The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

Okay, speaking of thermometers, does anyone use the temperal kind you roll across the forehead? I am leaning towards wanting to get one!

Woohoo! The last 2 nights Elliott has slept really well! Yippee for more sleep for mommy!!

I have been having a HUGE need to clean lately. Today me dad is coming over to finish some things in our bathroom (DH painted on Sunday, and my dad did the second coat yesterday, he is a MUCH better painter than either of us!) so I am having him pull out the stove and fridge while he is here, so I can clean under them. I started cleaning out my drawers, too. No lie, I had at least 50 pairs of white socks!!

I have one though the pedi told me it is not totally accurate for infants. I still use it and often compare it to the ear one (though I hate that ear one).

by the way, it is way cheaper at walmart than BRU.

I don't think I had a virus. I've been too braindead to think lately, but my left breast has been tender for days. Really tender. Since Katie has been sick she has nursed a lot, even for her;), so I just thought maybe she had bruised it. Today, I noticed a bright red spot under the nipple, and it hit me. Mastitis. I looked it up, and I had all the symptoms. Flu like, aches, fever, chills, vomiting, etc. And I have a knot where the red spot is. I was still really achy yesterday, but cleaned all day today. Other than the pain in the infected area, I haven't had any other problems. The sites I went to said antibiotics were needed, but I don't want to go to the dr (or take more meds) if I can help it! I texted a NP (dh's cousin) and hope she can give me some advice.

Yep sounds like mastitis. HAve you checked on kellymom for advice? Yes doctors will RX antibiotics, but they are not always 100% necesssary. If you are already feeling better you may be over the worst of it, but if you relapse get on the phone & get some ABX ASAP.

While nursing or pumping, you probably want to massage at the painful knot to clear the blockage. When I had some mastitis close calls, I found that once I hand expressed out of the blockage (which was usually, thick, sticky almost oily looking stuff) I usually felt better within a day or so.

That is the worst! I've had it twice, once with each of my kiddos. I thought I had the flu too. That red spot is a pretty strong indication along with the knot. I know it sounds nuts, but you can use a cabbage leaf that's been in the fridge or freezer to help with the soreness. Just swap it out once it becomes wilted. I took Augmentin both times and in about a day it was better and by the end of the week it was gone. I hope you feel better!

Stopping back in to say how much my boys make me laugh and smile. Sometimes I will leave the room to grab something from the kitchen (they are connected by 2 stairs and a little wall) and I will watch them playing without them seeing me. My oldest crawled over to my son who was standing near the stairs holding on the his bouncer. He gave him a big kiss and said 'I love you, baby.' and said 'see?' and gave him a huge hug. They crack me up! Of course my LO just grabbed him by the hair and wailed on him with a truck, but the good usually outshines those moments. :lovestruc

Sarah!!! I got the stroller today and it's brand spankin' new!

I haven't completely taken it out of the box yet (Lucas and I are on our way out the door!) but it came in a Maclaren box, the stroller is still in plastic wrap (like if you bought it at a store, the wrap with all the warning labels on it) and it even has a carrying case in the bottom!!

I'm so excited!! No time to set it up right now but I can't wait until I get home!!

Hi girls. I just got back from Disney on Sunday and I have a LOT of catching up to do. When I left we were on page 198. Anyway, we have a blast:banana: We stayed in a 2BR at BCV and it was perfect for us. Hope everyone is doing great.:thumbsup2

Can you skip the chicken pox? My older kids had to have proof of that one for school.

Mastitis can get really serious really fast. So if you start to feel any worse, I would do something about it right away. I can't believe I never got it, but I'm always really careful with hard spots.

I have it! Got it at BJs for only $20 with a coupon! It takes a bit to get used to it and sometimes it's almost impossible to use, but it's more accurate than the ear and easier than rectal. Lily usually fights it, so it can be a pain, but better than other options.

Sweet! DH was soo mad at me for buying it. :sad2: When we looked over the weekend, we both agreed that we liked the Baby Jogger better, but when I saw the deal, I just couldn't pass it up. I'm hoping we'll like it when we actually use it. Otherwise it'll go up on Craigslist.:guilty:

I want to hear everything! Welcome back! :thumbsup2

I can't figure out how to unfold it. :rotfl:

And it looks like I'm going to have to lower the mattress in the crib... this is what greeted me this morning:

He is so cute Patsy. Is he better today?

Thanks for the advice guys. The NP called me first thing this morning, around 8, and told me she would call in some meds, and that I definitely needed them. I'm not allergic to anything, but Katie is to augmentin (remember the pics:scared1:), so she prescribed keflex. I have to take 4 a day for 7 days! I think she did a lower dose so the baby doesn't get too much at a time. She said it would be fine to keep nursing thank goodness.

I have been massaging it and hand expressing, and it feels better. The knot is still there, and the NP said that if I don't take the antibiotics it can come back later.

