The Official Expedition Everest 2013 Thread

I think no one can answer because this is the first year they are doing this. I don't remember them having this as an option last year. Sorry I can't help you any further.

First time I've heard of anything of the sort.

I have an extra After Race Party Ticket, I believe it was booked before March 21st so it is in the $50 range. If anyone is in need of one, let me know.

This is a great thread- thanks for the info from everyone! This is our first Disney race :)

I found the page to print the waivers, and I see it has the bib# listed. Is there anyway to figure out which "wave" we will be in during the actual race? We have two teams registered, and were just hoping to start at the same time. Thanks!

:)

Officially, not until the Expo.

Unofficially, we can speculate by dividing up the number of entrants into 4 or 5 waves.

Did anyone else check out the final race instructions? Looks like the course varies a little from what the course map looked like last year...can anyone who ran last year verify? Looks like more running back stage...?

I'm having issues opening it on my computer, but I looked on my phone, doesn't look that different from last year to me.

Course is definitely different--last year's out and back was up Conservation Way as opposed to behind Everest. That was my least favorite part of the course, as it was very narrow. I hope this makes it a little better. Here's a comparison:

It looks like the new course will give an interesting look at expedition everest from backstage...I'm so excited to run this with my daughter

Thanks for posting the maps side by side! I knew it had changed and was just going to search around to try to find my map from last year (and 2011 - it was the same as 2012). Now I dont' have to!

I also HATED the run out and back to Conservation Station. It was so narrow and with the tire obstacle right there, it made it more congested feeling. I hope this is better. And maybe we'll get some cool views from behind Everest!

CAN'T WAIT!!!

We must have posted at the same time! That's what I was thinking - maybe a unique view of Everest.

I am running with DS18. Our third year doing EEC together!!! :cool1:

It will also be interesting to see if the 5K portion is actually closer to 5K--last year, my watch said 2.87 miles.

I don't know if this has been asked. Has anyone done EEC as a team but not finish as a team? I'm much slower than my partner and don't want to hold them back (we are a team for other races all the time). I know the instructions say you have to finish together...but are they strict about this?

I haven't checked in since the first page but getting so excited now. It seems so real now that we have gotten mickey mail, waivers, etc. It's our first EE challenge but both my DH and myself are really excited about it. I warned him we might get hooked by the Disney running bug so don't blame me. LOL. In case I don't make it back before we leave in a few weeks, I hope everyone has a great race!

THANK YOU for posting!! I am getting so excited and so nervous. My first race ever!!

I'm a bit of a map nerd with my running, so for those interested, here's last year's course (including the scavenger hunt) based on my GPS watch data:

Expedition Everest 2012

And here's what I think this year's might be based on last year and the rough sketch we got today:

Expedition Everest 2013?

Really neat to see how far it really is. I'm a beginner, and a bigger girl, so I was wondering what the length of the race actually ends up being after the scavenger hunt as well. I was hoping it was no longer than 5 miles as I want to keep pace well enough.

Thanks for the updates on the waivers and the course maps. I'm getting so excited! And I can't wait to get back to Disney!! We're staying at the Swan this time so we'll either drive or walk over to one of the host resorts. Probably just drive since we have a car there anyways.

Having thought about these maps throughout the day, what I'm now wondering about the most is how much the 5K course will overlap with the scavenger hunt, as I'm not sure where the final finish line will be.

The race instructions say you have to have a party ticket to be a spectator at the end, so I figure it's still in the park. Last year's finish was by the restrooms near Everest, which is now part of the 5K.

We were in an early wave last year and were by no means fast, but we hit some traffic from the later waves heading back through the entrance after starting the scavenger hunt. As the clue card areas do not appear to have changed, I wonder if that will be better or worse.
