The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

Okay, so I have about 2 months before Elliott makes his arrival. He will have to be ready to be on the go, as he is due right in the beginning of DS;s wrestling season. I will have his stroller, which I love, but I am looking for recommendations on a sling for him. Any ideas?

Ahhh! Slings!! Makes my head spin! There are soooo many options.

The best place for WAAAY too much info on ways to carry baby:

www.thebabywearer.com

I have a Mei Tai I bought off etsy...wouldn't want that for an infant.

I loved my hotsling when lilliana was first born, she would snuggle right in and fall fast asleep. Now I have an Ergo but I haven't used it to much.

Ohmygoodness! It converts to look like a pram! That is so cool.

OMG.. I am so tired of crawling babies!!! They are driving me BONKERS! If I have to pull one more baby off the entertainment center, out from under the chair.. chase them down the hallway.. GAHHHHHH!!! Im going nuts. I need BUNGEE CORD. and lots of it. I have to put them in the dreaded jumper just to keep them contained. and they HATE it.

Thanks for the info Sarah - I was having such a hard time on how much EBF babies should eat. I even looked on kellymom and couldn't find much. He eats about 4 oz each bottle feed during the day and seems to eat every 3-3 1/2 hours with her. 3 oz left him hungry.

Alex is always SO HAPPY in the morning. I just  it.

Hello all.

I figured that I should go ahead and jump into this thread since it has become obvious that Cathy and I are WAY over our heads with the entire baby thing.

Sarah's three weeks and two days old now and pretty much just wants to be attached to Cathy 24/7. So Cathy's getting virtually no sleep and gets nothing done during the day. I try to help out, but I could only take 2 1/2 weeks off work so my honey is pretty much on her own during the day.

I'm confident that we will figure everything out.

I'll try to post a few pics of Princess Wigglypants in the next few days.

Congratulations on your little one!:cheer2:

You aren't in over your head....you've just become a parent. Welcome to the club!:rotfl:

Congrats!! I agree w/ Lisa, not in over your head, just new parents! It does get easier as the baby gets bigger & you start to fall into a more predictable routine. The ability to get anything done grows very slowly & generally along with the baby. So at less than a month old I would have a very low level on expectations. After another month or 6 weeks, likely Cathy will find her groove (and then she'll get annoyed with you for messing it up on the weekends.) :upsidedow

All newborns want to do is eat and sleep (and poop) so just take care of your wife and hold the baby as much as you can, so she can shower, or try to relax. It is very hard work for your wife and she's probably also emotional from the birth (hormones!) too. It WILL get better. I promise!! The others are right, she'll find her groove. This time passes so quickly, try to enjoy what you can!! If you have any family or friends who can just come over and hold the baby that would help her. And please know that housework, cooking, etc can all wait...babies grow TOO fast so tell her to sit and feed the baby and rest. You'll take care of the rest (or high a maid for a few weeks LOL.)

I've been MIA but have been lurking some. The 3 kids keep me busy!!!

Amelia is 6 months now, a champ nurser, a champ roll-arounder LOL and a champ smiler. :) No crawling yet but I see it in my future, she can get around the room rolling! I just started her on solids, she's just getting bananas off my finger for now. Not sure if I'm doing babyfood or just bits of solid soft stuff, like avocado, banana. She's here next to me just talking away!! I LOVE this stage!

Hey, Lucas is 6 months old and there are days I still don't get anything done.
I think it's the nature of the beast!

I can't wait to see Princess Wiggleypants!

I can't get much done either. That is one of the hardest adjustments for me, that and lack of sleep!!! (Amelia is not a champ sleeper LMAO!) But dang they are so cute!

I'm lucky if I can get dinner made, the dishes & laundry done and keep on top of school. I have 15 credit hours this semester and I'm so frazzled mentally. Thank goodness it's almost time for finals! I will be using my month off to rejuvenate myself. And my house!