I spent today cleaning out 2 closets! I took 3 bags to a mission when I went to get Katie and get my meds ($4:yay:). I have Katie's clothes (hand me down) organized in 3 containers: this fall, next summer, then anything bigger all in one container. I have her summer clothes in the drawers or hanging in my closet. I have our Disney stuff organized, and a list of what we need (I only have 76 days to pack!).

Have I done any schoolwork? Nope......

He's a little bit better but still a very runny nose and very sleepy.

We had to go run errands today and that wore him out. I hit up the Dollar Tree for invitations (they had stuff specifically for "1st Birthday"! so I ended up buying plates and napkins, too) and toys for him to have at the beach. It seems like that stuff disappears fast!
Then we his the social security office. Ugh. I can't find his card... so I thought while I was there (to confirm his number) I would order a new one. Nope! I needed ID for him. Like a passport. Don't have that. So the guy said that his medicare/medicaid (I forget which he said) card would work. Uh, he's on private health insurance. "Oh, well that card will work"... nope! It wouldn't, because the policy isn't in HIS name. What the heck?? Do 9 month olds really have their own insurance policy?

So I have to go back with a dated immunization record signed by the pediatrician. How much sense does that make? How is that proof that he is himself?!

He did give me a certified print out of the number, though.. which is all I wanted really. I know the card is here! Somewhere. :-/
The VA is getting cranky with DH though because we haven't turned over the number.. so at least that is one less thing I have to worry about!

Robin, you are on a ROLL! I'm so jealous!!! When you wanna come help me? :lmao: I'll pay for airfare! haha

I've taken Keflex too. I forgot about Katie's incident! It should start feeling better soon with the meds. And don't forget about the cabbage, it really helps!

If the pain comes back I will try the cabbage! Right now it is tender, but not really painful, unless she gets really aggressive with it! Sometimes I feel like she is trying to take it with her for later!

Still no teeth though......

Patsy, I don't think I'll make it there! I'm still so far behind on my list! Dh cooked tonight, which is nice. But it never involves cleaning up. We ate late, since ds12's baseball practice started tonight. And I'm tired, so I just told them to put everything in the fridge and I'd clean tomorrow. So I get to redo that part of the house in the morning!

I'm getting my hair straightened tomorrow. I've never done much with it, and it is kinky and such a mess. I have zero time to fix it. The girl that does my hair cut the kids' hair last week, and was supposed to cut mine. I asked her about straightening, and she said she would do it for $60 and it would last for months! I am willing to try anything to not have to deal with the kink and frizz, so I'm going at 10 tomorrow for a 3 hour procedure. I'm taking the laptop and some resouce material, so maybe I'll get some schoolwork done. At this point, I don't even care if it all falls out. I only keep it long because dh pouts like a 2 yr old if I cut it (even trim it:headache:). It is shoulder lenght right now, because every year or so I get mad at him and chop it.:rotfl:

Your DH does that too? Everytime I say I'm getting my hair cut he always says, "not too short!" It's never been too short...well since third grade when my mom got one of those curling irons with the combs stuck and they had to practically give me a buzz cut to get it out. :scared1: actually more  lol I still am traumatized by that one!

DH used to do it to me, too.

Then one day he was complaining about needing a haircut because his hair was like 1/4" longer than he normally wears it and he was hot and uncomfortable, etc... so I was like "Hey, look at me. Now complain!"

So he let me cut it short again :rotfl:
It's long again now, though. Past my shoulders. Which is crazy! I had a very, very, very short cut for my baby shower in April last year. It's hard to believe it's grown that much in just a year!

Ha! DH ticked me off one day that I had a haircut already scheduled. Just to spite him, I did get it cut short (I had been debating it anyway). He learned his lesson!!

Ugh, well, layoffs have hit us. DH is a buyer for a yacht building company. They are laying off half the workforce for 3 weeks, starting Monday, then the other half. Fortunately, DH is in the first group. He is actually leaving on Monday for Key West for 2 weeks (yeah, hard deployment there!), and then the last week of his layoff, he can work some makeup days from when he was overseas last year, so we should be fine.

At what point do you guys think a sick kid should go to the pediatrician?

His fever is still 99.5, but Tylenol takes it down.

He's got a perpetually runny nose, his breathing is raspy (especially when he is asleep) and he's coughing a TON. He's been choking on his bottles because he won't stop eating to cough. :(

Part of me wants to call and just take him but at the same time I don't wanna be the crazy mom that runs to the Dr. for everything!!

babytigger99, I'm jealous that your husband is going to Key West! For 2 weeks!
Hope things get straightened out with his job.

*eta* Nevermind. I just went ahead and made him an appointment. I can't stand to hear him cough and it's worth $10 getting him checked out. I keep hearing scary things about pneumonia around here, too! Freaks me out!!!!!!!

Patsy -

I am ticked off he is going to Key West!! He has wanted this deployment for a while, but never gotten it, so now that I can't go for a visit, he gets it!! This is so not fair!
