love this thread and all of the great info. we stayed at vwl in august 2006, and loved it! just booked a studio for may 2007. it's out 30th anniversary!

Just curious.......does anyone know if they actually have a room # assigned to you prior to check-in or do they simply select your category when you arrive? For example, when I reserve and indicate a preference for "lobby view" or such, does someone review that at an appointed time and select a room or courtesy upgrade prior to my arrival or is there still opportunity for it to be done by the CM at the time of check-in?

I believe they are assigned the day before arrival. I'm not positive though.

We had a lot of us that went home in December. Did anyone actually end up meeting one another?

You're very sweet, thank you so much! :goodvibes I can't wait to get back there. Oct. 2008 seems like forever away!

For anyone interested, here are some pictures of WL that I took during our trip on 12/9/06. It looks like they were doing quite a bit of work on the exterior that morning.

Sorry for the stupid question, but here goes. Do all the rooms have balconies or patios?

I hate that your trip encompassed the remodeling timeframe, but you are going back I see:thumbsup2 Thanks for sharing your awesome photos:goodvibes

Yes. Some are solid though (no rail to see through but a stone wall instead). You can see these in the pictures above on the rooms that face the lake. We were in one of them last month. Great rooms for the EWP each night.

Are there bunk bed rooms on the concierge floor?

What time does the EWP come by this time of year? We will be there from Jan 29 to 2/3 and was just wondering if it was earlier than 9:30 this time of year or if it is always the same.

Finally, If we want to go to Ohana for dinner one night, what is the best way to get there from WL (and the best way to return) and do I have to worry about what time boats stop running, etc.? We will have a rental car but I like to use the transportation some unless it just doesn't make sense.

Campinggal and Kimmar
Also has anyone stayed in the Honeymoon Suite? I am understanding what i am reading correctly and that is does not have a balcony? Do you think it is worth the extra money? You get a jacuzzi tub and king size bed though right?

Sorry I ask so many questions but this is a very important decision.

Here's a picture of one of the honeymoon suite balconies on the MK woodsview taken when we were at WL in early October 2006.

I have a standard room booked from Jan 27-Feb 1. I would love to have a MK view but I'm also concerned about the noise level of the service area. I have 2 little ones (4 & 2) and my 2yr old especially is a light sleeper. Should I make a specific request at check-in? or ahead of time? I'm actually crossing my fingers for an upgrade to a woods view (w/a MK view! :) ) but we'll just have to wait and see. I'm just so excited to be staying at the WL! Only 22 more days!

Any suggestions? I just read a post about someone plugging their ears because of the service noise at night. I'm nervous about this.

The others I can't really help with but as for going to the Poly. I would take the ferry to MK and then take the monorail. That's my HO anyway.

From the WL I would take the boat to MK and then either walk or take the monorail to Poly. Or you could take the boat to the contemporary and then the monorail to the Poly from there.

My husband, son and I are planning a trip to WL in Dec of '08. Our last trip in 5/06 we ate way too much and spent SO much money eating. Here's my thinking for those of you who have stayed on the concierge level. The food they offer...it's it ample enough? We need only a light breakfast, we would go out for a late lunch and I was hoping that the food offered in the evening would be enough (mind you we would not be gorging ourselves). We ate too much last time, I'm trying to figure a way to justify concierge and maybe help off set the cost of eating.

I'm wondering about how much to budget for a 7 day trip to WDW next late January 2008. Can anyone tell me what they paid this Jan for a bunk bed room? Were you able to get a deal or a package with free dining?

Thanks -

SBS

You don't pay more the bunk bed you pay more for your view. So before your questioned can be answered you need to know where in the lodge you want to stay or are you in an "iron lung" budget?

well, for '07 the woods view bunk bed rate is 260 and the courtyard view bunk rate is 295 (w/o tax).
this year, there was an AP (room only) discount that was $80 off these rates.
I think there was also a package deal offered for the 1st 6 wks of the year (not including MLK day wknd) which was similar... you may want to post on the codes/rates boards for more info.

I do not have a suggestion as I just went with luck of the draw. We had a courtyard view room booked in Sept and were upgraded to concierge. Our room looked out over the service area. But hey, I was not about to complain! The only issue we had was that we were also across from the indoor service elevator and that darn thing ran from I would say 5 a.m. to midnight. I had a hard time sleeping but I am a difficult sleeper anyway. We have to stay deluxe because there is no way I will get to sleep with outside corridors for instance. The concierge desk tried to move us but it was full so they kindly gave me some earplugs and that worked dandy. As far as noise from the service area itself, we heard nothing. But we were on the 6th floor and I could see it being a problem if you were lower. We also could see the MK fireworks from our balcony but the staff did make a comment that that was one of the only rooms you could see them from.

As for the question about concierge and food, I would say that with eating lunch out and if you are not picky, you would be fine. Breakfast was wonderful and we had the free dining plan so we did have a TS meal each day. We ended up with extra credits though mainly in part to having drinks available and because one of the nights we were intending on going to Roaring Forks we were just too tired and got something from the evening concierge offerings. On the night we went to Artist Point, we came back and just peeked in the lounge and lo and behold the Berry Cobbler I had been dying for and had just eaten was there in the lounge. I was too full though!!