...so thanks to a thread on the budget board I am looking at Vera Bradley stuff. Now I want! I don't need. But I want.
Trying to find a bag design I like, which is hard since I've never really looked at one in person... Thinking about stopping by a store later today that has them and checking out the styles and coming home to order. Heehee.

I wonder if my parents are still looking for gift ideas... lol

LOL yeah I have a hard time making dinner!!

Someone was asking about slings, I never figured one out, but did love my Moby wrap with a newborn and then use my Ergo now that she's bigger. I also love Angel Packs and mei tais, but I prefer carriers that buckle to ones that tie.

Valerie.. Im coming to you again to ask for help!!

Our friends that had the triplets called this evening.. Umm.. Quick background info.. My dh .. Frelan.. and the dad.. Bill.. have been friends forever. They have been married for 5 years, and have 4 older children. 3 are just hers, 2 preteens, and a 7yo.. Their baby is one and a half. So I know him much better then her.

ANYWAYS.. Bill called tonight to tell me that two of the triplets have brain bleeds, they both have a level (stage?) 4 on one side, and a 3 on the other. They are understandably very upset.. I have no info on that, the outcomes, or anything. I know that a few of the moms on my twin boards who had preemies had this, and everyones babies came home from the hospital healthy. But other then some brief snippets I have read from them, I dont know anything else about it. I dont want them to read about it online.. You know how awful that can be. So if you have anything you can tell me about it, I would be forever grateful. I just want to give him some hope.

I seem to be the only one he can talk to right now.. I want to do more, but I am really at a loss. I have offered up everything I can think of, but she doesnt want to talk to anyone, and is feeling really bad. She is thinking it is all her fault.. No matter what he says, she doesnt believe him. I dont know.. I am just heart broken for them right now.

Steve,

Like everyone else has said you both will get into your groove with the baby soon enough. I think that being older sometimes does make this adjustment take longer. I know that my age at delivery took a toll on my head and body. Lets face it us older people need more sleep :lmao: and I know at 40 I have alot more aches and pains than I use too. Tell Kathy to hang in there it gets better, I know you have been a great support to her during the pregnancy keep it up. That little princess is certainly worth every change you are all going through.

They have a tough road before them, frought with danger and heartbreak to be sure. BUT, others have gone before them and made it out the other side. I encourage them to seek out preemie parenting support, online I belong to Yahoo Groups Preemie-Listhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/preemie-list/

OK, now brain bleeds (IVH, Intra Ventricular Hemhorage) are pretty common in the micro-preemie population, and grade 3/4 can be quite serious. My son had bilateral grade 2 IVH (bleeds) -- he has mild cerebral palsy, he is ambulatory, wears leg braces, gets physical therapy, has a "funny" gait and does not have the same balance, strength, stability or stamina of same age peers. His CP is likely due to the brain bleeds, but could have been caused by simply by his premature birth.

Just because of these babies gestational age, there is a chance that not all of them will make it home, and if they survive they are at increased risk of disability. Obviously, this couple needs to be talking with their babies' doctors for specific info about their kids prognosis. The thing is, while statistics can help you see probability & chances, they cannot predict a specific outcome for a specific child. There are preemies with grade 4 bleeds that have only the most minor impacts from them & preemies whose scans were declared "clean" that bear major disability -- there is no way to tell at this point. Babies brains are still very plastic and even when damaged (as with a bleed) can recover to what extent is unpredictable. If your friends are spiritual people, prayer may help, or least help the parents to feel supported.

I'm sorry it's not all rosy & cheery. And the mom may be a wreck for a while. When my first son was born (at 26 1/2 weeks) for about the first 3/4 weeks I was walking & talking and *appeared* to be coping, I was probably in shock. I would get in my car alone & drive & cry. It took me a couple of years to get over feeling guilty that my body failed or that I did this to my child -- talking & writing about it and getting validation from other moms that have been there were crucial, and why I think the parents seeking support groups when they are ready is important.

