DIS Dads The Official DisDads Prayer and Praise Thread

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Chris, hope everything works out and you get the opportunity to provide her with a loving home. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Chris, We will add you to our prayers. I hope it turns out all good!

Chris, prayers for all involved. No worries about getting booted for requesting prayer on the Praise and Prayer thread.

Thanks fellas, I'll let you know. She's only here until 8/28 and we plan on spending as much time with her as we can. Much of this should be resolved by then, hopefully sooner.

Gentlemen-
I've been wanting to tell you guys about this for a while, but was hoping to get deeper in to the process before doing so. But the situation now calls for me to call on you to pray for my family. Here's what's going on.

My family is in the process of adopting an orphan girl from Ukraine. I'll spare you the details, but after much discussion, prayer, counsel, and spending time with the girl, we are certain that God has brought her to our family. We believe God has called us to adopt her. We love her and are very confident that once we make our intentions known, she will be overjoyed and jump at the chance to have us as a family. This is all great news and should be celebrated.

But there is bad news. There is another family that insists that they should get her because they submitted the paperwork first. Although she has spent time with this family, the girl has had no connection with them. Her host family and all involved are acting as strong advocates of her being placed with us. None of this has deterred the other family. To make matters more complicated, we consider this other family to be friends of ours. They, us and the host family all are members of the same church. Our pastors have been involved for the past few days and will be counseling the other family. They've been counseling us for a while.

You may be wondering what I'm worried about. We want her, she will want us, and Ukraine's policy is that the child makes the decision (she's 14). My fear is that something could go wrong as long as this threat exists. Please pray. Specifically, that God's will would be done, that we would honor Him with our responses, and ultimately, that the girl would be ours someday soon. Sorry if this got too religious for the DIS. If I get booted I'll see you in January and on the other site.

Thanks.

Prayers for you and this girl. At least it sounds like this child's life will improve if you or this other family adopts her. And, while I can only guess how frustrating it is, at least she will be better off.

Chris, your family are in my family's prayers. While we have not adopted internationally we we have adopted 2 children. We do know what you are going through as we had a baby placed with us for 9 months only to have the birth mom at the last minute sign her rihgts over to a step brother.

Wow. That sounds painful. Speaking of painful (though not on the scale that you dealt with), there's been a development. This girl received a phone call last night from her orphanage in Ukraine telling her a) the host family was not going to adopt her, and b) there were two other families who would like to. She says she wants to stay an orphan. Shocking but sort of understandable. The orphanage is all she knows and this is scary. Pretty humbling for us- this is not what we expected. We'll just let her know that if she reconsiders, our offer stands. Thanks for the prayers and well-wishes.

Hey, thanks for being so open... and no worries on the boot thing. This is one of the great things about our boards is we can just be ourselves. Not everyone may agree with your faith, but at the same time, many of us love the opportunity to join you in prayer on your journey. I will be committing you to prayer daily. I am praying for God's will to be done, and if it turns out that this adoption doesn't happen for you, that you will find His peace and Grace to trust Him in it... that you will see His hand in the process, and that He WILL give you your desire for a child.

Thanks. Cousin, though. They are still in the hotel right now, waiting to hear from the insurance to get an apartment. They were supposed to hear something today.

Chris, my heart just sank as I read this. We are certainly going to pray for you. Shair and I know what it is like to have the emotional roller coaster of adoption! It is a hard journey with tears along the way but in the end if it is God's will the reward far outways the worry along the way. No matter which family she chooses I worry about the awkwardness of having to see each other and the young girl in the area and at church. Hang in there.....i am praying that your will is also God's will! Please keep us posted!!

Prayer request.

My oldest dd is in 5th grade. Each year, that grade goes to Washington, DC as a class. They allow 15-20 parents to go as chaperones, drawn from a lottery. If you are not selected, then even if you go, the parent is not permitted to join the child on the same hotel floor (hired security guards) or activities. As a dad, I am not allowed to chaperone my daughter or girls, so DW would be the only one who could go.

I guess I am just too overprotective, but I really don't want my 10 year old to be that far away without one of her parents. My 10 year old really wants to go. If DW gets selected to go, then everything is fine. But, if she doesn't, then what? The $400 deposit is due tomorrow, so I am putting it down and I pray it all works out.

I can understand your struggle putting your childs safety in the hands of people you do not really know well. I would be nervous about it also! Hopefully your wife get selected. I dont understand why the school will not let other parents join the trip if they provide their own accomodations and transportation. Will pray for it to all work out.

You are a Good Father Norm, I will pray that it all works out as you wish. If she needs someone while there, I'm only a hour away.

WOHOOO!!

They finally arrested someone for the murder of my mother in law's cousin!! It has taken several months (his body was found in February) and they have arrested the one guy that everyone suspected but no one had proof of. :cool1::dancer:

I've never been close enough to a situation like this to know what it's like. I've seen two acquaintances deal with murder in their families (grandchild & spouse) and the turmoil it has taken on them. Prayers continue with you and your family.

A week ago we got an e-mail saying that the girl we had gotten to know in August now wants to be adopted by us. As far as we can tell, she genuinely wants to be in our family (we feared she may be coerced or pressured in to coming). It's a long road ahead, but it looks like I'll have a teenager a lot sooner than I expected. I'll put more in the main thread, but wanted to thank those of you who read the earlier post and/or prayed. Thanks guys.

That is good news Chris. She is going to be one lucky girl to be part of your family.

Great news Chris!!

Continued prayer through the process. May it go smooth and may it build a beautiful "family" ...
