The NEW WL FAQ (Part 5) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

I was there in August and there was not a bus to the TTC. You'll need to take the bus to Epcot. You could boat to the Contemporary and get on the monorail, but that would take much longer.

Hello everyone,
Just had to post today because I AM SO EXCITED. We stayed at WL last summer and fell in love. We have had a trip scheduled to come back to Disney this summer for my 30th b-day and were booked at POP, which we like a lot, but we LOVE the lodge and a party of me was HOPING some miracle would occur and we could return. WELL. . .we did our tax refund info and we are able to afford it and I AM SO EXCITED. Changed our reservation to WL woodsview today. Now I'm just hoping for some pixie dust that we get a 5th floor MK view like we did last year, heaven.

MAGICinMYHEART,

Thanks for the info!

Another question -- is Cub's Den open in the afternoons for non-babysitting services? Just wondering if it has parent-supervised activities similar to the Neverland Club in the afternoons.

And is there a playground at WL?

Thanks!

YES to both questions!

Javaj

What activities are available at WL for children?
On select days Wilderness lodge has programs for children: Duck Races on Upper Silver Creek, Pool Games, Fireside Storytelling, (Meet in your pajamas at the Mercantile Fireplace) Beach Games, Penny Toss & Duck Rings.
(Daily 3-4 p.m. @ pool)
Daily Activities: Open Crafts and Games in Cub's Den (free)
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

*For good rainy day activities, ask for a Kid's activity/coloring book at the bell station or a list of Hidden Mickeys at Guest services. You can also get a list of the resort's music at the Mercantile shop.

The activites at the Cub's Den are different everyday and they usually have a craft project.

The playground consist, of a jungle gym with tubes to crawl through and a slide...not really much.

Hope this helps.

Hi all...

I am going for a quick March trip to WL with my mom. She is a nature lover, and I like to sit on my balcony in the morning and night enjoying peace and quiet. What room category would we enjoy, and any requests to add? I have stayed at WL 2x before, in the same room. 5th or 6th floor (I think 6th), over WCC. Could see high fireworks, which was cool...had booked Standard View, but I think this was considered Lobby View or Woods View or something else. The service area beeping at 5am did disturb me, but the fireworks view was worth it.

HELP! Want mom to love this trip!

Sounds like you sould request a Woods View (Lodge View) a little futher down the hall North Wing. If you would rather see wildlife request a lower floor, (rabbits, otters, turtles, armadillo, possable deer) For a posssabe view of the Fireworks a higher floor (5th for non-smoking. 6th for smoking optional) Good luck and have a Magical Trip.

oh please say it ain't so!!! I'm so excited to be staying at our first Deluxe. I couldn't bear it if the rooms were shabby as a recent Resorts board poster reported. There is a difference between just needing mousekeeping to come in and do a better cleaning job (can happen anywhere) and the room being tired and worn looking. I know AKL is newer and comparably priced but I like WL's theming better I think. Please reassure me!!!

I'm also looking for reassurance about the WL room conditions! Was already hesitant about WL because we really like being on the monorail. But we've always wanted to try WL and we have a ressie in 9 days! Any input appreciated!

We LOVED WL, stayed there for the first time last year and will be returning this summer. Believe me, I would not spend this much to stay here if we didn't like the rooms. The balcony for us is worth it. The lobby, grounds, etc. are to die for and breathtaking. Our room was great, furnishings and everything in perfect condition. The wallpaper isn't brand new but wasn't peeling or anything, a bit rustic but it goes with the theming. You will love it!!!

I would love to reassure you that your room would be in pristine condition I can't. The Wilderness Lodge is over 12 years old, they have already started refurbishing the rooms. This takes time so I don't have any idea on a time frame.

Now for the good news...The poster I believe you are referring to, booked a room with a AP discount at the standard view rate ($121.00) and thought she was going to receive a Deluxe Jr. Suite, that is rarely offered at any discount this room is $410.00 a night. The cast member told her that they did have this room available but it would be at Rack Rate, They were upgraded first to Courtyard View with bunk beds, then moved to another Courtyard View room ($182.86) I'm I right? Wilderness Lodge comped them ($186.86-$121.00=$61.86X6 nights=$371.16) $371.16 because she was mistaken??? About the room she reservered :confused3

I can understand her being disapointed she was thinking she was getting a suite and received a standard room...this is what upset her. She tried to recover but happened to get a room that wasn't CLEAN and I will say right now there is NO EXCUSE. But I would have called the front desk and have had a manager/housekeeping come to the room to clean it. Sometimes small things can set you off if you are already upset.

Things can happen: Every housekeeper isn't the same, just as guest aren't the same.
(Once we took our luggage out then had breakfast at WCC we went back up to our room to brush our teeth as we hadn't checked out, well the Mousekeeper had already cleaned the room.) We just backed out and went on our way.

When I first read her report I checked her other post to see if she had visited us on the FAQ Thread, I hate it when guest receive wrong information. She hadn't visited here nor had she asked any questions about the Wilderness Lodge :confused3 so I didn't respond to her thread.

If she had a bad experience, I'm not going to post and say...I stayed there and everything was Magical, no worries, no problems. It would make her think I thought she was insignificant or lying, when she was truly dissapointed.

I will finish my dissertation by saying...All my visits to Wilderness Lodge have been wonderful. Some more so then others. There have been marks and dings some of the time, but it didn't effect my trip one bit.

Beckie

P.S.: When I stayed over at the Grand Floridian @ Christmas there were marks and dings there also.

A couple of questions. Are the children activies geared more for younger or a mix. My Ds is 11. Also is there a charge for the coffee pots if you want them in your room. Thanks

Magicinmyheart,

Thanks for the straightforward answer. I've stayed in the CR wings so I understand the "dings and wear and tear" on Disney resort rooms. I had just thought the WL rooms were in better condition than the CR wing rooms. The other post just made the room conditions sound REALLY bad. Guess some rooms are just better than others.

Can't say I still won't have second thoughts about switching to the Poly, but for now, I will stick with our current WL ressie.

Thanks again!

Coffee pots are already in the room with coffee and tea, at no extra charge.

On no, the rooms are no where near the shape that the rooms over in the Wings at the CR were. It's just some wear and tear. Remember the CR and the Poly are over 35 year old, and both have under gone many refurbishments over the years.

There have been bad reviews on every resort at WDW some much worst then this, so you have to take them all in and make the best decision for your family.

Hope you have a great trip.

I would have to say that most of the organized activities maybe geared toward children a little younger than you son, though I'm sure he would enjoy the pool games. He is probably more into video games, or riding around Bay Lake in a Sea Racer.

My nephews that are your sons age also love renting the bike's and racing to Ft. Wilderness Campground. I say racing because there is no way I would call our bike rides nice and slow, at that age it's always a race. The game room at Wilderness Lodge is nice, but the game room over at the CR is the largest of all the resorts, maybe a boat ride over to the CR for some extra game time.

 Hi. I'll second all above said... We stayed at Grand Floridian in a NEWLY renovated building and we still had some problems with the bathroom - which were not fixed during our staying. Even though we enjoyed our vacation - but didn't have the very best!!!
When we tried WL two years ago we found the room to be perfect - and our mousekeeper was splendid - the rooms might be in need of some renovation, but CMs there are so helpful that you can always contact one of them -should any problem arise!
I would like to add : I personally think it's much better if you POLITELY tell
CMs about any big or small problem as soon as they occur: we always found people willing us to fully enjoy our vacation - thus doing all they could ( and even MORE !!!) to give us what we wanted / needed !!

HAVE A NICE TRIP !!!! and enjoy every moment at WDW !!!!
Laura :bounce:
