The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

So I'm a few weeks ahead on my plan. I was already at 10K back in May, treaded water for awhile there and decided to push forward, mainly for weight loss, and am now planning a 9 miler on Saturday. :faint:

I might stop here though and hold steady. It's super hot here and in order to build any kind of mileage, I have to go early in the AM. Finishing a 9+miler by 7 AM will be hard. I have the DLR 10K coming up on 8/31 so by the time I get there, it'll be just another run.

Hard to believe that I've come this far. I remember my first day of my first C25K run in January, 2012 and I thought that 30 seconds was going to kill me! What a transformation!

Can't wait for that after party!

Yikes - not much running over the past couple months. I have been on the bike a lot and through a bunch of strength training. Trying to work through a left leg issue.

We're staying at a DTD resort (Royal Plaza). Last year one of our friends drove us to Epcot where we hopped on the bus to WWoS. This year we're just going to grab a taxi there and hop on the WWoS bus again. I don't know if CS is a host resort, but if not, just catch a bus to Epcot and you can get to the start from there. They have a ton of buses leaving every couple of minutes. :moped: We got there about 7:15ish last year and got to the start in plenty of time to hang out, get pics taken and let the nerves try and take over. :goodvibes

Sounds awesome - thank you so much!! :woohoo: Wow, I hear you about the nerves :hyper: Just when you think you didn't need another potty stop...:lmao: :rotfl2:

It's a plan... CSR here I come! :cool1:

Coach - Hoping you are feeling better soon! :goodvibes

Denice - You go girl! :cool1: 9 Miles! It is amazing how far we come when we put in the miles for training. Have a great time!

I think I am going to be ahead of schedule too. I am also doing the 10k and 1/2 for marathon weekend, but have decided to switch to the 10K and the marathon:scared1: I sent a email to runDisney. Almost hoping they don't email me back and it sells out! :lmao: Should just call them and get it over with. So in looking at the W&D and marathon training schedules they are about the same, just more miles for marathon. I will just use W&D as a 'training' run ::yes:::woohoo::rotfl2:

I met quite a few runners last year who did exactly that - used it as a training run for the full. You have to wonder if it almost wasn't planned that way??? :confused3

Hi guys! I'm new to running, been running for about a year but this will be my first 1/2, but not new to Disney. I'm curious how you plan your day since it's a night race. I see lots of advice online at various places telling folks how to plan for a morning event, but I'm at a loss for one that starts this late LOL!

I'm curious about meals especially, where are you eating the night before, day of, etc?

Been training regularly for a little over a month now. I'm up to 5miles on my long run. Super slow going with all this humidity, but I got a really nice short run in last night at a new local park. Can't wait!!!

Congrats to everyone who's started training!! Just think, you're almost one week closer to W&D! :yay:

Not sure about this, as W&D will be my first night half as well. :) But I do plan on doing some "dress rehearsals" at home. I think most people have a bigger lunch, but I'm pretty sure that won't work for me - right now I have an early dinner ADR the day of the race. So for a couple of my long runs in October I'm going to try my best to simulate that timing by eating my dinner early and then doing a night long run. If something doesn't work I'll readjust my plans. Just try to practice whatever you decide to do beforehand - you'll get advice from others on how to structure your day but what works for someone else may not be best for you.

Beyond that I'm running the 5K that morning so I'll definitely get a nap in at some point as well, and do my best not to walk around too much during the day. :)

Good job on your training! I'm in humid SC, so I feel the press of the humidity too.

The last two years that I participated in the nighttime race, I ate "supper" at about 4:30 or 5. I ate a smaller light meal before boarding the buses for the starting corral (6:45-ish) and then carried a protein bar with me. The wait between getting to the "staging area" and the start of the race is very long. I ate the protein bar before getting into the corral. ALL of the foods I consumed were tested, tested, tested... I also train at night sometimes so my body is used to it.

I'd like to hear what more experienced people do, as well!