Also this couple is very nearly walking through hell right now. I remember describing it (having a child critically ill in the NICU) as ripping out your own heart and watching it struggle to breathe & live in the warming tray before you. They have it X 3. Even if they have a strong marriage -- men & women process & cope differently, this experience could rip them apart & stress their marriage to the breaking point. It's important for them to remember to connect and really be with and hear their partner.

I know the mom is not ready to hear it yet, but she did the best she could. With trips she was nearly assured of delivering early, of course she would have like to have made it further than she did, but she had the appropriate medical care, she wasn't being reckless -- IT WASN'T HER FAULT. Had it been a single 6 pound baby & not 3 2 pound babies all would have been well. I really feel for your friends. I do. Even though my older son is 6 1/2 now, I can relive all the old fears & anxiety -- it all comes flooding back in an instant. If there is anything I can do (from a distance) let me know.

Adi she is sooo cute! I totally love the dress, too!!

I am not crafty at all, so that is amazing to me!!!!!!!

... did anyone else on here decide to make their own baby food?
I haven't done a fruit yet but so far I've been successful on my veggies. He seems to prefer what I make to the jarred stuff. He LOVES the peas I made.

Thank you :) It was hard to get done, but I'm glad I made it!

I plan on making my own baby food when we get there :)

Adi!! She is a doll! I love the dress.:thumbsup2 I love sewing for my kiddos! My older dd LOVES when I make matching stuff for her and Jazzy. I am working on a bunch of stuff for our trip to WDW so the kids all have matching clothes.
THANKS!!

I haven't seen you on the disboutiquers thread, if you aren't over there you should join us!!!

Adi she is so beautiful.
Thank you :)

My friend had her triplets last night. They were born at 25 weeks and 5 days. The biggest is 2lbs 2oz, the smallest is 1lb 15 oz.. So far, so good, but it is going to be a long road for them. If you can spare any good thoughts for them, I know they would appreciate it.
My thoughts and prayers are with them!!!

I think it's so funny you are all talking about having more babies--I'm trying to decide just how bad it really is to be an only child. lol
I thought that for the first few weeks, but I'm coming around now :) /it is had not to have me time and not sleep the night straight through (at least for me). I think that nursing in the beginning also made it extra hard! She wanted to be on all the time!

And that's when they call you from the cell phone you swore you would never buy for them, but did because middle school is a scary place and you wanted them to be able to reach you whenever they needed; and tell you not to pick them up from school because they have a drama club meeting to go to and a volleyball game after that and then they will be doing homework at so and so's house (and that's OK because you know so and so's family) and that they will call you when they are ready to come home. And then you know you are done climbing up the ladder and have started down that slide that ends with an 18th birthday and a high school graduation. And then you really miss that clingy baby-even if you recently had another one.

(I hope that made sense, I'm having a lot of trouble coping with my oldest "baby" doing all the things she is supposed to do at her age. I really didn't think it would go this fast. :sad1:)

That's what I'm afraid of! It goes by too fast!!

I LOVE having older kiddos. It makes me appreciate that the babies cant talk yet. :scared1::lmao::lmao:KIDDING! On Thanksgiving I asked my older kids what they were thankful for.. Alex said he was thankful for the babies.. Because he loves them SO MUCH. Kaylee said she was thankful that she loved me SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much. :goodvibes:love: AWWWW! She is only four, so not everything she says makes sense.. But I am thankful that she loves me so much too!

It really is nice when they can entertain themselves.. Or tell you what is wrong. and NOTHING is better then when they see you.. come running up t you... and give you giant hugs and tell you how much they love you! Makes EVERYTHING worthwhile!

I went to Disneyland with some friends right before I got pg with the twins.. My mom brought Alex and Kaylee to the airport to pick me up. I was coming down the escalator, and they were at the bottom waiting for me.. As soon as they saw me coming, they both started jumping up and down, screaming their little heads off. SO EXCITED to see me! Everyone around us was looking on.. and smiling. It was beautiful!! And totally the BEST part of my trip! Its the thing I am most looking forward to on my trip in February.. Stepping off that escalator and having all four coming at me like that!! :love:Kids are awesome!
AWWW!! You made me get all teary eyed!

