You can't have it both ways either FSU beat you this year versus your guys lost it or Really all those games FSU lost on a missed kick was only them losing the game not your guys winning it.

I was at the game and saw two teams that weren't ready to face each other, especially at the start of the season. the game was hampered by turnovers, miscues, and bad special team play. not what was expected by ranked teams. FSU and the Gators rose quickly after the first week. Gators looked like crap today and I hope they drop 10 points. some of the other Canes/FSU games that were lost by wide right and wide left were great games. that one wasn't, and I'll say it again, it was a crapfest. FSU fans were embarassed by their showing. they're on their way to make a great season so far. so is Miami. we'll meet again for the ACC title. that's when bragging rights come down. that's what florida college football is all about. that's where the 'house divided' stickers appear on vehicles. if you don't understand the dynamics of florida college football, don't participate. we love to trash, but when it all comes down, we'll support the top-rated team come bowl time. we have 10 year olds practicing under the lights on monday nights.

I'll edit this to say your former coach Urban Meyer just learned what it's like to coach in the SEC against a real team. zone offense doesn't work here. and he got his team's crap kicked out of them :)

unlike teams around mormon country, Florida teams don't wear magical underwear and sun stones beneath their uniforms. they wear razor wire. repeatedly and year after year. so even though the outcomes this weekend, I'll be able to go to work on monday and we'll all get along just fine. bragging rights mean something down here, they're not 'insulting' as whats-her-face posted earlier. welcome to florida. it's all good.

Gators looked like crap today

Ahhh, yes.

My wonderful Gators.

Once again, they rip my heart out and stomp it into mush. It's such a ......... well, burden, being a Gator sometimes.

:sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Defense looked bad. Offense looked worse. Thay have a lotta' work to do.

Protho's injury made my stomach turn in the replay.

Agreed. I'm a paramedic & I knew what had happened as soon as he hit the ground. It made me wanna' barf.

I don't care what team you are on, I don't like seeing players getting hurt like that. He's got a long road ahead if he is to ever play again. Plates, pin & screws are in this guy's future.

I have to wonder why the 'Bama starters were still in that late. The game was obviously lost for Florida ('bout midway through the second quarter, actually), so what was the sense?

I don't blame the Florida guy. Prothro has probably gone up in the air like that 100 times without difficulty, but this time the foot came down flat with some lateral imapat & it was Bye Bye Shirley.

I think you have read me all wrong brother. I was born an raised on southern football. Played high-school in Florida and have had family play for both Auburn and Ga Tech. Went to grad-school at FSU. I will agree it was a crap fest this year. I was just pointing out that even though Miami did for the most part beat themselves this year any wide-"whatever" even if they were good games could also be seen as FSU losing (well really a freaked out unstable kicker losing) not Miami winning. As for meeting again for the ACC title right now it is hard for me to believe that Miami will beat Va Tech...but we'll see.

1 - Thanks for the sentiment Sideshow Bob...Wish I could return it, but the classless display by a few VaTech players (Michael "I like 14 year old girls" Vick flipping off the crowd, as an example) makes me hope that VPI loses every game they play. Shoot, I even wish Marshall would beat the Hokies (and I didn't think I'd root for Marshall to beat Satan's minions with the souls of all mankind on the line. :rotfl: ) Put it this way...I wouldn't root for Tech at this point if they were playing Notre Dame ! And believe me...that's saying something.

2 - USC proved my point. When they "flip the switch", there is just no stopping them. Any time they need a play, they make it. EVERY time. They've played about as bad as they could play, in two tough stadiums to play in, for the first half of both games...and came out in the second half and just completely dominated both Oregon and ASU, outscoring them 70-7 collectively.

3 - Miami just isn't all that good this year, 'Canes fans. They were lucky to beat Clemson, and deserved to lose the FSU game, even if it was sloppily played (is that a word ? ;) ). I don't think you could beat Tech if the game was in Miami this year. Not a chance of it happening in Lane (though I certainly hope I'm wrong about that).

4 - Alabama and State Penn..er...Penn State really surprised me yesterday. Very impressive wins out of both of them. I hate Joe Paterno with the passion of any red-blooded Mountaineer fan, but I gotta give the old fart his props this year. He's changed his philosophy - at the ripe old age of 147 - and is taking advantage of the young talent he's been able to recruit. Right now, the Big Can't Count Conference looks to be wide open, and I would certainly say PSU is in the mix. Hatred of Joe Paterno or not, it'd be pretty cool to see them send the old guy out in style.

5 - Is there a better example of the "experts" not knowing what they're talking about than the Pittsburgh Panthers ? Ranked in the top 20 preseason, and just got stomped by Rutgers on Friday (which helps this poor Mountaineer feel at least a little better...it's never a completely bad weekend when Pitt loses ;) ). Between the Pittiful Panthers, the Sorry Sooners, the Wilting Wolverines (though a nice win this week), and the (**gasp**)underrated Irish...Does anyone really think that preseason polls should really be included in the national championship discussion ?

