The Oasis To Open Early

The one time ever we made rope drop at AK (pre kids) this is how I remember it working.

Sounds similar to when they used to let Guests into DAK early and hold them at the ToL until "The Adventure Begins".

A quote:
"The park frequently has long backups of guests at the turnstiles before opening, and allowing guests to enter through the turnstiles before the park opens should help to stagger arrivals and reduce congestion. " (Bolded mine.)

To the contrary, having an interior "holding area" (the Oasis) will contribute to a SINGLE RUSH "arrival" when they finally open the rest of the park.
This is one big reason that they stopped having an internal rope drop at DAK, DHS and Epcot a couple of years ago.

This kind of "holding area" opening means that thousands of guests will have already scanned into the park, crushed together near the "ropes" and will be ready to bolt as a mass of humanity when they drop the ropes… half heading to Everest, the rest heading to Safari.
(They reinstated the internal holding area at DHS when they offer the "Frozen rope drop show" there... along with the expected RUSH of guests to TSM when the "show" ends and the rope drops.)

Very strange that they are doing this at DAK.
It is likely just to allow uninformed guests to pre-book FP+ before park opening time
(which could also be a grand mess as the kiosks, and CMs helping, could easily be overwhelmed by the crush of early-arriving guests filling the Oasis area.)
It is also likely that they will have CMs in position to "walk" the masses of guests back to the major attraction destinations.

As an Animal Kingdom lover, I'd love to be able to show up and see the animals/birds in the Oasis before opening. The only problem is that I won't be there until October, so I'm really hoping that they extend the test until then.

I agree that it won't really stagger the people, but it will help with the congestion at the entrance to AK. I like it better when you can enter and wait in the park. At least you have already gone through the whole bag check and tapstile process...

I liked it how it was last time I went, they actually let us into the whole park at like 8:40/8:45, so we could go line up at our favs before it opened at 9......it seems that it would be better to have guests more spread out for the opening than all crushed together....

Exactly!

I have the feeling that this new "test" has been ordered by someone who has not been privy to the former body of evidence of the previous many years of problems doing it this "new" (old) way.

Yes, that is even better. Just let folks in that got there early, to roam where they wish, with the park operational...

This starts now? I will be there in 2 weeks to test it out. :)

Review would be much appreciated, please. Especially the "availability" of seeing animals/birds. The poster above, who questioned how many would be out and about, had a very good point.