:welcome:

Last year was my first one and it went pretty well foodwise. The night before I had a lousy meal at the Brown Derby (I think some kind of noodle dish??). On race day I had a good lunch around noon-1pm (grilled chicken salad and clam chowder), took a nap (or at least tried to unsuccessfully ), then had part of a turkey sub around 5pm. I was too hyped to eat much. Once I got to the start, I downed a protein bar around 9:30 or so. I was pretty hungry by the time I finished, so I think this year I'll try and eat a little bit more around 5-6pm. I don't think I'll be starting in the last corral this year, so as soon as I have an official start time, that will help determine when and what I eat. It will all be trial and error for you, but the key is to make sure you figure out what will work best for you BEFORE race night! :goodvibes

You need a 10k time for corral placement right? Do you know when Id need to submit it. I guess I should just go to the RunDisney site.

Getting ready to go for a 3-4 mile run shortly.

Much to the surprise of my doctor, the rapid strep test was negative. She was shocked because she said my throat looks terrible. She sent it out for a culture but started me on the antibiotic anyways.

I felt like crap yesterday between the sore throat, fever and headache so no running for me. I'm feeling better today, but of course I have to work all weekend plus Monday.

Hopefully, I will be back running again on Tuesday. Until then, I will just keep planning my Disney trips. I am getting really excited about going back to my AKV home after a three year absence.

Yuck - sorry about your throat. I have had so many throat infections over the years and after about 100 throat cultures I have never had a positive one. I used to get really bad tonsilitis frequently before I finally had my tonsils out in 2006.

I had a great 4 mile run last night. 36:55 minutes for 4 miles. Man was it hot out there though.

How bad is it to get a generic coral placement? How late will you start compared to the gun? I'm hoping to finish in 2-1/2 hours. I looked yesterday and I'd need a 10k time before 9-1-13 or I can bring it to the expo to have it changed? There is only 1 10k+ around Houston before 9-1-13. If I can do a race after that there are a few 10milers I might be interested in running in September or October but I'm not sure I would pay for the race if I can't use the time for coral placement or if it really doesn't make a huge difference for a runner planning on 2:30 half.

Hope you are feeling better soon! I have a sinus infection right now too and have zero energy:(. I had a sore throat tues, but went out anyway and did my run, now I am 10x worse and had to skip yesterday. :(. Maybe by tomorrow I can at least walk my 3 scheduled miles, so I don't get too far behind. I hate summer sickness-- it just is so not right, lol!!! I can't even blame this on my two year old, lol. Usually he gets 'daycareitis' and brings that home to everyone. This time it's all me, lol:)

Hope we both feel better soon!!!

Hope everyone else is doing well-- I really am enjoying everyone's posts here:)

For the wine and dine, instructions still say u can bring the proof of time to the expo. That is my plan too. With your speed, u might be best to do that so you can get ahead of us slower folks! Last years w&d had 6 corals that started about 5 min apart. I was in E with no proof and an estimated 3:00 finish. I finished closer to 2:45. Right at the beginning I followed a bunch of people running up on the left side of the grass and passed a bunch of walkers and that may have helped me get out of some congestion.

Good luck!

Ugh! I'm so sorry you are sick but glad it isn't strep. Is it tonsillitis? I had that for the first time this year. I hear it is on the rise in adults because so many still have their tonsils. How painful for you.

I did 3 miles this morning at 5:55 am and it was already pretty hot out. Yuck! Plan is to run down the trail that we are hiking this weekend, which is 3-miles and to rest on Sunday. I may just start my training plan this Monday instead of waiting until the following week since I'm feeling pretty good right now.

Anyone else run today? What are your weekend mileage plans?

Kristenrice - Hope you feel better soon. :thumbsup2

My plan is to run 4 miles tomorrow morning. I am following the marathon training schedule. I will be up early, probably around 6:30. During the week when I do my maintenance runs, I usually leave around 5:30. Love getting it out of the way nice and early, before some of the heat and humidity starts. :lmao:
