*** The Official 2014 - DLR -July Thread ***(We All Have Been There & Back Home)

Yikes! We (my DD, 7 yr old DS and 4 yr old DD) are staying at the DLH from Sunday, July 6th - Saturday July,12th. I am completely overwhelmed at this point. We have the 5 day hopper pass and I was planning for some DTD time and some pool time as well. Originally I was thinking of "burning" a day of our pass on arrival even though we were arriving late in the day and then having a down day at the pool/DTD on Wednesday. But I wonder if that is the best option? Will Sunday night be less crowded? I understand Tuesdays and Wednesdays are also less crowded?

Also, I am a complete newbie and have a few more questions:

1) What are the best books/apps/resources out there for planning (I love to be armed with as much info as possible)?

2) I keep reading about FASTPASS strategies but none seem to have been updated recently. Can someone point me in the right direction?

3) Kids are 7 and 4. What are the absolute must sees? I am completely paranoid about the crowds (don't even ask why we are going in July -- I have no idea) and want to make sure that we see/do what we need to see/do in order to call this trip a "win."

Thank you!

P.S. - Sorry if I posted this somehow incorrectly. I really am a newbie :-)

We are headed to DLR for our first family visit this July. We're staying at Paradise Pier - Concierge. Still debating about switching to DLH for the super cute pool.

:welcome:Dis Family :disrocks: ---- Please share your dates so I can update the front page with your information...

Welcome! Many of us here on the July thread are new to DL as well so we may not be the best source of info. As for the must see things, I'll give you the standard answer I've seen: it all depends on what specific interests your family has. One thing I've learned from reading the DL forum is that every DL vet has different opinions on what you must see. The great thing is, everyone over here on the DL side of DIS are very friendly and helpful. I personally have found the DL people so much more patient and friendly than the WDW side when answering newbie questions. I guess it's that laid back California attitude shining through.

Sorry Dis Friend - I should have responded to your questions when I posted a Welcome to the July thread with a simple answer like (I do not have DLR experienced answers to help and so I need to leave it up to the Dis-Posters that has visited DLR before) but I needed to think about your questions.

We always visit Disney in July, love the weather and the crowds, its just our favorite time to visit Disney. DD and I love watching other families experience Disney. I started taking my DD when she was 3 years old, touring the Parks with my DD on my shoulders... WOW!!! that was fun and DD could see everything with a 360 view. She did not have to look at the backs of people legs all day long. :lmao:

It took my DD and I - 4 years to get to know the WDW parks. DD was restricted to certain rides because of the height requirements. So It was good to be able to graduate to the next stage of experiences year to year.

You can also post a new thread asking if anyone would like to share, postal mail, scan and email a map of the 2 parks for you. I've seen this many times.... and get a great response. You could study the map and get to idea where everything is located and set a preliminary touring plan.

I have learned a lot form this link I borrowed from Mary Jo - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1072276

To put it in a nut shell - You will have a blast and you'll be a Disney Pro before you even get to the Parks... Hope this help a little bit.

Dj - you are definitely correct interests and touring styles play a big part and the DL side of the Dis-Board is quite different. :thumbsup2

Lots of us going now in July
Thanks Bob for getting us all together :goodvibes

In another thread here someone posted a link to PDF maps of the park that are quite useful, I'll try find it now.

Got my kiddo's Snackeez cups in last night!! They were so excited, I figured this would be good to have for our long road trip in my new car(my kids aren't allowed to eat and drink in it now but I will have to make an exception for our trip)
