The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

I use RunKeeper and really love it. Happy to grow my street team, if anyone wants. My username there is OregonGirl.

Since I am from Oregon a 10 PM start for me is like 7 PM which is typically when I am running or have just finished running anyway. I think I actually prefer the night run because of that.

As far as the after party goes, I was there two years ago (2011) and there were a fair amount of people in the World Showcase drinking booze. DH and I don't drink alcohol (I know - why am I running a WINE & dine then, lol?) so we stood in line to get my medal engraved and then rode Ellen's Energy Adventure (not my first choice but we had 2 other couples we were vacationing with). I wanted to do Test Track after but I was so tired with hurting legs that we just decided to bail.

That my was first half EVER and I have since done 2 others and have been consistently training so I hope that my endurance is better and I can tough it out a little longer. We didn't get to see any of the food offerings in World Showcase and I would have liked to. I submitted proof of time of 2:29 and am hoping I get Corral C or thereabouts so I can finish shortly after midnight.

Of course, if I am pregnant by then (we're actively trying) the race will have different goals and things will change.

Here's a general question for anyone who might have "fallen off the wagon" just a little. I did give myself nearly a 6 month break from consistently running and now I am back to about 5 miles a day but my time for that route is about 10 minutes longer than it once was. How long do you all think it will take me to get back up to my faster pace if I continue to do my 5 miles a day (with probably a rest day or two each week)?

- Carey

If it is like ToT in terms of corral placement, I would guess you to be in Corral C or maybe B.

Good luck with the baby-making! We spent 4 years TTC our first. I hope you are expecting by race time :)

I would aim to do 1 distance run to increase endurance each week and then do 2+ shorter speed training workouts if you are looking to improve your time. I have a plan I found online that I've used to increase my speed. It called for 3 speed training runs per week. It was a grueling schedule for me to keep, but I found that I did see improvement in my times.

2-1/2 miles tonight. I did 3-1/2 on Monday. Mommy goal is to do 2-5 miles every other night until June. Then I will start rebuilding mileage again. I am nowhere close to half marathon shape right now, but I am pretty sure I can get back there by November.

This is mirroring my plan as well........ only I'm building mileage closer to end of June/July I think......... (there is no re-buiding... I never got there before!) :)

DS and I were listening to the Illuminations music today in the car and I thought - wouldn't it be cool if they actually did Illuminations at say, 2 or 2:30am after the race? The music is SO inspiring and celebratory. I think I'd probably start bawling my eyes out after such an emotional achievement. It would be a nice reward to look forward to as well as a money maker because even more people would probably stick around and eat and drink while waiting for it to start.

Are you listening Rundisney???? :thumbsup2

YES! I completely agree with you. Add to that the Christmas tag with Walter Cronkite and the Harlem Boys Choir and I would be a puddle!

And I thought I was the only Disney Dork who had that CD!:cool1: But how many of you know the words (or at least make a good attempt and making up the words) to that entire soundtrack? Oooh, ooh, I do, I do!!:rotfl::lmao:

I have to be careful, I start to recreate the dances from the Tapestry of Nations parade. Sort of gets stuck in your head when you go to watch your significant other perform almost nightly. (Ah, the good old day of being a CP.)

:blush:I'm going to 'fess up... Last year I set my playlist up so that when I finally entered Epcot, the Remember the Magic parade music from the 25th anniversary Magic Kingdom celebration was playing. How's that for Disney Dorkiness???? But it worked. DH said I blew past him with a huge smile and it turned out to be my fastest segment.... after 2 1/2 hours of running. :rotfl2:

If that's not disney magic, I don't know what is...

I have a song on my playlist called "Top of the World", and one of the main lines is "Feeling like I'm sitting on too of the world"... It happened to come on as I was running through the castle during the Donald - gave me quite the adrenaline rush!

