The Official Clay Aiken Discussion Thread

Those are amazing pictures - I can't wait to see it in person. (Correct me if I'm wrong though - Debi, I don't think those were hers...I think she was just kind enough to share them with us. Which, THANK YOU!! :goodvibes)

I spent my weekend downloading the mp3s from the show, and he sounds amazing. It's a VERY different show from what we're all used to, but that's not a bad thing. By the way - when I say WEEKEND, I MEAN weekend...I'm on dial up.

Any luck for you Christa? I was hoping to stop in here today and hear some excitement from you. I also PM'd you, so check it out.

But, in other news - Brandie, are you around? Any news on Baby Ella? I've been thinking about you - I hope the terrible weather didn't come to your backdoor. Let us know what you've been up to!!

I'm still around...the tornados were south of us. We got a doozie of a storm overnight that night, but nothing more than some heavy wind and rain. :)

No baby Ella yet! She tried to escape over the weekend, but it was a false alarm...If she doesn't get out soon, I have a feeling that Momma's gonna evict her! ;)

At last, some CD info:

Lowdown: Aiken, Cdn. producer See Eye To Eye

By KAREN BLISS -- For JAM! Music
North Carolina pop crooner Clay Aiken calls Canadian Jaymes Foster-Levy "absolutely wonderful." The runner-up on 2003's American Idol and the best-selling artist from that season has been working with the sister of acclaimed producer David Foster (Josh Groban, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion) on the follow-up to 2003's "Measure Of A Man" and they have been taking their sweet-sounding time.

"We have been in the studio throughout the past four or five months," says Aiken, who is taking a break from recording for his second annual Joyful Noise Tour, which launched in Vancouver Nov. 2 and ends with a pair of shows in Florida, Dec. 29 and 30.

"She used to be at Warner Bros ,and went out on her own," says Aiken. "It was a match made by my management company. We interviewed a number of people to see what gelled and what didn't and she and I got along famously, so we decided to work on this together. She's absolutely wonderful and she and I see eye to eye on a lot of things."

While the Foster-Levy divides her time between Victoria, BC and Los Angeles, says Aiken, the two have been working in L.A. The album is the first proper follow-up to his post-Idol rush job, 2003's Measure Of A Man, which went multi-platinum in the U.S. and sold 167,000 units in Canada, according to Nielsen SoundScan. He also put out "Merry Christmas With Love" last year.

"The last album ('Measure Of A Man') was something that I was proud of in the sense of' Wow, I have an album,'" Aiken says with a laugh. "So it was cool for that, but there were some songs on there that I did not necessarily connect with, songs that talk about being lovelorn and full of angst because someone wronged me -- and I don't know anything about that. I didn't know anything about that then; I don't know anything about that now."

Although Foster-Levy had experience with the Popstars television franchise when she was an executive at her brother's now-defunct label, 143 Records, which took a similar approach to Idol in that the album was practically ready-made no matter who won, she's fully behind Aiken's choice not to rush-record this new studio album, according to the singer -- and there's no reason to.

Now that his success has been firmly established, they are sifting through the best song submissions, something Aiken didn't have a chance to do on "Measure Of A Man" because it was so important to strike while the iron was hot and the TV fan-base still there.

"More important than what it sounds like is what is says to me," Aiken says of the next album. "That's why we're taking our time. I want to make sure that what I sing represents something that I know something about and I feel. Some songs we find and we said, 'That is it. We're gonna do that' and so I've gone and recorded them. And then there's been some other ones where we've gone in and we've liked the song a little bit; we wanted to change it some and see if we could make some modifications.

"So it's all up and down, completely across the spectrum, where we are as far as each song goes. Some have been recorded; some we have been listening to submissions and we continue to get them daily."

Still, in his quest to forge the direction with which he's happy, he's won't be co-writing any songs as many singers are wont to do after first-time success and freedom.

"I'm not much of a writer," he admits. "A few lines I can pull off in a song. I know there is a lot of people out there nowadays who say they've written a song and that means they've written a line or so. So it may be possible that I'll go in and change a line or two, but I don't think it's fair to take credit for writing songs, if I just change the line (laughs).

"So I'm not really going to do any writing, but we've taken our time and focused on finding really good stuff and, as a result of that, we've found a lot of stuff (laughs), so the problem now is trying to figure out which songs make the album and which don't, or do we want to put out a larger project or multiple projects, or do we want to do the best of the best? So right now, we're in this quandary, exactly what we've found do we want to go with."

When Aiken reconnects with Foster after his tour concludes, they will get down to picking the final track listing, but he still won't be swayed to put a deadline on it.

"We'd like to have the album out in the first half of next year, and I know that's a very broad time frame, but more importantly than saying we want to have it done in January or February is saying that we want to make sure that what we put out is something that I'm proud, and that we're all proud of, all the people who have worked on it," says Aiken. "So I'd hate to say February and then we realize we should take some more time on it."

Thanks for the info, Kim - and Brandie, it's good to hear all is well. I bet Ella is as anxious to be evicted as you guys are to meet her properly!!

