The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

9 would be amazing... My goal is always in the 10's and I am content with that and just adding miles

Just got done with the 8 miler. Whoa. It sucked and I should've started an hour earlier. But it's done and I don't hurt. Yet.

I have a 5 mile run for my Dumbo training (well, it supposed to be 3, the short run for the weekend after the long run but I'll go straight into marathon training after Dumbo and want 5 miles to be as easy for me then as 3 is now)

That's my logical as well. At least it was prior to my injury. Now I've got to get back up there. Mentally if figure if I can do an easy "5 mile short run" it makes that 10k distance less intimidating for proof of time races. hope it went well for u!

And thanks for all the well wishes on healing and faster times. But, I should clarify, that fast for me is only sub 10-minute miles. So, I ran 3.5
miles yesterday in under 35 minutes which, for me, is pretty great. I had been averaging 10:10 before my injury became acute. I'm neve going to be an exceptionally fast runner. If I can be a 9-minute miler someday, I'll be surprised and stoked :-)

I'd be shocked if I ever got to a 9min mile. My best is 10:30 for a short run and I'm much closer to 12 for distance. Honestly right now I'm pleased with that as long as I finish uninjured!

Good luck and Speedy healing!

Bravo! 8 is tough! Hang in there and go eat something!

Headed out shortly for my own run. I'm doing 2 measly miles today but it's 2 more than I was doing 3 weeks ago when I was hurt so I'll try not to whine. Then I'm going to the sports store to check out some new running clothes!

Exactly! And it wasn't horrible but it still isn't easy. In fact, my 6.5 miler last weekend felt easier and my pace was slightly quicker last weekend! I don't get it!

ooh! Shopping for running clothes is fun! Did you find anything?

I ended up buying some Capri tights and a tank that are waaaay too warm for running in right now but I'll be loving them come those last weeks before wine and dine and into princess training! I got a couple other tanks on sale that are really comfy and cute for now and then I tried on about 30 pairs of running shoes before settling on the brooks ghost 6. Can't wait to see how they feel on my next run!

I did 6 miles last night!!! My longest so far. I was slow but I don't care because I did 6 MILES!!! This is the first time I feel like I can actual finish the half and/or not die immediately after. If I do die, you are all invited to my funeral at Cindy's Castle :)
I was surprised it really wasn't that hard!? My lungs held out great, my legs were good, I was like Wow, I can do this. I smiled all the way home. I stopped a mile 4ish and did some yoga stretching, not sore today, just a little stiff.
Before my run I spent about 3 hours at the Mall looking for Father's Day gifts. I wonder if that slow walking around warmed up my legs?

Happy training, Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there and the single moms who pull double duty!
Melinda

Finished a 10k today! Wasn't a PR but the course has a TON of hills. Finished in 1:13 and change. Running the biggest loser 10k next month, hoping to get a good time to submit to Disney.

Btw- major chaffing issues today on my legs. This is the time it's been this bad. I like to run in the running skirts. Any suggestions! Sound like a good weekend had by all!

Congratulations! How thrilling for you to attain a new distance record. Sometimes everything just falls into place perfectly on a run and it sounds like you had one of those exceptional ones that keeps us all moving forward. Way to go!

Help a newbie.... What reason(s) are there for DH and I to try and run a 10k in order to get a proof of time? I'm not referring to training or the benefit of experience. I mean, how will it help us on race day if we have a 10K time?

If you want to run,and are fast,it will get you in a front corral. The corrals are based on your finish time. If you think you will finish under 2:45, submit a time a 10K time. Not sure how bad Wine and Dine is,but for Princess it was much needed, major crowding.

I wear either the Nike Skapri or the SkirtSports capris with attached skirt. They're for summer weather, so I don't find them to be hotter than shorts and no chaffing.

Just adding to what the PP said, if you don't submit a time you will most likely be placed in the last corral. The corrals start every 5-7 minutes, so you could be looking at an additional 30+ minute wait to start running after the elites/Corral A get going. This gives you less of a cushion ahead of the sweepers and less time at the after party.

Corral placement is meant to help people run near those that are at a similar pace (see course crowding referenced by the PP...read any reports from this year's WDW and/or Princess Half for examples). I HIGHLY recommend submitting a time to Disney.

Have you tried Body Glide? I use the stuff for girls and I use it for every run anywhere I have rubbing to include my feet, ankles, inside of my arms and legs. No chaffing, ever. Love that stuff. :thumbsup2

It looks like I will have to starts looking for a 10K to run. I "run" at about a 12:30-13:00 pace so I doubt I'll finish under 2:45. DH has run 13 miles before and he is planning on running the whole distance. I'm hoping to either do a "run 3/walk 2" for the whole thing, or just run the first 6-7 miles and then walk/run from there.

I prefer to run alone and just get lost in my music so it will be interesting to see how I do in a crowd:)

Another vote for Body Glide! :thumbsup2 It helps a lot!

I'd also maybe look into a different kind of running skirt? Do the shorts on yours ride up? The only running skirts I like are Sparkle Skirts Sparkletechs...they are pricey but the shorts DO NOT MOVE, thus no chafing. Worth every penny, and the pockets are so fantastic that I don't even need to run with a fuel belt. I ran this year's WDW Marathon wearing one and was totally fine...the only places I had chafing were spots around my rib cage where my bra had slipped and I missed with the Body Glide. :(

I submitted a 10-mile time with an average pace of 12:00/mile for the Princess Half in 2011 and was placed in Corral C (with D, E and F behind me) and was incredibly shocked to be that high...I submitted a bit faster of a time (maybe 5 seconds/mile faster?) for the marathon in 2012 and was in D. It really depends on how many other people submit times, I think...so you never know where you'll be placed. If you aren't planning on running with your husband it sounds like corral placement will really be a benefit to him as well. You have plenty of time to send something to runDisney...:)