OMG that is too funny! And now I'm going to steal that idea! I have the music from the Millenium celebration on my Ipod, I'll just have to make sure I hit it when we get to DHS. Those last couple of miles were the toughest.::yes:: Think I'll make up name tag stickers that all say "Proud to be a Disney Dork" and hand them out before the start.:lmao:

Think I better catch up though, that's the only Mickey music I have. Oh, the horror!!!!:faint::scared1:

My latest "get your butt moving girl" song is "I'm the World's Greatest" by R. Kelly. I heard while watching one of the YouTube videos for the Marathon. Some guy videotaped the whole race as it was his wife's first full. It was so sweet! I was in tears just watching it. The ultimate on Dork-dum...

Just have to share, today I registered my DD8 and DD9 for a local 5k :) they recently did the 8k in Va Beach St.Pats weekend, but they came to me for this one :) better yet, they got friends to run it with them.
So excited that they are getting into this now and not waiting until they are in their 30s like I did.

That's awesome! My soon-to-be 5-year-old wants to do the mile kids race in November but I'm not sure that she's up for the training. Right now she can do about 600m on the track with me and I don't want to push her to train at her age.

I am so excited to have just found this thread. My husband and I are both signed up for the W&D. I ran my first half at the PHM in Feb. and couldn't wait to to another Disney race.

FINALLY signing up to run with DH this week!!! Last thing I need to figure out it what size shirt to order. I ran the PHM in Feb, and I got a medium. It fits PERFECTLY!! Not too tight - not too loose. Great to wear as much I want to got out and announce to the world that I DID IT!!! Which is a lot ;)

But as I understand it W&D isn't going to be a female tapered shirt like the Princess. So what size would you suggest that I order? My shirt doesn't fit right for my Publix Half, and if this happens to a Disney run - I don't think I could handle it!!!

Thanks!!

I got the small last year and it's just loose enough without looking baggy. I think they're all men sizes so you can bet on them running a bit larger.

This made me LOL! :rotfl2:

As I'm thinking more and more about this, I'm coming up with more questions for you pros. How many corrals are there? How much time is there between each corral?

DH and I are doing a 10K this weekend to try to get an "official time", to hopefully not be in the last corral. What do you need for proof of time? I know they said to send an email with the info but do they just take your word for it or do you need some documentation?

I think they just may check the time you give them. They can go and look up the race results you supply them, but I'm not sure.:confused3 I didn't submit a time last year so I started in Corral G (last one). I think that's the max amount of corrals as they cut off registration at 14,500(?). At least I'm pretty sure that's what it was last year. I submitted at 1:02 10k time this year so I'm thinking maybe C or D. Can anyone who had close to that entry time last year tell us where you started???

The corrals are spaced 5 minutes apart with the first one starting right at 10pm. I give runDisney alot credit on this. They start right on time and once that first one goes, the rest move up quickly. And for those in the back, you get just as much excitment and fireworks as the first!:dance3:

The best thing I think though, is just before you get to the start, there's a big opening right next to the porta-potties. Helps with any last minute nerves!:lmao: Otherwise, you may end up running the fastest first mile time of your life!:rotfl2::rotfl:

Oh! For those of you on the WISH FB page, the new WISH items sale is up and running! If you go to the DIS Boards WISH team, it takes you to a link which you can then order from. They've got singlets, hoodies, jackets, all kinds of good stuff! I already have my custom t-shirt for the race but I plan on sporting my neon green WISH jacket around the parks. Uh-huh, lookin' good! Lol!

Hi there,

I was hoping to get your opinions to help with planning our next family vacation:

I would like to do either the Wine and Dine Half Marathon or the Disney Half in January. We're looking into taking our first Disney cruise(first cruise ever too) at the same time. :cheer2:

Here's where I need your advice/experiences:
Would it be better to book a cruise before or after the race? DH thinks I might be too tired and beat up to enjoy our first cruise if I'm coming fresh off the race.

Has anyone cruised before or after a Disney half or full marathon? Can you share your experiences?

Thanks,
Jennifer