Christa, I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy the show. On the bright side, he's supposedly allowing video cameras in to tape concerts as long as the venue doesn't object. I'm sure someone will have it on video to share. *cough cough* But no promises, cause someone *cough cough* isn't sure what will be going on when someone *cough cough* has her show. ;) (yes, that's for you too, Brandie).

BY THE WAY....

FAN CLUB MEMBERS!!

The rest of the tour meet 'n greet buttons are up, so head on over there, Jersey girls!! (And NYC, and CT, and FL, and anywhere in between.)

Good luck!! :wizard:

I just entered the Meet and Greet contest for Camden. Please keep all fingers (and toes!) crossed!

Ok, so it looks like there is some good news and some...bad news. Well, actually, the bad news isn't actually bad, it's just news, and isn't about CLAY at all, but about the tour. The other news is good cause it's news, but it might be considered bad news, depending if your glass is half full or empty or cracked.

Anyways....on with the news.

Firstly, Jacob has left the tour. I'm not sure if that means anything to anyone, but I know some of us have enjoyed Clay's backup trio, so he'll be noticably absent. There's plenty of speculation as to why Jacob left, but all Clay announced was that it was a personal matter. I'm going to guess it wasn't on the best of terms, since it was a permanent decision made during intermission of the show on Friday night. I mean, this is just me, but I would think if it was a health or family problem for Jacob, they might have held out hope that he could rejoin the tour later or, at least, give him a proper send off....they didn't. He was there for the first half of the show, didn't come out for the second.

The OTHER news....Clay's new album!!

I read on another board that someone met Jaymes Foster in Kansas City and asked about the timeline. JF told her that it'll DEFINITELY be out by the summer, and most likely be released in the late spring. She also told the person that Back For More (which he performed on Good Morning America and the summer tour, for those who don't remember) will definitely be a track on the album.

So that's all I've got.

I HOPE that someone will be reporting a little meet 'n greet action in the next week or so!!

(And let's get our baker's hats on - Clay's birthday is next Wednesday!!)

Are you kidding me?? NO JACOB??? :( Sad face! We loved him! My sister and I met him after 2 of the shows and he was awesome. :( :( :(

I, too, am bummed that Jacob has left the tour. There was one post on the Clayboard that Angela was crying during the second half of the show. What a shame. The show definately won't be the same without Jacob. I love Jacob's voice, and think that he, Angela and Quianna make an excellent team to back up Clay. He'll definately be missed.

I entered the meet-and-greet for Camden, and am still waiting to hear. Please keep all fingers and toes crossed!!

ROLL CALL!!!

Boy, this thread has been quiet for entirely too long What happened? I'm still trying to recover from the ulcers on my corneas that make me BLIND, but what's everyone else's excuse?!? ;) (Brandie, you're excused on account of your new auntness, although we haven't had an update yet...)

Anyhoo, we need a roll call!! I think the next couple of weeks are busy for Dis Clay fans, so who's counting down to what? And do you know what you're wearing?!? :confused3

Sarah, make sure you wish him a happy birthday from us!!

By the way - the next round of Meet 'n Greet notifications hasn't gone out just yet, but should be out today or tomorrow - after all, those concerts start FRIDAY!

Good luck everyone!!

PS - Kimberle, I PM'd you.

The kid sabotages your KC Clay date and then decides to stick around the old neighborhood for an extra couple of weeks? JEEZ!! She's really pushing her luck!! I guess mom was happy she got to see Harry Potter though!!

Um....but maybe she'll push her luck till Wednesday and you can torment your sister with the fact that her BABY was born on CLAY'S birthday!! :rotfl:

Well, congratulations anyway and I hope you'll share her with us when she arrives!! :cheer2:

I'm still waiting (not-so-patiently) for Camden meet-and-greet news. The concert is December 11, so they better notify me soon - I need to go shopping! :)

Debi, any word yet?

I was just at the OFC, and people are posting that they got their notification emails for the next round of Meet 'n Greets. No one has responded for Camden yet, but supposedly they were all sent.

Here's to hoping you've got one and you're just keeping it a secret from your jealous Dis friends!!

(Send your spirit to let us know if you're still trying to recover from the news. ;) )

If all e-mails were sent, then I didn't get one. :( Hopefully there's a chance for next tour!

Oh Kylene...that would be too funny to have my niece born on Clay's bday! But unless she's uber-stubborn...that's not gonna happen! The last call I received from my mom was at about 7:15am (EST) and she was at 9cm and happy that she had the epidural...lol...the next time I hear from anyone, she should be here! I'll post when I hear!!

SHE'S HERE!!!! SHE'S HERE!!!!!!
My niece was born just a little bit ago!!! I don't know any details yet, but I do know that she's still a girl...lol...and her name is Ella Simone! Grandma was a bit too excited to get the details for me!

Congratulations, Aunt Brandie!! :)

Welcome Out, Baby Ella!!

Congratulations, Brandie. May the new little princess in your life be spoiled with happy times, sweet memories, and plenty of Clay Aiken!! :goodvibes
