Very lovely pictures!

I have to make a quick comment on the room distances and getting to the elevators...

We have stayed at the Dolphin for the past five Junes... (sorry I don't have the room numbers convenient. lol) Our first trip we were amazed as to how immense the hotel was - and how long that walk was to the elevator. lol But we amused ourselves by our daughter jumping patterns on the carpeting to get to the elevator. :goodvibes

The next three visits, we were in similiar areas - not as long of a walk, but still not near the elevators.

This year - we had a 2nd floor room overlooking the Grotto Pool and Swan boats. We had a "secret staircase" that took us directly to our hallway, and never had the need to walk through the main lobby. Very convenient.

You know what? I missed my long walk through the main lobby to the elevator banks. :lmao: I am such a sucker for the loveliness of that lobby and comfy couches and pretty fountain. (ok, and the lobby bar and the espresso martinis ...:rolleyes1)

What if you were on the 14th floor? :tiptoe: :yay:

Oh, forgot to comment on the room pics, jnfr. Just beautiful! I will see if I can upload some pics of my view soom. I was in 6082. View of the fountain (which, alas, was not running!)

I love seeing the Swan paddleboats in the lake in your pic!

Thanks so much everybody!! The room number was 7133 and like I had mentioned before it was right next to the elevator so you know how happy we were when we finally got to the West Wing on the 1st floor!!
That's right the band was set in the fountain! We were on our way to DHS when they turned the fountain back on!
I usually love the 9th floor West wing facing east so I can see when the swan boats go out, check out the causeway, and watch characters in flight go up!
I am looking forward to Thanksgiving for my next trip to the Dolphin!

Just wanted to say thanks for getting back to me. Our trip isn't until Aprill '11, but one thing I am noticing around here.....it is never to early to plan. This will only be our 2nd trip ever, but I have all reservations made including restaurants and our daily "schedule" done (I learned from a relative that has experience at DW).
So if I understand correctly, we could drive (out own car) from the Swan to the Contemporary, but parking may be an issue when I get back. Or we could just take a bus to the MK and walk from there. What are thoughts on taking the bus to the transportation station and just getting on the monorail? I realize it might take a little longer, but just asking experts around here.

Thanks again,

MAP

Maybe this is outside the scope of this thread, but when the Disney owned hotels run discounts, do the S/D generally try to do something as well? (Obviously not necessarily the same discount.)

Just booked @ the Dolphin this afternoon for our December trip before our cruise. ;) We have not stayed at the Dolphin since 2006, looking forward to seeing the renovated rooms and Santa! :santa:

BTW, the Christmas tree in the Dolphin lobby last year was great!

I do not think they necessarily try to run in tandem or directly compete, but I would say that S/D generally has some kinds of discount, often many, running almost all the time.

Hey Sideshow. :wave2:

Just wanted to say hi:)

Cant believe your Ava is already 11 and mine is 4! Have a great time at the Dolphin..I know you love it there! (or did you already go??:rotfl2:)

Hi there! So good to "see" you! Great picture below...was that after the recent race?

Yes, we just returned. I am so bummed, such a "Disney hangover" when I come home. Were you there in the beginning of the month? We stayed 3 nights, Oct 7, 8 and 9.

oh, you have so many great years of Disney ahead of you with your Ava! I will admit to being a wee bit envious. My advice to you....go as often as you can...even in elementary...take her out of school and go in the off season! Now that my Ava is in middle school, we cannot go during the week as often as we like, the makeup work is just too much. We went A LOT when she was little, and I still wish we would have gone more!!!

May not get back to WDW until next fall. I just booked BLT today! I am excited, never stayed there! But...just might squeeze in another trip to the Dolphin if they run any specials.

Have a good night!

Beautiful pictures, jnfr and Rachel, thanks.

And thank you, mydisneyobsession, for the great website deal at:

That's great, Bay Hill. i just made my reservation yesterday, too, for December. Did you happen to get the $122.50 a night "SANTA" deal?

Hi, map57. Either way is fine, but the way Dan stated might be faster.

If you didn't want to take the bus to MK and walk, you could also take the monorail from Mk.

If you go to the ticket station by driving your car to the MK parking lot and tram, you could take the monorail, too and visit the Polynesian Resort and the Grand Floridian Resort, too.

The stops from the ticket station for the monorail are first to the Poly, then the GF, then MK, and finally the Contemporary Resort and then back to the ticket station.

I love riding the monorail and visiting the other resorts, too.

I haven't stayed at S/D yet (first time staying there will be next June), but I'm pretty sure all buses to the MK from any resort let off in front of the MK -- they don't drop off at TTC. I guess you could take a cab to the TTC and then take the monorail, but for that matter, you could just take a cab to the CR directly. I personally don't think you'll have a problem parking back at the hotel when you get back that evening if you're not going until next April, but I"ll let the experts advise on that since I don't have first-hand knowledge.