So I decided to take a stand at work. My union came up with a solution for me to work PT. I didn't think it was going to work, but turns out it probably would. The union suddenly isn't supporting it anymore because 2 people are trying to push a seperate issue and want it to be included with my issue.

So I told our president (one of the 2 people) that I didn't agree and that I could get a petition with pretty much everyone supporting me. I generally get along with her pretty well.

So she forwarded it to the big organizer people to help us sort through it. I have a feeling they will side with her since she is the pres., but I have serious support and a lot of people are really unhappy with our union in general.

So we're getting ready to light our torches and grab the pitchforks...lol
Wish me luck!

Hoping it all works out well!!

So Lucas is officially 6 months old today (the 3rd) CRAZY!!

A few pictures.. he was being absolutely ROTTEN when I took this yesterday.

He's gotten sooooo big and he is soooo handsome!!!
I'm confused. Are you feeding him breastmilk bottles or formula?

If you are feeding expressed bm in bottles, he only needs 3 oz every 3 hours, and will go that way until solids are introduced.

Formula fed babies need more oz, but bm is magic and adjusts to the baby's developmental needs. They need an average of an ounce a hour. So if he wants it more frequently, you give him less per bottle.

Here's info from kellymom:
http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/bottle-feeding.html
http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/index.html

A ebm fed baby still feeds about 7-8 times a day. Lily feeds about every 2-3 hours during the day and 1-2 times at night. When I work her schedule looks like:
4am me, 8am me, 10:30 bottle, 1:30 bottle, 4:30 bottle, 6:30 me, 9 me, 11 me. She usually skips at least one of those straight from me feedings--or goes longer in between. And during the day she only feeds for about 5 minutes--at night it can be about 10. She's SOOO much more efficient than the beginning...ack!

Formula is totally different. They need much more in quantity, but often less frequently.
Thanks for this info, I've been wondering. My mom was getting critical b/c Sometimes I can only pump two-three ounces, good to know that the components change to accommodate her needs.

Okay, so I have about 2 months before Elliott makes his arrival. He will have to be ready to be on the go, as he is due right in the beginning of DS;s wrestling season. I will have his stroller, which I love, but I am looking for recommendations on a sling for him. Any ideas?

We love our baby K'tan (though I would get one size bigger).

Hi girls, we are back from Disney. We actually got back in late Thursday night but have not had chance to check out the boards. I still need to catch up on this one. Just to let everyone know, all is well with the Mouse!!! We had a great time. BLT is wonderful and we had a great view. I could sit on the couch and look at Space Mountain and the Castle.:yay::yay::yay: But boy o boy, did I miss Natalie. It was wonderful to get away with just my husband. We laughed a lot and slept in every morning. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving:banana:

Thanks for the info Sarah - I was having such a hard time on how much EBF babies should eat. I even looked on kellymom and couldn't find much. He eats about 4 oz each bottle feed during the day and seems to eat every 3-3 1/2 hours with her. 3 oz left him hungry.

Alex is always SO HAPPY in the morning. I just  it.

Do what works for you and him as long as he's healthy. It sounds to me like you're doing just fine.

I LOVE my Hipster, but I HIGHLY recommend looking at them first. Some of them are absolutely tiny and some are huge. Plus I need a lot of pockets and prefer to have the strap across my body instead of on my shoulder. I think it's the best thing about VB--so many designs that one has to work. Sign up for the emails on the site--they've been sending out big time coupon codes lately. Great deals if you are flexible about you pattern choice. So far I'm Purple Punch only, but I like some of the newer ones too.

Welcome back!!! Sounds liek a wonderful time!

Welcome to the thread Steve! We should change the title to New Parents!! :thumbsup2 Like everyone said, it does get better. I know right now you feel like it'll never end and that you're going crazy, but it really does get better.
