't change it back to $199 but to keep checking the ressie. Well we leave Sat and I tried to modify and this time it was $1,999! DH immediately called and they modified our times and we are back to $200. She said it would be fine without changing the time but I kept shaking my head at him and said we had to have the times adjusted on our reservation. From reading the disboards, I've learned how prices are invalid when times change. So long story short, I'm thrilled with National right now! The modified reservation with the correct price just showed up in our email.

Just got back from 8 days in Orlando. We had to leave a day early on the 9th due to flight cancellations in the northeast. I went to the National website and got a great deal on 10 hours notice on a new reservation and cancelled our old one. I tried to just update the old one, but the prices were outrageous with the one day change. Our 7 day $337 all-in CUV (Dodge Journey or similar) became a $294 all-in 8 day rental in the standard class (Malibu or similar - took an HHR off the Emerald Aisle when we arrived). I only used the one week discount code on the website - nothing else special about what I put in.

Just as an FYI - although WDW is packed this week, the airport overflow lot next to the garage side A and the overflow lot near the MK car care center were packed with minivans waiting to be rented. Either the ridiculously high prices asked or a glut of new minivans ready to go may be the reasoning, but I would bet that great minivan deals are forthcoming as a parked rental car gathers no greenbacks.

Best of luck all!!
