The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Hello! I haven't caught up reading but thought I'd do a quick check-in. I'm having ankle issues (arthritis!?) but pressing through. I think my longest run pre-race will be 11 miles and I am okay with that. I have 9 miles to go today and then physical therapy right after. I think I am going to run a 10k next weekend to move up a corral. Planning to read through all the pages I've missed here so that I can properly respond to folks later. Keep moving forward, everyone, we are almost there :cheer2:

Good luck with your run! My longest will also be 11 and I'm ok with it too. Only one more "LONG" run before the race! yippee!!!! and I honestly never thought I'd get to the day when I thought 6 miles was a "short" run.....

My treadmill gets fixed tomorrow!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: I've missed it. It's my savior during those torrential downpours of fall and when I'm home alone with DS.

I'm feeling a little more optimistic today because I remember all too well how I felt last september after my first 10+ mile run of the year. Let's just say I had to go give a toast at a friend's bridal shower and I pretty much wanted to curl up into a ball and sleep forever. Today, I'm feeling great! A little sore in my 'bad' knee and my hips definitely disliked the cant of the road I ran on, but nothing I can't shake out.

I might have tried to do a little too much Saturday.

I woke up at 3:30am to 100% humidity and temps all ready in the mid 70's so I could get out to run 12.5 miles.

The run was hot and wet but I finished feeling pretty good as I mentioned earlier. I got home, took a bath and a shower, had breakfast and then took the girls to the Katy Rice Festival. We got there just before noon where temps got up to 90 and the humidity didn't drop much if any. There was no shade and it was hot hot hot (that is until the rain came at 2pm). We ended up leaving around 4:30. So in that time 4-1/2 to 5 hours I did not sit at all.

By the time I got home I was exhausted. I couldn't even keep my eyes open to watch the end of the GT/BYU football debacle. I was in bed before 9:30 (this is super early for me).

Fortunately yesterday was an easy day. We got up for church I watched another football debacle in the Houston Texans, did some grocery shopping and cleaned the house. I feel pretty good now, especially after having a massage today to work on my lower back and legs.

I wonder how much I'm going to really want to do if anything at Disney on Sunday after the race. I have a feeling that I will want to do more just because it is Disney.

BTW, I read online a little bit about KT tape. Any experience? Did it help? I also saw that they offer KT taping at the expo. Are the lines usually long for this at the expo? Would this best be done on Saturday afternoon?

I use "KT tape" for my shin splints - had my chiropractor teach me how to tape. I put KT in quotes b/c I use rocktape brand. I think it sticks better. Put it on after a shower or using soap & washcloth to clean the area. I think you should do this hours before (I find if I tape the night before a long run it sticks best.)

Also my DH has been waylaid be a similar pain. My chiro thought it might be a patella problem, but my DH doesn't want to go to a Dr. so he hasn't run in 2 weeks in an attempt to rest and recover.

Good luck!!!

So I have decided to do a 10k to improve my coral placement. What do I have to have in hand at the expo to show proof of time? Do I need an official print out? I just want to make sure I have exactly what I need.

FYI: I don't know if anyone else has tried but I was able to print our waivers today.

The page with your results. Hopefully it will have the name of the race as well as the date and length. If unsure make sure to print the title page for the results as well.

Where do you get the Rock Tape? :confused3

All this talk of injuries reminds of this time last year on the thread when everybody seemed to be going through the same thing at this point in their training.
:goodvibes I was all ready to change my training plan not due to injury, but because I was starting to overthink my plan and got a case of the "what if's". :sad2: After talking over my concerns with my running friend who gave me the plan I've been following, it made sense why it's set up the way it is, and why it's important I STICK TO THE PLAN. :thumbsup2 My only "issue" is I have to figure out some way to try and get some speed work in in the next few weeks. The knees just do NOT want any part of that! :scared:

Listen everybody, it's perfectly normal to start feeling anxious about the mileage, whether or not you're really going to be ready in time, if you can actually run 13 whole miles. I know I felt all of that and then some last year, and it wasn't even my 1st half! :guilty: As I've said before...RELAX!![/..B] Get the freakouts out of your system now! Trust me when I tell you all will be fine. ::yes:: This race is nothing like you've ever experienced before (if this is your first runDisney event), and you don't want to miss the pixiedust: of it because you're so caught up in the details. This is FUN!!! Not the end of the world coming! :rotfl2: Take your time, trust your training and be like my Wonder Mutt...LIVE IN THE MOMENT. :cheer2:

Thank you for that!!!! I had a minor anxiety attack last night worrying I wasn't going to be ready in time since I had some injuries arise during training. At the end of the day I will be running my first half in Disney with my best friend, and what could be more exciting than that??

Woohoo back from NYC! I didn't wear a pedometer but I'm pretty sure I walked 1000 miles, or close to that :) I'm supposed to do my maintenance run tonight, I'm playing it by ear, my legs are a little tired from all that walking and 6 hours in the car. Glad to see everyone is back on track and training is going well.
See all if you soon!

You might be surprised at yourself. After walking around Disneyland last summer for 5 days, I thought for sure my runs would stink. Instead, they felt easier because my legs were well conditioned. Now the car ride, that might be a different story...

good luck! :)

Go out and run... Your legs may complain at first, but will thank you in 3+ weeks

Thanks for the encouragement, plutobaby! :)

Also, thanks to all of you who offered your experiences with KT(and other) tapes. My knee seems to be improving, so I'm hoping that taking it easy this week will help. I did my 30 min run yesterday without any trouble and did 40 min on the elliptical today. I'm hoping to do a long run this Saturday if my knee pain is gone.

I love seeing that some of you got in some DISTANCE over the weekend!
AWESOME!

Are you like me in that you're appetites are increasing right along with the mileage you're putting on the road? I can put down more food than my husband can these days. It is like I'm prego...but not. O.M.G. I'm like STARVING...all of the time. ESPECIALLY the day after the long run. Holy cow.

Another awesome side-effect of the long run is how nice/easy the shorter runs feel. I ran 4 today and it felt like I walk in the park. When I started running last May, 4 miles would have been tough to do without stopping. Today was a cake walk.

It is kind of amazing to see what your running body is capable of through training.

Long runs on my schedule:
10-11 this week.
8-9 next.
6 the following.
That's it! The big race!!!!!!
:cheer2:

I'm really getting excited. But life is busy - busy - busy.
Kindergarten Halloween Parties to plan.
Winter clothing drives at work to coordinate.
Large documents at work to scribe.
Engagement photo shoot on deck tonight.
:hourglass <-- just not enough in the day!

Anyone going the full 13 this week?
Good luck if so?
I'd imagine folks are starting to wean back a little bit now!

Welcome Home! Wait...isn't that what they say at the DVC's???:rotfl:

Oh yeah! :scared: Scale hasn't moved so much as an ounce! What's really weird is I'll be starving but as soon as I start eating, I'm full after just a few bites. Who knows? I'm a mess...:rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

Amen to THAT! :cool1:

Great advice, Pluto Baby. :thumbsup2

Well as I had noted my long run went great Saturday...until the blister I got has peel off and I have a good quarter sized "hole" on my foot. Ouch! I guess its better now than in a few weeks. :)

I came up with another question for those of you who ran this last year. Are all the food stands open for the after party or only select stands? I know exactly what I'm using at motivation for this run (pineapple fritters and dragon berry colada), but I just thought, what if that stand isn't open. As you can see I thinking of the very important things now. ;)
