The NEW WL FAQ (Part 5) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY! Part 2

Hi all,

In just a few weeks, I'm bringin my gf and parents to the WL for a week as a Christmas gift. But we've never stayed at this property before...so I was wondering...

Do they have laundry/drycleaning services available? Not a laundry room...but a "put your dirty stuff in a bag, and we'll bring it back to you later in the day all clean". We'll be getting in from a week on a cruise and are then going all over FL for a day to visit my Dad's family...so I'd like to avoid wasting any time on our Disney leg of the trip doing laundry. If there's a way we can outsource it to the lodge....PLEASE let me know. ;)

Thanks in advance!!!

Chris :)

I know the smoking rooms are on the 6th floor but I was wondering if any Concierge rooms are smoking. Do I have to specifically ask for non-smoking on the concierge level or are all rooms on that floor guaranteed smoke-free?

Thanks!

They do have laundy service but it is costly you are warned.

Thanks - know where I can actually find details online? :) Like to know what to plan for...

Plus, considering the cost of a Disney trip...costly is relative. ;)

All the concierge rooms on the 7th floor are non-smoking, no need to request a non-smoking room.

Hi..everyone. I am new to the site and I am just amzed at all the great information you can find on here. What would we do without the internet?
We are planning a trip in June 07 and debating on staying at the AK or WL. We will be staying for 8 nights. Has anyone split between two resorts before? Is it more of a hassle than worth it? I am thinking the WL would be better for my DS (5). Since it would be our first time there I was hoping you could fill me in on any "must see or do" at WL. Also, what views would you suggest? Is the Old Faithful worth the extra $100/ngt?
Sorry for all the questions and I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks Again!

Welcome! I can give you my opinion on spltting the stay, having done it on our last trip. We were WL lovers, tried and true, but when a great deal came up at AKL for our last trip with only rack rates available at WL, we decided we would split the stay. For our family, two older DSs, it was a hassle, and to be quite frank, they just didn't want to leave AKL! Now don't get me wrong, we all love WL, but they were annoyed that we had to leave AKL at all, and now for our 2007 trip, they are making me promise that we won't split the stay again....they want AKL. For me as the "sensible adult" of the group, it was a hassle, the packing up and moving, the checking in a second time, it was all just a wasted day, even though it was supposed to be an easy transiltion. Now I'm sure others will say they had no problem, but for us, it was too much work! Either way, you can't go wrong. Both Lodges are great, and of course if you love seeing animals, AKL is tops. Hope that helps!!!

Great! Thanks for the info. That's what I was hoping.

Only 21 more days. I can't wait! :teeth:

Hi, I will be arriving on 12/9, can someone let me know how the food at Whispering Canyon is? I have heard mixed reviews. Not sure if I could get an ADR at this point, but would like to try. thanks :thumbsup2

Lady Mar, my family stayed at WL in August and we enjoyed dining at the Whispering Canyon. In fact, the WC may have been the most enjoyable meal of our entire stay.

We were also there in August and it's always one of our favorite restaurants. It's not gourmet food but it's good and filling and it's a ton of fun! Definitely give it a try.

I will see if I can book for Late Lunch/Early Dinner
Good luck. We made reservations back in August for December 9th.
We were hoping for 5-6pm time frame..
This was the best our TA could do for us:

Saturday, December 9th @ 8:10 pm
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Ended up working out for the best as we got a Winter Sleigh ride for 6pm.

BTW, if you are interested, I setup a tenative meeting for a mini-Dis meet for those that would just like to say hi:

Wilderness Lodge Mini-DIS Meet:
Date: December 9, 2006
Time: 5:00pm-??
Loaction: Near the Bridge inside?? I don't know the lodge well enough to set an exact Meeting place.

Only 26 more days :cloud9: :yay:

Hi All--
I have a question for you: where can we get wine or hot alcoholic beverages to take on the Sleigh Ride? We are scheduled for 8:30 (after a 6:30 Artist's Point dinner--hope that's enough time!). Can you just buy them at the lobby lounge/bar? They really let you just walk off with the glasses/mugs?

Also, I have to change my dates on the list--we are now splitting our stay with the Poly so will be at WL 12/2-4.

Ok- one more question: are there any rooms/suites at WL that have more of a sitting area than just a bedroom? Or, would it be better to just try for VWL if we need that?

Thanks!

Hi Snogger! I did try this morning for WCC, but of course they did not have anything available. I didn't really think they would. Anyway...thanks for the invite, I will sure try to make it! :yay:

Don't give up! Keep calling! If you still have no luck, stop by the reservation desk at WCC to see if they have any openings. Lots of times people run late for their ressie or something else comes up and they no-show. Good luck and keep trying!

Please update my listing on the December visitor's list.

December 2-8, 2007 is now Concierge. :teeth:

Hope to see some of you this December, but unfortunately I'm leaving on the 9th.

You can take a direct Boat or Bus to the Magic Kingdom. Boats also ferry you to Ft Wilderness and the Contemporary. Buses take you EPCOT, Disney-MGM Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, and the water parks.* To reach other resorts, go to the Magic Kingdom (daytime) or Downtown Disney (evening), and then transfer to a resort bus. Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge share many of their bus routes, so travel to and from Fort Wilderness is quite convenient.*

I'm so perplexed! So does this mean that the bus picks up at FW first, then comes to WL? So the bus may already be semi-full when it gets to WL? So the bus service is shared.

RE: Laundry:
Go in the evening time right before the rush. There is a waiting line till about 11:00pm. If you didn't come back for your dryer in time your stuff is taken out! Everyone is splitting their wash load into 2 dryer loads so it would dry faster. Most of the WL VET ladies reccmend early morning.

Is this really a regular occurence?

Thanks!
