The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Just curious if anyone has booked room-only reservations with a runDisney discount. I have a rate of about $50/night over at the Fairfield on 192 but I'd prefer to be on-site if I can get a room under $100/night. If not, I'll stay off site.

When I checked prices, even the quote I received for the value resort only,1 night, was well over 100 a night.

Did you eat anything before you ran? Did you eat anything during your run? Did you drink anything during your run?

Shame on me - no I didn't eat or drink anything during my run. I've just run 2-3 miles so never really needed anything. I've been running outside and didn't want to carry a water bottle. I've been looking at hydration belts but they are more expensive than I thought they'd be. Any recommendations? If I'm going to spend the money I want to get a good one. Thanks for all of the responses!

A fellow WISHer and friend, Frank, doesn't like to carry water bottle either. Nor does he like hydration belts. He runs a route that loops past his house. He puts a bottle of water in his mail box and drinks some as he passes.

Sometimes I run through a park that has water fountains, but I have a off brand Camel Pack I bought a couple years ago for if I don't run where there is a fountain.

I have a Nathan hydration belt, just two bottles. Bought mine on Amazon i believe it was 30 something.I swore I'd never wear one,but I wore it for Princess and it fit super well, and I was thankful I had it. It has a small pouch too.

Value is 135.68 with tax and moderate is 152.00 I just called to double check.

Rack rate for All Stars is still listed as $125.80 (including tax) online for 11/8-11. I don't know why the runDisney "discount" would add $10 that...

I have no idea either those are the rates the rundisney lady just told me though.

I don't like the hydration belts or carrying anything either, but I found that I'm comfortable with carrying a water bottle, as long as I drink a bit out of it at the beginning of my run, then squeeze the air out. This makes it flatter in the middle and more manageable for me!

I never liked having to carry anything either, but the longer I go, the more it becomes unavoidable::yes::. Like Frank, I either makes loops through a local park or past my house. I finally broke down last year though and bought a four bottle hydration belt. Here's the link to company I used. After alot of research, they were the cheapest, fastest, and the belt is great! It's a velcro close so you can adjust to where you need it to sit and it doesn't sneak up on you. :scared1:

Just wanted to add myself to the list!

I'll be staying at Bay Lake Tower. This will be my second time running the Wine & Dine Half Marathon - it's my favorite runDisney event to date!

Shelley:

I don't carry a hydration belt even on my long 10 mile run. ANYTHING in my stomach gives me cramps and I have to be careful not to eat or drink anything at least an hour prior to my run or the same problem happens.

That said, I DO make sure I have had a nice protein rich lunch if I plan on a long afternoon run. I DO carry some Cliff Shot Gels or Blocks with me to suck on around mile 6 or so. I DO use a foam roller when I get home because it makes a surprising difference in the following hours on my legs and back. I DO make sure to get enough rest the night following a long run.

I'm not saying "don't get a hydration belt" because I know a lot of people love them. But they're not for me and so I try to prepare myself prior to and after a run.

Chris:

Hi! My second W&D too, and also my favorite. After having run the Princess and the Disneyland Half I thought maybe it won't be anymore, but it by far is. Maybe its the evening time? Maybe its the course route? Maybe it holds a special place as my very first half ever? I dunno.

I hope to stay at the Poly. Just a quick two night and then off on a week long cruise to celebrate!

ALL:

Anyone have any advice on 'barely there' knee braces? I wear compression bands on my lower legs which have really helped with shin splits, and want to find something that well help with knee aches as well.

Race belt, hate it, but have to use it for long runs, 15+ when training for ironman.
I am like Frank and plan a loop that passes water, my house, the park with a fountain, a local college with fountains.

Now when I am really feelin good, I have a loop that is about 6 miles, 3 miles to a private club, 2 beers and 2 waters, then back home. This is good training for the bar to bar 5ks.

Got a race report up pretty early this time around, please check it out:

I swear by KT tape. It's supportive without being restricting or irritating. I use it on my left knee (I've got a patellar subluxation thing going on) for long training runs and all races. They've got easy to follow application videos on their website, or you can request a custom application more suited for you. It's amazing stuff.

I apologise, I'm sure this has been covered. I'm not doing the wine n dine until 2014, but just trying to get my ducks in a row. If I want to rent points for BLT what date should I be calling to do that? Thank you!

Did anyone else register through gettravel? I registered with them a week before registration opened, and I still have not gotten a confirmation through active and when I look to see if I'm registered it says I'm not found
I also have not heard from get travel either... and it is starting to really annoy me. I booked thru them because I was away and didn't have reliable internet access. I didn't want to run the risk of the race being sold out before I returned to "civilization". I want my run Disney confirmation so I can buy my park tickets.

I think it's the combination for me too: I usually run after work (I'm NOT a morning person!) so I like the evening time for a race. It's fun having the F&W booths to run to. But the course is AWESOME! Right in the middle, when you're just getting tired, you go through Animal Kingdom. And then at the end, you have lots of exciting stuff from Hollywood Studios, through to the Epcot resorts, then Epcot and the finish!

A celebration cruise sounds great! I haven't done a Disney cruise yet, but it's on my to-do list!

I did room only for 1 night and while its a hefty discount, it's no where near that price. We prefer to walk out back of EPCOT to our hotel after the party.

I've not called anyone to rent points, its all been DIS based or David's Vacation Club rentals when I have rented. But you can contact someone as early as 11 months prior if they are an owner at BLT. Up to seven months ahead of time if they are not an owner at BLT. If BLT is a must I would search out BLT owners in the 8-11 month time frame prior to your reservation.

I used GET Travel for the Tink in 2012. They weren't always speedy with communication but in the end I didn't have any issues. It can't hurt to give the agent who is handling your reservation an e-mail or a call to see what's up.
