***The Official AKV Owners And Lovers Thread***. Come And Chat

Unless all 30 are staying at AKL/V the pool won’t work since it’s limited to guests of Jambo/Kidani. The Jambo lobby is spacious, but the seating/conversation areas are arranged to accommodate smaller groups, not a big group of 30 people. The Mara does have seating for around 100 people & it’s not usually crowded, so that’s likely your best bet.
I just had a vow renewal in October of ‘23. Jambo is our favorite hotel and we love the Sunset Lobby area. We used it for a first peek since that wasn’t a thing when we first got married in ‘03. The Sunset Lobby is just past the check-in desk and it’s a gorgeous library-type area. There’s room for everyone to stand or sit there.

I thought about the Sunset overlook or one of the two covered large balconies that overlook the Arusha rock overlook, but I wasn’t sure 30 people would fit in any of those spaces & there’s not seating for 30 & OP mentioned having easy access to food which none of those spots have 🤷‍♀️

Sorry if this is an FAQ on AKV, but is Jambo House and Kidani the same association? They appear separate in the DVC site, but you only see AKV on the resale sites. So I am a bit confused.
We are looking to add on and with PIT points and lack of 1 and 2 BR units decided to start looking elsewhere. Seems AKV is very popular and everyone that stays there loves it. So a followup question is beside having to bus everywhere, what are the downsides?

Your points are assigned to either Jambo or Kidani… mine are Kidani… but you have the 11 month priority booking at both. An oddity of the online booking system is that it defaults to the one your points are associated with so you need to remember to also check the other when searching… mine select Kidani and I have to add Jambo. Not a problem though since it does recognize 11 month window for both.

I personally don’t find the buses to be an issue and definitely appreciate the quiet beauty of the resort… a lovely peaceful respite from the chaos of the parks!

Yes, AKV consists of the Jambo rooms that were converted to DVC villas as well as the entire Kidani building. A given contract will be deeded to either Jambo or Kidani, but in practice the owner has 11-month access to booking either one.

Sorry, clicked Post too soon. To us there are no downsides other than having to bus everywhere, and we don't really mind that. To be honest, though, we frequently have a car, and we love being able to park under the building at Kidani, close to the elevator that takes us to our room. We routinely book 1BR, and I won't stay in the 1BR at Jambo due to the tub/shower with the rim that's so wide and high that it's difficult for me to get into and out of.

Great thanks for the help all. I knew I could count on the collective wisdom of the boards! We have been DVC since 96 and sadly we have never stayed at AKV. We always stay in a 1 or 2br villas and AKV looks to have great inventory. We also always rent a car, and it sounds like parking will be much better than at BWV, for instance. Now to stalk dvcforless and find a good resale value.

We lucked out and got a week-long upcoming stay in a Jambo Value 1 Bedroom in November. I've read that there are various views among these rooms. Does anyone have any tips in increasing our chances of getting a room with a view of the Savannah?

If anyone is staying onsite at AKL this week, I hope you'll keep us updated as to the status of the animals and resort ;) Hopefully, Milton will pass thru with minimal damage and the animals will be okay. I know animals sense weather changes, and even emotions of their caregivers - hoping everyone makes it thru this with little more than interesting stories to tell!

I've not confirmed it personally, but have been told some value rooms have a little view. I was told, unlike most bookings, with a value room you cannot request a specific room location. I'd still feel free to call (although NOT this week) when you're a couple weeks out. https://touringplans.com/walt-disney-world has some photos from balconies. You can find layouts online that show where room types are located but I purchased the field guide https://www.dvcfieldguide.com/ for around $15 since it has a ton of info all in one place. I find their diagrams super helpful.

Anyone who is interesting in booking ANY of the value rooms for August 2025.. now is your time! I was browsing inventory and there was no availability as usual. I refreshed and nearly the entire month of August was available to book! Value studio, value 1-bedroom, and value 2-bed!! Looks like a chunk of rooms became available in July and September too.

I share this in the hopes to help out someone looking to book but also now I'm super curious.. could this possibly have anything to do with the pending refurb schedule??? 🤔

Yes, I booked a pre-cruise stay in August in a Value Studio with cash the other day - or rather had my TA book it. :)

We arrived at Kidani last Friday and came back yesterday. We were suppose to come back Wednesday, but Milton said no. We saw minimum damage at Kidani. Lots of branches and leaves on the ground, a few trees, but nothing horrible. We walked over to Boma for dinner Wednesday, since the internal bus wasn’t running. It was raining with some big gust. The staff said it was ok, but we had to be back by 8:30pm since there was a curfew.

We felt very safe there during the storm. They did a great job.

Overall we had a good time.

I'm glad you still had a good trip. I assume they will need to check Savannas carefully before letting them out again ... Were any of the animals back out on the Savanna by the time you left Friday?

[ Interesting about the curfew - I heard CMs had differing interpretations as to whether curfew meant you needed to be in your room, or just inside the Resort building. I was told there is direct (all interior access) between Kidani and Jambo but I've never used it... ]

What would availability for the first two weeks of December look like at the 7 month window for AKL? We are wanting to book for 2025, likely the first week of Dec, but unsure if they'd be availability. We'd be after a 1BR. Thanks!

I don't have access right now (it's on my desktop computer) but if you get the DVC Field Guide it has great graphics showing stuff like this perfectly for every DVC resort. I can't imagine being a DVC owner and not having it for reference www.dvcfieldguide.com - I think it's about $12-15 dollars? They put out new ones regularly, but if you just have one copy it will make a world of difference. Has great diagrams of the DVC room locations and so much more too.

The first week of December is historically the toughest WDW DVC week to book & AKV is no exception -even 1 br.s will be a challenge. I’d book my home resort at 11 months & try to change at 7 months.

In addition, the resort will probably still be under refurbishment on the Kidani side and possibly the Jambo side??? since the permits for Kidani are through 12/31/25, so this will decrease the inventory of rooms.
