The Official DIS Oscars LIVE Watch Party Thread! The Afterparty continues. . .

Maybe it boils down to Will being desperate to impress Jada. Because she rarely seems concerned about his feelings or pride, but for whatever reason, he keeps striving to win her approval. Reportedly, WS heard that joke during rehearsal and didn’t say a word. Everyone saw him grin and laugh when Rock told the joke at the ceremony. Then he realized Jada was displeased and went into rage mode. The whole family is weird beyond words.

Was it really about the hair? Or does GI Jane mean something different in regards to Jada?
The daughter came out last year as polyamorous like her mom. They are all cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

I asked last night: Does GI Jane mean something different in regards to Jada?

Apparently it can mean something different.

I just watched an interview of Tiffany Haddish on Extra and Tiffany says verbatim, "When it was happening I was like. . . I remember when that movie came out, and that was a way to insult a woman. Her sexuality, her physique, to call a woman a homosexual basically. And she's sitting there right next to her [man.] It's kind of messed up."

Someone up-thread, insinuated that there was something wrong with those of us who brought up their open marriage.

I, for one, don't have a problem. Anything that floats someone's boat and doesn't hurt other people is fine by me.

Jada & Will and family are the ones telling us their private business. And IF Will thought Chris was making a crack about Jada's sexuality and SHE is fine with it, and HE is fine with it, then why does he need to get up on stage and hurt someone else over a comment about it. Either they are fine or they are not. His action proves he definitely wasn't fine about something, whether it was about Jada's hair or her open sexuality, his reaction was way over the top and out of line.

It wasn't a proud moment for Smith or Rock, but Smith should have restrained himself and settled things with Rock later. He ruined everybody else's night, including the other winners. There were some great and important moments last night but all anybody is talking about is the slap. The very first woman to EVER win a Best Director award happened and nobody is talking about it at all.

She was the third woman to win best director. And for the 2nd year in a row.

I agree it was so strange. He was singled out a few times and every time he laughed and yucked it up with the comedians and was a good sport about it. When CR talked about Jada, he was smiling and laughing, again being a good sport and just going with it. That is usually the best course of action when a comedian puts the spotlight on you. He knew how to play the game.

But when Jada rolled her eyes, it was like he had to avenge her honor or something. I just can't imagine what he was thinking on that long walk up to the stage. Some part of him must have been screaming, "THIS IS A BAD IDEA." I mean........live television. I just am baffled he went through with it, then mouthed off afterwards and used the F word twice! In front of Hollywood elite, and millions of viewers.

I did start my sentence with "also". But I think she may have meant the average Joe/Jane comedian in a club. Like people are so judgmental/unhinged/seeking conflict , would they approach a comedian in a basement club over a joke?

Yeah, they might - but I don't think they are any more or less likely to do it becasue Will Smith did also. I think if someone was going to be that big of a jerk, then they already were.

It's like if somebody robs a bank and isn't caught, that doesn't make me want to go rob a bank too. And if someone robs a bank and gets caught, I don't think the next guy rethinks his idea to do it too.

TMZ interviewed a woman with full alopecia. She had even been interviewed by Chris Rock who wrote a book for one of his kids who wanted to know why their hair was so weird. So she was kind of surprised that Chris made that joke.

She also mentioned she had read Will's own memoir book and how he mentioned how helpless he felt as a young kid, watching his mother going though violence from his father. She said something like she thinks Will may have been triggered when he saw Jada's reaction and that sent him into hyper-drive mode to protect her.

Well, Will just formally apologized to Chris.

"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be," he continued. "There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness."

"I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family," the actor continued. "I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress."

Too late. 🙄

Btw loser, you forgot to apologize to the other winners whose moments you ruined. 😡

Maybe that comes tomorrow. 🙄

Probably written by his lawyer or publicist.

Makes sense. Look at what happened to Tom Cruise after he fired his PR person. He had a pretty bad rough patch and had to start his own production company.

Still waiting for any of the streaming services to pull his content, especially Disney. They have fired actors and actresses and writers for less.

Yep, just came to post it. . . Now that the Academy is doing a formal review of the situation, he NOW issues an apology. He certainly had NO remorse last night. In fact, his acceptance speech was trying to justify his actions.

too little too late.

btw-went to order a couple of movies w/nominees last night and saw that 'king richard' has been slashed in price on some sights by 50%:tilt::tilt: grrrrrrrrrrrreaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat career move will.

The plot thickens. Richard Williams came forward to condemn Will Smith's behavior before Smith issued his apology. I'm sure this was a factor in his choice to apologize. I saw King Richard and it seems to me that he raised his daughters to be respectful and above the nonsense.

He used Richard’s name as a way to condone what he did. At least that’s the way I took it.

I haven’t seen the movie, but when WS said “life imitates art” and “love makes you do crazy things,” it made me think Richard Williams might be violent/crazy?

The whole incident was insane. Completely unacceptable behavior. Honestly though, I feel like the real punishment is that this crowning achievement in his career....was destroyed by his own actions. I didn't see the movie, but now I really don't care to see it. The whole thing is marred by the "slap heard round the world". I don't know what to expect next....a big Red Table deal, a huge interview with Oprah in her backyard in Montecito? Whatever it is will be highly scripted and crafted to resurrect Smith's image. It'll feel fake and forced. I think he should be quiet for awhile....lay low....and get some serious help.
