The Official 2014 - Disneyland Resort -June Thread! Let's Plan!

This will be our first-ever trip to Disneyland. DH is sick of going to WDW, so for our sons high school graduation, off to the west coast we go! We are staying at the Tropicana Inn in middle June. I hope the crowds aren't super bad, but I hope the weather is nice and hot!!

Where do I find the dates for grad nite? I hope I won't be there for one!

We will be there for 3 days, and one of them will be a Grad Night. We couldn't avoid it. :sad2: It is our last night though, so hopefully we will have seen and done everything we wanted to do by them. I would imagine the day of, especially the evenings, will get INCREDIBLY crowded.

Hi all - thanks for starting this thread.

This will be my 4th summer in a row in DL in June - so obviously we think it works out pretty well. As someone who only goes once a year (not local basically) here is my advice for people concerned about Grad Nights.

But first to the person who asked about fireworks I'm pretty sure after Memorial Day all of the night shows and the parade are on the "summer" schedule - so every day and some twice a day.

The important thing to note from my perspective is that I have young kids so I am not in the parks until closing but at least some of us do stay until at least 9pm. I think if you have young kids on your trip it is quite easy to avoid the grads.

-have park hoppers - one park gets crowded, just move over! Sometimes it did seem like a ton of grads came out of nowhere.

-going early is even more important! Grads don't show up until the afternoon usually so the mornings are free from grads and locals driving in. It's also overcast which is perfect park weather IMO. It can be chilly in the evenings in June for sure!!

-think like a Grad - do the thrill rides and rides everyone loves (Pirates, Haunted Mansion) early in the day - if you're worried about the crowds in the evening do a nice dinner or have some pool time - from what I could tell Fri and Sat Grad Nights are way more crowded than the others

I know the boards fill up every year with people complaining about Grad behavior - and of course I wasn't there so I don't doubt anyone's story - but in my experience Grad Nights are not a huge deal. Some people go in worrying so much about the grads I swear they are LOOKING for bad behavior from them. I think any time there are large groups of people in the parks together you can get annoying behavior, moving around in line a bit, loudness, one person starts whispering something, then everyone does, etc. but I've seen that with plenty of non-grad groups.

For me the worst behaved people I run into at DL have NOT been grads - they are adults who push and shove and treat CMs like their servants, and take photos with flash even when they are not supposed to in dark rides. I do my very best to just ignore these people and NOT let then affect my trip. But I was happy when my DH yelled "stop flashing!" at a person who was taking a flash photo of every.single.thing. in Pirates. Luckily they did stop - I am not a fan of confrontation but that really was ruining the ride.

On that note I have read several stories on this board of people who told a CM at the end of a ride that people close to them were super loud, used flash photography, or did something else that ruined their experience and they were allowed to ride again. I'm sure this totally depends on the CM but it's something to keep in mind - especially if you waited in line a long time.

I hope everyone has a great trip. I can't wait!

This is helpful, thanks

Absolutely! :cool1:

I am personally in kind of a holding pattern right now. I have made all of my reservations, and I am waiting for it to be 60 days before my date of travels so I can make dining reservations. (Actually, I think I may finally be there... must go count!)

Also, I am waiting for all of my "stuff" in the mail from Disney. My vouchers, etc. I'd really like to be able to call Medieval Times and make my reservation there, but they said since I paid through Disney I have to wait till I have that travel voucher. That scares me, since I want a reservation on a Saturday in June. :scared:

What's everyone else up to?

Waiting for our 60 days to open up, which will be early next week. And since we have APs and are trying to get the most bang for our buck, trying to figure if we can fit another trip in somewhere (besides our Nov).

We'll be at DL June 16-20, staying VGC. We're WDW veterans on our first trip to DL and while many may feel that DL/CA is easier to navigate, I must say I'm a bit overwhelmed with all of the differences. I'm also having a hard time understanding why Disney would build something as spectacular as WOC and not plan a better viewing area? My parents are traveling with us and standing for the extended period of time required for optimal viewing, even with the dining package, will be nearly impossible for them.

We're trying hard to have our DL vacation be a "worry free zone" but now I see Grad nights two of the nights we'll be there. Fortunately for us, we're not late night park people so hopefully the impact of the celebrating teens will be minimal.

I'm sure all will work out fine and we're looking forward to our time on the west coast!

AMEN Sister!! :worship: I am not sure that *I* will be able to stand and wait for that long, and have almost resigned myself to blowing off WOC because of this. We'll see, but I am not going to hold down a piece of earth for 2 hours on my only (planned) DCA day. :sad2: Really ridiculous that there are no benches anywhere nearby.

