Our plans changed and we ended up starving at Downtown Disney at 3:30 pm one day. We couldn't find anyplace still serving lunch so we ended up at a place whose door we had vowed to never darken again because of rude, pretentious service. Fulton's!
I am SOOOOO glad we gave this place another chance! We started our meal with beautifully presented salads that each looked kind of like a giant rose. They use a huge red cabbage shell for the outside of the "rose" and the greens are swirled around inside with some other garden veggies on there for color. I believe the dressing was something like a yogurt/ raspberry or something like that. Very good--but I did find that I added quite a bit of salt to perk up the flavor. DH and I couldn't make up our minds so we decided to share an order of the Queen Charlotte Dungeness Crab Cakes and the Grilled Alaskan Salmon entree. I know that everyone has a different taste in crab cakes but we weren't too impressed with these. The mustard sauce was white and creamy and didn't seem to compliment them too well. The salmon, on the other hand, was the most perfect piece of fish I have ever put into my mouth. DH said, "Honey, this is just like the salmon I had in Alaska that I have been telling you about for years!" He knew I thought I'd died and gone to heaven so he let me finish it. I have been reading about the huge difference between Atlantic salmon and Alaskan salmon and now I see it for myself. ( I have had Artist Point's Pacific Salmon and that should taste the same as Alaskan--but this was so much better. Just incredible! I don't know what if anything Fulton's did to make it taste so good-- but my goodness...)
The older kiddos had the adult fish and chips and the younger kids had the kids portions of the same. The were very happy with their meals. The older guys don't like coleslaw so mom ended up with some of that. Wonderful!
Now, to the best part of the meal. Dessert. DH and a couple of the boys had the peanut butter cheesecake with brownie crust. My 16 year old, the cheesecake expert, declared it the best he's ever tasted. My DH loved his until he tasted my dessert. I ordered the milk chocolate creme brulee. Oh, my! Do they ship to Texas? I dream about this dessert. My 13 and 15 year olds ordered it as well and dad was able to make a trade. The 13 year old will never let him forget the sacrifice he made to dad in giving up that dessert!
The service was not Mickey Mouse friendly but we were well taken care of. I'm telling you even Cruella DeVille herself waiting on me would not stop me from going back to Fulton's for more of that salmon and creme brulee!!!
This was so close to being my favorite meal. I haven't quite decided which place will get that nod from me. I'm mulling it over...I do know that it was not DH's first place nor the kids' but they had crab cakes and fried fish. They all were nutso over the desserts, though!
