The NOT going to Target has saved me so much money thread.

I have been going to Target more often but spending less. I now only buy what is on my list and try and stay away from the clearance areas, well expect last Saturday but I got the Disney plates and glasses I wanted for 75% off.

I do find that snack foods and paper products are much cheaper there. Plus I love their housebrand for some things and it is usually cheaper than the grocery housebrands. I also have their debit card which saves me an extra 5% and that has been adding up.

I gave up my Target addiction a few years ago. I was there so often the employees knew me. I had Target shopping buddies, ladies I had met shopping the after the holiday sales and I would see them every season. Looking back, it was really almost pathetic. I would hit Target 2 or 3 days a week on my way to work. I travel for my job and if there was a really good buy, I may hit 4 or 5 different targets in a week. One 75% after christmas sale I hit 9 yes 9 targets in one day.

I really had to go cold turkey and may go to Target now once every 2 or 3 months. It was almost a high, finding all the great bargains of things I really didn't need. I had totes stacked 5 and 6 high in our bedroom. I have to say I do miss it sometimes, but I have saved a small fortune not buying all those great buys.

I'm not a Target shopper. At all. But, Costco is right next door to Target. I only buy what's on my list and then usually with a Costco coupon. I also only go once every 4-6 weeks. DH is NOT allowed in the store. There are certain things there i.e. contact solution that are a significant savings for us so the membership fee is more than covered.

I am having the opposite experience. I did quit Target shopping for the last 6 months while I was pregnant but now I find myself there 3x per week! Ugh! It hasn't been less than $60 per trip either!
I need to cut back but with the new baby and the changing of the seasons it means new clothes for everyone and diapers and soon it will be 'spring' cleaning supplies and stuff for the yard!

I've been trying to go only once every other month. I never went a ton, but then I started reading the Target savings threads, and ended up stopping in when I was in town. I was buying so much useless stuff.

We've really tried to limit ourselves to one trip into town per week. The local gas station has the cheapest milk around, and we started making bread again, so there shouldn't be anything we're desperately short of in a week.

My problem with Target is that I work there. I see all of these really good deals going past and I just have to go find them on my lunch break. I now know which days our store marks down which departments so even when I'm not working I stop in on those days for clearance shopping. I think I need a twelve step program.

The last time I went to target was about months ago and I got dog food because I had a coupon and I got a dollar gift card. That was the last time. I go into walmart maybe every weeks for some grocerys that I can not find at safeway. I havent spent money on anything but our reg bills. Wow that really felt good to say that I havent spent money on anything I did not need.

I like Target and I enjoy shopping there. But, I don't go crazy. I do hit up their 75% off toy sale and holiday sales and get some good deals. I can't say I hardly ever spend too much; we did just have a $75 order because I got a free gift card when I spent that much and we needed a lot of kitty supplies and snack food anyway. That's probably one of my higher bills there.

It's a nice place to shop when you have little kids. But, you do have to show restraint. When I felt like I was going too much, I also went cold turkey. Now, after doing the no-buy thread for so long, I can trust myself and usually just pick up the essentials. But, I see no point in passing up a good bargain if I will use it up within a short amount of time. For example, I got my kid’s party invites and goody bag stuff months before their parties at 75% off. We have since had both of their parties and used it all up, saving me a lot of money. Plus, the 75% off toys go a long way in kid birthday land.

Like all good things, moderation is key. I just got tired of storing stuff; my new motto is use it up! For what it's worth, I'm finding a lot of stuff is actually cheaper at Wegmans. Who knew?

Just like most of you I can totally relate to this post.

My local Target opened a produce section yesterday so I'm very curious about how it looks like now & what they are offering. It will be hard to try not to go this week............must not go, must not go.....

I do most of my shopping online but for the basics I do it all at Target and Costco. The bills are always high, but with a large family (a total of 8 kids, 3 now in college) I think we save a lot of money. I really think that no matter where you shop the key is to stick to what you need. Impulse shopping is the problem, not the actual store : )

Wow, I really should pledge to cut down my Target trips. I always go in for one or two items and come out with five or more.

Good for you! It's so encouraging to find ways to save money. :goodvibes

I'm lucky that the Target is a little off my usual path, I have no Wal-Mart nearby, and I really don't have any reason to go to Jewel (Albertson's) more than once a year. I never go to Meijer, and I don't have a Costco membership.

But, impulse buying can rear its ugly head anywhere - especially for me at Trader Joe's. :rolleyes1 Or some of the fantastic local, organic grocery stores I have close to me.

I make my list and allow myself one extra item - especially if I'm at a local-products store, I can feel a little better that my impulse purchase is supporting a local farmer or producer. :thumbsup2

OMG!!! I have the same Target addiction! LOL.

I have to go every week for groceries and pet food. My local grocery store (Vons) was getting so expensive, Target is much cheaper. I make a list and adhere to it. I have a cooler in my car and purchase milk, eggs, etc. at Target and they last until I return home.

I don't go near the clothes, electronics or housewares.

However, now that I have read this thread, I am going to be extra careful not to spend money on extras at Target and review my receipts painstakingly each week.

Who knew that the DisBoards would also contain a 'Target Anonymous' support group! :grouphug:

Hi, my name is Sandi, and I'm a Target addict too :rolleyes1 I usually can't get out of there for under $100 and I'm usually in there to get diapers and snack items. I havent been in two weeks :scared1: but the last time I went, I bypassed all the regular stuff and went straight to snacks and diapers, armed with my coupons, and only bought my coupon items. I've now signed up with Amazon Mom so my diapers are cheaper and no longer have to go there for them. I'll probably still coupon match on snack items, but I have to make it a point to go by myself, no friends in tow!

I too love Target and go maybe 3-4 times a week. I always go on weekends and 1-2 times during the week. It is a nice store to browse through and easy with a toddler. I DON'T ALWAYS BUY SOMETHING. I just like to look and get out of the house and with the cold winter the mall or stores are a great way to get out a bit.

But I do have Target will power, not always but as of the 1st of the year we total cut back and limited trips to any store only when we needed things and we only bought those things. So after months of doing this I now have the will power to just buy what is needed or just look and move on.

For all those who are wondering. I had to go to 2 stores to buy the movie. I ended up buying more at the 2nd stop.:confused3