Ok, show of hands.

I have eaten at The Plaza many times before (have to have the fried chicken and the alfredo pasta!!) but always in the "off-season" (as much as Disneyland has an off-season). June is a whole new experience.

I see that it actually does take reservations. I have always just walked in and gone right through their little cafeteria line, no problem.

In June though, should I make a reservation? Does the Plaza ever get THAT busy?

I believe they only take reservation for the character meal in the morning. I think the chicken dinner is still cafeteria style. Hopefully somebody who knows for sure can answer.

We will be there June 1 to 6! pixiedust:pixiedust:
So excited! So far we have made reservations for Big thunder BBQ and surfs up character breakfast. That one will be our last day, before we leave for the airport.
I am just waiting to make F! Dessert reservations. Have to wait 2 mire weeks for the 30 day mark.
It's our first trip staying on site too! Staying at Paradise Pier!

I made my dinner reservations for Big Thunder BBQ today for the evening of the 10th. :dance3:

I don't think I need to make reservations for anything else. We are eating at the Plaza Inn the other evening, and then just counter service for the rest of the trip. For our Disneyland lunches we will probably eat at Harbour Galley and the Golden Horseshoe or maybe Tomorrowland Terrace. For our California Adventure day, we are planning one of our meals at Flo's V8 Cafe and one at Paradise Garden Grill. If the kids don't want Paradise Garden, we may go to Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta first and get them food and then find a table where we can all sit together after the adults get Paradise Garden.

Made all our dining reservations today; just undecided whether to do Carthay Circle for lunch or for dinner. We have done lunch twice and loved it - I'm sure dinner would be just as nice and thought it would be fun to be there in the evening which would also free us up for Taste Pilots or Pacific Warf for an early lunch...yummy!

Thanks to everyone who have posted suggestions about navigating Grad Nights. We will be there during this time but don't anticipate being in the parks late unless it's to go in for CC dinner - we'll be hitting the parks early and the pools and cocktails in the afternoon :cool1:

Can't wait for our June trip. It will be me, my husband, our toddler (2 1/2), and my mom. We are staying at PPH. We arrive the afternoon of Sunday, June 1. We are going to take that day to get settled in and explore Downtown Disney and maybe have a dip in the pool.

We will have park hoppers for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We will take advantage of our early entry privileges as much as possible. We have decided to do the WOC Dining package for lunch at the Wine Country Trattoria. We are also doing Surf's Up breakfast one morning and dinner at Blue Bayou on our last night in the parks.

We will be flying out on Friday, June 6. I am hopeful that 4 full days will be enough time to do all of our "must do's" in the parks. We are WDW vets so we are used to crowds and lines! Disneyland is rather new to us. My mom went in the 90's with my dad. I went in 2011 on a super short visit with my cousin and her kids. Her son's class won a trip to DLR because they won the Disney Planet Challenge. We had about 1 3/4 days at the two parks and had Planet Challenge events so we only did a small fraction of the attractions.

We were in WDW for New Years 2012/13. It was a family trip with 14 of us (8 adults and 6 kids). It was fabulous and hectic! I am hoping for a fabulous but less hectic DLR trip since there will only be 4 of us.

Honestly, the things I look forward to the most are all about my sweet boy. I can't wait to see the look on his face again when he sees Mickey Mouse again. I must be honest and admit that I cried when his face lit up in WDW when he saw Mickey. I also look forward to taking him to see the Disney Junior stage show. He loved the old version in WDW and I am excited for him to get to experience the new version.

I am trying to go in with a flexible plan and adjust as necessary. It is hard to be too rigid with a toddler. That being said I have got to make sure we do RSR in DCA!

Hope everyone has a safe and magical June vacation!

I have never been to disneyland so I cant help. But alfredo pasta sounds so good!

Only a few more days until our official hours start coming out!

Did anyone else notice that there are no early entries listed for the last week of May on the Disney site? Hopefully, this is normal and they will be added in later, because the conspiracy theorist in me is worried this trend will spill over into June.

I been watching the hours like a hawk. I was glad to see they have fireworks the week before during the week. I hope that is the case for the first following week when I'm there. :) getting so excited!

We always go right after Memorial Day. Our experience has been that the hours change and the fireworks go to daily right after the holiday.

We will be there June 1st-6th. There are 8 of us going. 6 adults and 2 kids (pretty good ratio for this mama...lol). We are staying at PPH. We are doing Goofy's Kitchen on morning and then Ariel's Grotto for lunch a different day. We went last year at this same time and it wasn't too crowded IMO. We waited about 45 mins for the big rides and no more than 15 mins for the others. I'm so excited to go again this year!!!!
