***The Official AKV Owners And Lovers Thread***. Come And Chat

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking, might be cutting it too close.

Have fun. Haven’t done the rhinos yet. This trip did our first tours: Caring For Giants & Wild Africa Trek. Weather was on our side this week. Had fun on both. The Trek is really good with wood bridge walks over hippos & crocs, private safari, finishing with a light lunch at that overlook near the flamingos.

I just returned from 7 nights in AKV - Jambo. Had to switch rooms twice as I decided to pop a couple of club level nights in the middle. From what I experienced, the refurbishment that will be starting soon (if it hasn't already) is desperately needed.

Room 1 - Stayed in for 3 nights. Value Studio Room itself was in decent condition. Fridge worked well, nice and quiet. Needed defrosting, but that was to be expected on these small units. The wardrobe door was separating off the frame & tables & dresser finishes were rather beat up, down to the raw wood in places.

Room 2 - Club level studio. Furniture all looked great. The fridge was groaning and wheezing all day & night, but worked. TV was on the fritz, but I wasn't using it enough to call about it. The thermostat was all over the place, there was no control on room temp, want 72? Here, how about 75? Want 69? How about 66? Oh, and the bed was like a rock. Not a good sleep.

Room 3 - Another value studio - this was on the other side, pool view. Furniture was good, some scratches, but not bad. Fridge was a hotel room fridge, no freezer compartment, but since I didn't need it it was fine - and quiet! Thermostat was updated, worked well. Bed was bliss compared to that last one. Of all 3 rooms, this one was the best. Room needed better lighting.

All three rooms used different coffee makers, none worked well. Even though I was club level I still tried to brew my own in the room - I tried to get coffee out in the food area, but the creamer I use was in my room, so I just went with it.

I look forward to the updates, I hope they keep the tiles behind the kitchenette the same, I love those little simba and critters. The bathroom shower tiles too - they add color. Hope the new furniture & carpets are still themed. Better lighting in the bathroom sink area would be nice too.

I was in the 3BR Grand Villa at Kidani last week. Things definitely need refreshed. The king bed had two ditches and I practically slid out if I didn't move close enough to the center. The upholstery on the chair in the living room was quite torn. I hope that when they do the rooms at Kidani, they put in hand-held shower wands. I also hope they add the stools that are in the bathrooms at other refurbed resorts so I can get into the bed. I called and asked for a step stool and it came in handy to see the controls on the washer and dryer as well. I'll be back at Kidani in early December, I'm hoping for a refurbished room.

We are in a GV in Jambo in Nov. Hoping that Jambo is in better shape.

I’m hoping to stay next July for 10/11 nights.
I have 2 teens who obviously don’t want to share rooms.
If you had to choose would it be a 1bed Savanna or 2bed resort view?
Thanks

Kidani or Jambo? Jambo, I’d opt for resort view 2 br., since many of the resort views overlook either Sunset or Uzima savanna, however, by next July Jambo will be in the midst of renovations. Kidani should be done by then & I’d likely opt for the 1 br. savanna view at Kidani because only a few of the Kidani resort view villas overlook the small giraffeless Pembe savanna, however, w/ teens not wanting to share a room - a 1 br. won’t work & I’m not sure whether they’ll keep the sleeper chair or switch to the under TV small single bed in the livingroom - which might be uncomfortably small for a teen.
