The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

WOW! That is a great distance CamColt. :thumbsup2 I guess we can all except some battle scars after our long races. ;) I am supposed to go 7 miles today, my longest distance yet.

Thanks!!! I hope your 7 went well. :cheer2:

For those with injuries....pixiedust: There is nothing worse than when you can't run. Hopefull you can heal up and get back out there.

Due to the F&W we are only booking 1 meal, Shulas for Monday night so tomorrow will be my booking date. Can't wait!

I just went to the dentist and was talking to the girl about trips. Then it hit me that by the time I go there again, this will be over with. This is going to come so fast now!!!!:faint:

We booked the Swan today. Hoping that Disney extends the current military promotion so that we can switch over the Boardwalk or Yacht Club but I feel much better knowing we have a room and that we are over in the area of Disney that we like best.

Also went ahead and got a physical therapy referral for my ongoing disc issues. I can still run but I am definitely not at 100% and I want to avoid any major injury that would cause a total disruption in training like what happened last summer before ToT. I do not want to run another race with only a month of training :)

Less than 6 months away woohoo!!

Need some advice - this will be my first half so I have no idea how I'll feel the next day. We are staying until Tuesday so have Sunday and Monday to enjoy the parks. I'm trying to decide which day would be best to enjoy the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot. I hope to enjoy as much of the food and adult beverages that I can :cool1: Whichever day we don't do Epcot we'll probably go to Hollywood Studios. No kids this trip so won't spend a ton of time at MK, although we are going to MVMCP on Friday.

Between crowds and soreness I can't decide what to do on Sunday. Whichever day we don't do Epcot I'll need to figure out another dinner ADR.

We are doing F&W on Sunday... I feel better the next day if I continue to move around. And if I'm sore, it won't be anything that a few drinks and yummy food won't cure! :)

Once you get to your longer runs, you'll have a better idea of what works for you... I know that doesn't help with ADRs now though!

I am. This is a solo trip for me

Is anyone traveling by themself? Could not get my friends to sign up so I would really like to make a new friend or two while I'm out there!

:banana:MEEEEEE! signed up yesterday before it was full. Bought plane ticket, reserving a room at the FQ, I think, and now trying to figure out how to keep my business going while I maintain the addiction I am acquiring (also doing DL 10K in August and the Dopey in January....

So, solo running women of Wine & Dine, UNITE!!!

It'll be a toss up as to which is less crowded. That is one downfall of moving the race to the last weekend of Food and Wine, which coincides with a federal holiday thereby creating a long weekend for a fair number of folks.

I posted a few posts back that I joined the 'half-crazies'. :rotfl:

I'm Leslie. :wave2: This will be my first Half-Marathon. If I were to run this race TODAY, it would be my first formal race.

I am a Turbofire (by Beachbody) graduate. I just finished the program. :thumbsup2 I decided to test my running legs, and what do you know??? I ran 3 miles without stopping. I've been running for a few weeks now, consistently clocking 8:30-9:30 splits on my 3-4 mile jogs. I've yet to tackle anything longer, yet my marathon-running SIS and Disney-race-running SIL talked me into the Wine & Dine b/c we're already planning on being in WDW during this timeframe. OMG, I was so nervous as I hit the submit button on my registration. But alas, here I am. I'll be 35 when I run this race and I've got a super-awesome little girl who is almost 5. :lovestruc

I'm kind of following the Jeff Galloway plan, but not really as I started jogging before I really knew who he was and didn't know about the run/walk thing. I guess I'm kind of doing my own thing. I am trying to do the three-to-four per week with one longer run on the weekends. I've been getting three of four miles in during my lunch break...about two or three times/week. I work in an urban setting near a spot meant for walkers/joggers/bikers. It is PERFECT for squeezing out 3 - 4 miles! No cars!!!!! Weekends will be the longer runs...and will have more logistics - having to make sure that my husband is around to tend to our daughter/etc.

I'm HOPING to get a 10k in before the race. I think that I read that is enough to get you a spot outside of the last corral. Seasoned racers, do you know if that is correct?

Leslie, welcome to the half crazies! :wave2: So glad you are going to join us.

8:30 - 9:30 is awesome! :thumbsup2 I am not that fast....but that's ok because I am out there! ;) I just started running in January when a friend told me about Disney races. I have ran a 5K, a 5M, a 10K, this weekend I have a 8M and 10K scheduled and my first 1/2 is going to be June 9. It is sponsored by The Biggest Loser. 22 minute mile, I think I can handle that and see how these legs will do in a 13.1 mile run. :lmao:

Yes from what I have read a 10K should be ok for corral placement.