From what I've heard the main difference in Penn State is that JoeyP is letting go of some of his control of the team and listening more to the other coaches. Apparently it's doing them some good.
And I'll celebrate every weekend that Pitt loses right along with ya wvrevy :cheer2:

ahhh, the beauty of college football. we defend our boys to the end and we take the 'we'll see' approach. because those are the only two certanties in this sport. hopefully, a little luck runs your way, and you have bragging rights for another week. and what a high you carry that week. :)

Can I just say - where the heck did Penn State come from?? I'm happy for them though. Have a lot of good friends who are die hards.

What I was referring to in my original post are those fair weather fans who claim to be loyal supporters (all schools have them) that talk trash year round and then remove every sign of being a loyal fan as soon as their team loses a game. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. My DH's office is filled with them. Anyone with half a brain could see this season would be different simply because of the players that OU lost after last season. I have been surprised to see just how different, though. I expected a little more from them, especially considering the all-powerful Stoops is in charge. Those fair weather fans have been talking smack since January and now are nowhere to be found. I find that amusing.

I'm quite aware of your 7 national championships. Sooners are constantly throwing that in the face of anyone who cares to listen. Thanks for the dig, though. You've illustrated yet another facet of the "Sooner Magic" with that one.

Kind of like how OSU fans are always (and I mean, always!!!!) bringing up the tired old "bandwagon" argument any time they are challenged by OU fans? And after Saturday's game against Colorado, I think it's safe to say that both teams are having a rebuilding year, and OSU isn't too far from the Big 12 cellar, either!

Hey, JimmieJ! I think you may get your wish this Saturday! Oh well, I guess after 5 years we can spot you a win this year! ;) Are you going to the game? We'll be there enjoying our corn dogs for breakfast (I hate the early kickoffs! No time to enjoy the fair!), and enjoying the game from our end zone seats (boy, we need more donor points!). It'll be fun no matter what happens! :cheer2:

Not a lot of room to talk smack, now that the mighty Mountaineers were defeated on their own field by the "overrated" Hokies. Overrated by the Mountaineers, maybe. And I think it's hard for any WVU fan to talk about "classless displays", given the usual state of the crowd inside your stadium. It's no worse coming from a player than it is from a fan. Either way it is people acting stupidly. I admit that Vick's actions were no good, but you can't classify them as any worse than anything that anyone else in those stands was doing that day.

I think you might want to read everything I've posted. I never said that OSU was a good team this year...far from it, as a matter of fact. We're used to seeing OSU towards the bottom of the Big 12 in football. With Gundy changing the offense so drastically, no one has expected this to be anything but a rebuilding year for us. However, when the mighty sooners are ranked preseason in the top 5 and then proceed to suck it up big time in non-conference play, we find that a bit amusing. When TU gives your team trouble, you should admit that it's a rebuilding year (I'm not speaking to you directly, more to all the obnoxious sooner fans I deal with around here every day).

Maybe the "tired old bandwagon" argument is brought up because it's TRUE. If you don't think so, I'd suggest that you head to Lawton and see how many sooner flags have been brought down this year. It's pathetic. To simplify my statement, before you guys take it the wrong way yet again, not ALL sooner fans are like this, but you must admit that there are some who profess to be fans and then refuse to admit the same the second their team has a bad performance. Some of the fans (and this holds true for most schools) are perfectly capable of dishing it out, but then they can't handle it when it's thrown back in their faces. :confused3

It's all schools. Every team that experiences any success has its bandwagon element. It's a really common social psyc process. BiRGing and CoRFing. When a team wins, people Bask in the Reflected Glory (i.e., they jump on the bandwagon). When they lose, people Cut off Reflected Failure (i.e., they desert the bandwagon like the proverbial rats off a sinking ship). These people don't really identify with the team like true fans do. Highly identified fans are another story completely.

::yes:: Yep. I have no problems with the true fans of any teams (even the sooners---**insert shocked gasp here**). It's the fair-weather ones that give all schools a bad name, IMO. :teeth:

I've seen plenty of classless displays, both at Mountaineer Field and at away games. That most certainly includes Lane Stadium. I've seen and heard any number of fans complain about the treatment they received at that pit in Blacksburg. When I see it at home, I say something about it. Can you say the same ? The fact that you defend a scumbag like Vick makes me seriously doubt it.

But that's ok...You enjoy watching that pair of criminals leading your team. For some people, winning is the only thing that matters, regardless of the cost. I guess we know which category you belong to, huh ? You must be so proud. :rotfl:

Funny...I noticed that Marcus apologized for his lack of class: Vick Apologizes. And he didn't even whine about the "mean old people in the stands"...lol...But I guess he doesn't have to, as long as he's got people like you to do it for him.

