After watching all these beginning montages, I've realized I watch mostly dramas and very few comedies.

I'm the exact opposite The only drama I've watched is Game of Thrones.

It is all scripted and they may not have known what he was going to do and their bit remained.

If we blame the writers for the bad jokes--we can't blame this one on Jon and Ashton.

I also didn't think their bit was bad. Charlie never apologized about the troll comment (that I recall) until tonight.

Good point!! It seems like the writers of the Emmys don't know how to appeal to an overall group of people.

Yep, that's what I think. It was written in & then Charlie said something unexpected. Made their comments look tacky. Maybe a writer should always be standing by to make quick adjustments. The hosts can usually think on their feet & make updates if they are good comics, but the presenters usually need someone scripting it for them.