Aren't all little girls awesome??! ;) I have a 5 year old DS and 6 year old DD

Hey CamColt. Umm....I did not do the 7 like I wanted to. :scared: It was raining and I had no desire to go out, but figured I better. :faint: I did 4.65 miles which was 4.65 more miles I wanted to do in the rain :rotfl: It got to be more of a mental thing for me and I kept thinking what if it rained during one of my races. Better get used to it. So not the original 7, but still better than nothing. I will make up for it with my 8M race this weekend. ::yes::

Leslie - Those are some great numbers for just getting into "the running thing". Hubby and I are sort of 'on again off again' P90X peeps, and during the off times I am a runner/gym weights lover. I like to change up my routine because the fitter and more healthier I have become, the harder it is to get rid of that last pesky 20 lbs. Darn it.

Karen - Hi! Nice to see another Oregonian on here. I was hoping to do the DL Dumbo Double this year but didn't get registered in time. Oh well, at least I get my Disney fix with the W&D. When are you flying in and out? We red eye on Thursday and then depart Sunday AM for a week long Eastern Caribbean cruise that night on HAL.

YAY to everyone that is able to get out a run, no matter how many miles ya'll are able to get in. I hope to put on some miles myself this evening. I have been having some annoying and lingering pain in my right shin area and KT tape has helped so I want to get back on the horse. My last run was Friday evening where I ran a 5K on the treadmill in 30 minutes. I was happy with the time this early in my training but have been resting the leg for the last 4 days and I dont like going that long between runs.

And thanks to whoever for bringing up the whole ADR thing. I should totally book some fav places before things get too full. I don't even have our room ressie yet. I suppose I should do that soon too.... It's tough when by the time I think about do it, it's already too late in the day Florida time. ACK!

Less than 6 months! I love the idea of getting a custom shirt. I kinda want to wait until I know if I am preggo or not so that I can wear a "running for two" top. :)

I am flying in on Thursday, no red eye for me, just buttcrack of dawn departure and arrival in Orlando approx. 6 p.m. (ya can't get there from here (very southern Oregon, Kfalls) without leaving a day before you need to be there.....I leave Monday at 3 p.m. (again, the only way IN to my fair city is to arrive at the opposite of o'dark thirty....9:40 plane and arrival from either PDX or SFO at 11:15 p.m., so gonna make the most of the day....

I saw that you were cruising....so jealous. Would love to get on a ship and keep going -- someplace warm!!

I am staying, I think, at the Port Orleans FQ. Kinda depends on whether I can talk any of my family into coming to be cheerleaders (most of my immediate family lives in South Carolina. My kids are all West Coast and two are doing the 10K Disneyland with me. :cheer2:

Hi Leslie :wave2: and :welcome: to the Crazy Club! I started the TurboFire program but just HATE working out at home. What I did do of it kicked my butt though. It's a GREAT workout! :thumbsup2

I'll be running my first run in 2 months next week so I'm a little nervous. :scared: I still get occasional twinges in that darn IT band, but I've started going back to the chiro, so I'm helping she can help. Plenty of time to get ready for November. ::yes:: This time around I'm going to make sure to increase my distance SLOWLY, a problem I always have controlling, especially when I'm feeling good. ::yes:: So to all my injured Half Crazy BFF's out there, let's stick together, commiserate together, and have one big ice party after we cross that darn finish line, however long it takes all of us! :thumbsup2party:

Hi all,

This is my first post here, I signed up for the site last November because I've been planning to do this race for that long and I wanted to book a DVC resort when the time came! I asked to be emailed when registration opened and there must have been an error, because it never did. I just realized yesterday that the registration is sold out. I'm devastated, I've been training since January and have my heart set on this race. It's on my 27th birthday and it has been my plan for so long. Does anyone know if extra numbers ever come out, or if people sometimes sell them if they can't make the race? I want to do this race SO badly. It would be my first half, too!

Try booking through get travel they probably still have spots available

I think we've talked training plans before? But the Run Disney Facebook page post got me thinking and researching. I think I'm going to use the Hal Higdon Novice 2 plan now that I've looked over a few different plans. Anyone else going to use this plan so that we can be training accountability buddies? I'm going to start next week and then loosely follow it at first to accommodate our summer travel schedule. I'll really buckle down and start following the exact schedule in August. Here's the plan I am going to use if anyone else is interested:

Plutobaby this is my problem too! I battle chronic shin splints and I thought it was my shoes but after a really thorough study of my running log and some research on individual base mileage thresholds, I think it's actually just a case of "TMTS" or "TFTS" (too much too soon or too fast too soon). So I'm trying to go into this training period with the following rules:

1. SLOWLY build mileage.
2. NO SKIPPING CROSS TRAINING!

It's gonna be hard to stay disciplined but we can do it! I know there have been times when I've gone to run and wanted to go faster and I have to keep telling myself "Nope. The ENTIRE point of this run is to train yourself to control that impulse!"

My problem too! I have to be careful to slowly build distance and not try to do speed and distance at the same time. I think I will do the Jeff Galloway program- it seems like it will fit my schedule and get me to where I need to be.

We have to think about a meet-up!! Anyone have any ideas? We are there such a short time - what about picking a country to meet in for a drink AFTER the race, would that work? I suggest Canada, it is close to the finish line! Lol!