Last game between WVU and VPI...My opinion: Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Where did I defend him? In fact, I said his actions were no good. I also never said that poor actions from the stands DIDN'T happen at Lane Stadium; you never brought that up in your post, so I never said anything about it. So I can say the same, b/c I did decry Vick's actions.

Yes, b/c I have actual control over who plays for VT, since I am the director of personnel. Am I supposed to stop being a fan b/c some players got into trouble? Doesn't make sense.

I never whined. I said I didn't like Vick's actions either, then made the comment that it happens everywhere by both players and fans, and the players' actions aren't any worse than the fans' actions. How is that whining about the "mean old people in the stands", any more than your post is whining about "it happens at Lane Stadium, too"?

Sounds like sour grapes to me. But I bet your opinion would be different if YOU had taken home the Black Diamond trophy instead of us.

It's not sour grapes. I posted a congratulatory note as soon as I got home from the game. Tech played a perfect game, and it's tough to beat anybody when they do that.

But go ahead and think whatever you want. Frankly, I couldn't care less. As I stated before, I'm glad the series is over. The Hokie fans have gooten too obnoxious to deal with, and if I've gotta play a team full of criminals, I'd at least like to watch it in sunny Florida like the rest of the country does. :rotfl:

Bye. :wave2:

Gator here - we've had season tickets since grad in '97!
Biggest rival is FSU - free shoes University....."it's not like I shot the president"!

I like Spurrier and hope next year he does much better than this year.

I don't like the way we got Meyer....I mean we get Utah's former president...they want Spurrier to interview and then Meyer doesn't even interview?!! *** - really backhanded and sleazy...

My dad graduated from Alabama so he was happy this weekend!

I have a tendancy to pick former Gators on my fantasy team as well!

the Swamp is awesome....I have been to lots of college stadiums but nothing can compare! It is great!

I did read everything you posted. You made the comment in reference to our National Championships that "Sooners are constantly throwing that in the face of anyone who cares to listen." Well, every Cowboy fan I've ever tried to talk football with has brought up the "bandwagon fan" issue, and I get so tired of hearing it. You're right, every school has them. I remember after our loss to OSU in 2001, I saw parents at my DD's school, who I had never seen wearing anything related to OSU before, suddenly decked out in all orange and beaming with pride. The next time OSU lost, the orange was gone. And just yesterday, on the OSU message boards, I saw more than a couple "Fire Gundy" posts, which is crazy because he is a good coach and is working hard to improve the program. It happens everywhere and I'll admit that there are fair weather Sooner fans, just like there are fair weather Cowboy fans. I am also more than happy to admit OU is not going to have the best season this year. We lost too many experienced players, and our QB needs to gain more confidence. I am very realistic about our odds on Saturday, but I will be there and cheering for my beloved Sooners just the same. I think if you looked outside of the few obnoxious Sooner fans you seem to know, you would see that most feel the same way.

When I mentioned that you might what to read my previous posts, I was responding to your comment on how close OSU is to the Big 12 cellar and was referring to the fact that I never posted on here to brag about what an awesome team OSU would have this year.

My comment about the Sooner bandwagon was made in reference to a poster who brought up the sooners championships and then asked how many football championships OSU has. I'll never slight the sooners their accomplishments, which are something to be proud of, regardless of how many blows to the back they had to make to get there. :rolleyes1

I do look outside the obnoxious ones, despite the fact that they're the loudest and most annoying ones usually. I have lots of good friends who are die hard sooner fans (my FIL being chief among them) :earseek: , and we have lots of fun with the friendly rivalry. There are more than a few obnoxious sooner (and cowboy) fans, though. I've got the repair receipts from DH's vehicle being vandalized on our last trip to Norman to prove it. It was also fun trying to explain to DD, who was 5 at the time, why an OU fan threw soda at her as we were walking to our seats. Very classy. The fair weather fans give both of the schools' die-hard alums a bad name.

No, you were right, I apologize. You were not doing any braging about your team at all. However, I think it was your comment that you would enjoy seeing how far OU can climb out of the Big 12's cellar before it's over with was what got me. Since we are 1-0 in the conference, I don't think we're there.

Believe me, we have the exact same stories about rudness and vandalism from our trips to Stillwater. In fact, we had problems during a visit in May to attend a wedding, and it wasn't even football season.

I guess the problem I have is that fans of both schools are so vitriolic towards each other. I mean, I don't like OSU, and I really couldn't stand Miles when he was there, but in the end, they are just a bunch of kids who are working hard and playing a game. Name calling and sarcasm is so unnecessary. We should be proud of our own teams, and not try so hard to tear down everybody else.
