Gees! I was all excited right along with the kids about the first day of school coming on Wednesday, and then Selena gets a book today in the mail from her new K teacher. "The Night Before Kindergarten".

I think "Oh, that's cute!" So, of course Selena wants me to read it to her. And I start crying halfway through! Selena is looking up at me like "What the heck is your problem???"

Dang, I've been through this first day of school thing with four other kids now......you think I wouldn't have a problem with the first day of kindergarten!!! Oy!

I never heard of that book. The one that always gets to me is "Love You Forever."

It's amazing how a "children's" book can be so poignant.

{{{HUGS}}} It's hard to watch them grow up.

I've never heard of this book, either, and I think I'm glad. DD started kindergarten yesterday. Between my emotions and the gut-wrenching poem her teacher sent home with the parents, I think I've had all the crying my eyes can handle. Yipes!

Have not heard of the book - but I sent my youngest off to Kindergarten on Thursday.
She was soo excited. She let me walk her to the playground gate - but just barely, said "see you later mom" and off she ran.
I came home and cried!

 from someone who knows how you feel!

Funny, after reading the OP, the book "Love You Forever" immediately came to my mind and then I scrolled down to read this. I guess I'm not the only one who can't get through that book dry-eyed!

I told my DH that when "the baby" goes to kindergarten he'd better have a stretcher ready to take me home on that first day!! I'm gonna be a mess!

Isabella's school sent home "The Kissing Hand" at Kindergarten screening. It's a lovely book too. She went to school with a kiss clutched in her palm the first of Kindergarten and for several days thereafter. She even asked for one this year on the first day of first grade!

I gave my three now grown sons each a copy of "Love You Forever" as high school graduation gifts! When I read "I'll like you for always. I'll love forever. As long as I'm living my baby you'll be." I get all misty.

we have "i love you forever" at the day care i teach at...we were reading it one afternoon and one of the moms walked in to pick up her child..she sat and listened and got all teary eyed!

Can't get through I'll love you forever without crying either. DD thinks I"m nuts.

DD starts Kindergarten on Monday.

I haven't heard of that book either, but Love You Forever is a tear jerker. DS 1st grade class read it to us Mom's on Mother's Day this year - alot of sniff going on. The Giving Tree is another good one.

Awww.... to all you parents of new kindergarteners:D I read The Night Before Kindergarten during Orientation week with my new students, and I read I Love You Forever during the last week of school ( I change the words at the end to " As long as I'm living, your teacher I'll be:teacher: I love the start of the new school year! Don't worry Moms and Dads- we'll take good care of your children!!!!!

If you think you are bad I got teary eyed just reading the title of this thread. Did you ever read I'll Always Love You? It is about Elsie the dog. I started reading it in a bookstore once not knowing the content and I had a problem leaving the store because I was crying ,it was so sad. Then again who can read the Polar Express w/o crying??I must make my aide read it to my class when I am out of the room.

Maybe we should start a thread of tear jerker kids books so at least we will be prepared when we go to the store.

AS a SPED teacher Thank You Mr. Faulker is a killer also. It is by Patricia Polocco..a name to remember if you do not want to stay tear free.

My DD starts kindergarten on tues and yesterday at orientation they read that to the kids while we were listening to the school principal drone on. Their teacher then came in and told us about the story and I got teary eyed just from hearing what it is about! I don't think I could get through that story dry eyed:rolleyes: Then again this is a rough time having a little one go off for their fist day of school.

Brandon starts kindergarten on Thursday. I never heard of that book either, but I'm probably better off. I'm glad he catches the bus at the end of our driveway, that way only the kids on the bus and the driver will see me bawling. :(
