The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Also, in general I did NOT see a lot of sick people at wine and dine last year. Medical tents were very empty as I passed them on the course. It was a very nice temperature in my opinion 50-55 and no sun helps! :)

Last year's Wine & Dine was not as bad as the first Wine & Dine and last year's ToT 10-miler. The fiasco in 2010 with cramming all the runners into the front of the World Showplace pavillion to wait 45-60 minutes (at least the middle-of-the-pack runners) to claim their bags led to lots of people feeling dizzy, sick, & pukey.

We officially signed up this weekend. This will be the fourth W&D for Mike and I. Our DS (who is a graduate student) will be joining us.

I enjoy this race so much more than the morning Disney races. :goodvibes

I agree, I thought the temps last year were great. :) I think the race has gotten better every year and I am really looking forward to this year's race!

Ran the Broad Street Race in Philly today. BEAUTIFUL day! The course is a straight line down Broad Street- 10 miles. Map my run said I did 10.46 in 1 hr 49 minutes. Thrilled at that time since my W&D last Nov was 3 hours (but we stopped and took tons of pictures.

It was nice to know that I can still do it :cool1: since Nov I have only run about 1x a week and maxed out at 6 miles only 2x

That's awesome!!!

I have to report in here because I am so excited right now! :cool1: DH and I did the 10K in 54:18. Thinking realistically, I was hoping for 62 minutes tops but was really hoping for 58-59 minutes. I never expected 54:18! :faint: I did get a cramp at the 5th mile but knew I was doing well so I just pushed to finish. I actually felt fine by the end.

One thing I learned from this is I seem to have a lot more motivation and energy when running a race instead of running alone.

Congrats!!! What an accomplishment! :)

For those of you who have done this, what do you do for meals this day? I'm thinking a bigger, early lunch, hopefully have an afternoon nap, and then just a snack around dinner time. I am use to running first thing in the morning with nothing in my stomach so this night run is totally different for me.

Since the majority of my runs are after work, the start time really wasn't that big a deal. I think I had a croissant that morning, then a chicken pasta salad around 1:30. Went back to the room and tried to sleep but was too amped up. I ended up having a small turkey sub around 5 and a protein bar around 9pm. With a few Honey Stingers throughout the race, I was fine the rest of the night. I always drink a lot of water anyway, so hydration wasn't really even an issue. But like everyone says, figure it out BEFORE race time! It's better to have puked at home on a training run than during the race!:faint:

I just ran a 10K here in my town and it kinda sucked! :-(. Rain, cold, and a weird ankle strain all conspired for a disappointing race.

I, however, was not last. So I got that going for me.

It's still a long way to 13.1.

You started and you finished. That's all that counts! :thumbsup2

I am a night runner so I practiced this pretty often. I eat a decent breakfast - carbs and protein, and a turkey sandwich lunch and a small snack about an hr before i run. I run usually around 7-8pm. So for the wine and dine last year I just shifted things up about 2-3 hrs and had breakfast at 11ish, my sub sandwich around 5-5:30, and took a small snack w me to wwos. This worked really well, along with following Jeff galloways prehydration tips for the day before and day off. Also, try to remember to stay hydrated during the course and plan some recovery food for after. During training my favorite is actually chicken and soft pretzels. (and sometimes a little beer).

:thumbsup2

Camcolt - that is awesome! :thumbsup2 I did a 10K this weekend and did not get as good as a time as you did!;) Congrats! :yay:

Awesome Time! Congrats! :cool1:

Thanks, guys!

dlbwright, you did it though...and thats better than what a lot of people did this weekend. Congrats! :thumbsup2 Honestly, 6 months ago, I had never run more than 3.7 miles, so anyone who can do any kind of long distance really impresses me, no matter what the time. :worship:

Congrats, DCbride. That is a great time! :thumbsup2

CamColt - Thanks. 6 months ago running was not even on my radar. Never liked it. Then a friend introduced me to this little thing called runDisney:p and now I am hooked and training for 5 1/2 marathons. ;) I will never be the fastest on the course, but I'm out there. :thumbsup2

Jenn - :lmao:

Funny what Disney will do to us. :)

Oh and I forgot to note at the 10K yesterday I spotted 1 Disney 2013 Marathon shirt, and 1 Wine and Dine shirt. THAT got me motivated. :yay:

Fantastic time! So wonderful that you smashed your goal time too.

Congrats! This is something I needed to read today since DH signed me up for a 10k on Mother's Day. The most I have run since November is 4-5 miles and the longest run I've done this year was 4 miles on Saturday so I am feeling very apprehensive and out of shape. DH just said it would do me good to jump back into it with a fun female-only run so now I am going to have an anxiety-filled week trying to run a little farther before Sunday.

I need to remember this. My 10K on Sat was a little disappointing but I need to keep in mind if I'm not in it to win it (which I will NEVER be), then I'm just in it to finish it.

I felt so great yesterday after the Broad Street Run :cool1:

Today :sad2: waist down EVERYTHING hurts!! Walking down steps - I look like I am 100. Everyone at work was pretty much in the same boat. But, it makes me wonder if I should really sign up for the Feb Princess race of the 10K on Sat and the Princess Half on Sunday. I know that 6 is less than 10 miles, :rotfl2: but the thought of running 2 today let alone 13.1 - not happening!!

( this is where someone says something encouraging about training and I can do it)

Let me be the first to say you absolutely can!!! We are 9 1/2 months away, so you have plenty of time to train for the 2 races. So far you've gone farther than a lot of us, I'm sure (me for certain!). Yeah, you're sore today, but you did it! :)

Just stay positive, keep saying "I think I can", which will turn into "I know I can", which will become "I did it!!"... And remember - DLF>DNF>>DNS! :)

Denice, that is how I keep trying to think of it. I guess I will just lay it out there. :scared: I was 175 out of 179 for the 10k. I finished in 1:13:30. Their official pace for me was 11:48, but I think my Nike app was a little under that. I was really upset with myself doing so bad. But I have never been a runner. I started in January at 40 1/2 years old. But that is what I keep telling myself. I am never going to win and that is ok. But I am out there, while a lot of my family thinks I am crazy and they won't walk let alone run. I actually like your quote too, I'm just in it to finish it. That is my new motto! :thumbsup2

DCBride, I second what Jenn said. We have plenty of time to train. You can do it! It is a mental game you have to play with yourself. I do it all the time. Tell yourself you can and you CAN. If you think you can't you are probably right. So I am telling you YOU CAN! :thumbsup2
