The Official Expedition Everest 2013 Thread

I don't know if this has been asked. Has anyone done EEC as a team but not finish as a team? I'm much slower than my partner and don't want to hold them back (we are a team for other races all the time). I know the instructions say you have to finish together...but are they strict about this?

I've been wondering the same thing as well! I thought I read somewhere that you can finish the 5k at different times but need to do the scavenger hunt together, but I can't find where I saw it now ...

Also, was there any sample clues posted for this year? I also thought I read somewhere that runDisney will send out a sample before the race so you know what to expect. Then again, I might be going crazy because I can't find where I'm getting information from! ;)

Thanks again everyone!

I run as an individual so I don't know about the team stuff.

In the past there have been sample clues sent out in the pre-race emails from Disney. I don't think I've seen one yet for this year though. So far I think I've only gotten one email from Disney and I'm pretty sure it didn't have a clue. I didn't know about the waivers and final race instructions being posted until I read it here.

No clue email this year...feels like EEC got swept under the rug with all the Dopey coverage... :-(

Dh read in a different forum that people were receiving 'Mickey Nail' with the new course map, waivers, and clues. We only received I've email back in Feb or March reminding us to book our lodging. When I emailed RunDisney they said I could find the waiver online. It appears that we're not the only ones being forgotten. Hoping to get something soon!

Btw- were individual entries not a team.

RunDisney doesn't send waivers. Perhaps they booked through a travel partner and that particular agency prints off waivers and such for their clients?:confused3

Waivers and the final race instructions (including the new map) are available on the runDisney site.

I am surprised that they haven't sent out a 'clue' email though to give first time participants a sample of what the clues will be like.

I too am an individual entrant running with a few different teams.

I can't believe I haven't found this thread until now! My husband and I are running this together as our first 5K and are really excited :) We've been doing Couch to 5K since February and are on Week 9 now! My unofficial goal is to run the race portion in under 30 minutes but I'm going to be proud just to run a complete race. Can't wait!

I'm getting freaked out reading these threads, please help!

My family and I are registered for the EE run. We've done two Disney 5ks and DH and I ran the ToT 10-miler in 2012. We have not run the EE.

Does the running course include the obstacles, or is that part of the scavenger hunt? Do we have 16 minutes/mile to complete the run portion only, or does that time include the hunt?

Are the clues impossible or hard? I'm wondering since there seems to be some concern runDisney hasn't sent clues through email.

When do you get your medal, at the end of the run or the hunt?

Thanks!

From my understanding:

The obstacles are just part of the 5k part... not in the additional scavenger hunt.

I think the pace setting is more for the 5k... I wouldn't worry so much about the scavenger hunt... it's going to take people time to figure out clues, etc.

The clues from previous years don't seem too hard... some had to do with fitness terms and things... the staff will be more than helpful if you need it.

You get the medal after the 5k and hunt are both over....

Anyone want to verify.... If I am wrong... please correct me!

Less than two weeks until we're back at Disney for this race. I am so excited. My 13 year old son is running on a team with me so I hope I can restrain my competitive spirit and just have fun with him. I know he'll be a big help on the clue solving part.

I just found out that Raw Threads will have some presence at the Expedition Everest "Base Camp and Bazaar". I'm not sure if they will have a full blown booth with lots of merchandise or if it will just be pre-ordered item pickup, but it's more than I was expecting. So maybe the Expo will be bigger than I've heard it was in the past. I guess it used to just be packet pickup without any vendors?

I. LOVE. RAW THREADS. You just made my day. I've been hearing rumors about the disney new balance shoes too.

So excited for the race, and for a Disney visit! I am in need of a Disney fix. I hope they do have some kind of an expo. Even if it's small. I remember way back when packet pickup for one of the Disney races was inside one of the huge dance clubs on Pleasure Island. It was pretty much a folding table and a few Disney cast members handing out race bibs and plastic bags. Non-magical!

A week and a half til I fly down... :)

Thanks, Carissa! I'm glad to know the staff will help us if needed.

I'm dealing with another issue and glad I checked this board and read about the waivers. RunDisney has my waiver under DH's name. DH has two EE runDisney waivers, two different bib numbers, same gender and age. I'm calling them tomorrow to get it fixed and hope I'm able to print my waiver before package pick up. I also hope my name is on the bib, not DH's....cause it's not even close to a feminine name and I'm wearing a girly costume.

Between my son's severe allergies and me having a calf injury we haven't any real training runs for this race. We're still super excited for it. I'm hoping the rumors of vendors at the expo are true.

I'm imagining a Princess Steve.

LOL, close.

I gotta say, I just called runDisney and the outgoing VM message for the "Registration" prompt was not reassuring. She sounded like she was sleeping.

Worst case, people think my parents wanted a boy when they named me.

I haven't been training either but I'm so psyched!!!! I'm mainly interested in the end party, have to save my energy for that.

They should be able to get a waiver changed. Highly doubtful about changing the name on the bib though. They send the print order about 45-60 days before the race.

The obstacles are only in the 5K race portion of the course. As soon as you cross the finish line for the 5K, the scavenger hunt begins (as does a separate time). Once you finish the scavenger hunt, you are awarded your medal and get your goodies.

Your final race results will have a 5K time, Scavenger Hunt time and Total time.

Thanks! How long do we have to finish the scavenger hunt?

Not entirely sure. I know they want the course clear at some point. I think they will politely help you with your clues if you are at that point, even if you don't ask for assistance.

Just got email confirmation from RunDisney that the special edition New Balance shoes WILL BE AVAILABLE at the EEC package pick up!

Just remember these are stability shoes, if you're going to use them for running I would recommend going to a show store and trying on a similar NB stability shoe and see how you like them... if you're getting them to just walk around then you don't need to worry about that...I got them at the princess expo and they work great for me ( I do need stability shoes)
