I have to be in the mood for a conversation movie. I have to be able to concentrate for 2 hours on the movie. With my three kiddos(sometimes royal pains in the necks!), I have to multitask so much that I can't concentrate like that for a long time! I lost that ability somewhere and I can't find it! Might be the painkillers I am on????

no not the pain killer but the time in your life.. happens to the rest of us too.. i think it is the MOM thing.. BTW look under the couch at OKW maybe you will find it..

What's your favorite OKW memory..

Mine is one time we were on the 3rd floor unit, near South Pond facing Epcot.. we had come back early from the parks, I had a wonderful meal cooking in the slow cooker in the room, the kids had their baths and we were sitting on the balcony enjoying our dinner and Dove bars and watching the Epcot fireworks and then the MGM.. LIFE does not get any better than this..

My thoughts exactly!!!! Nobody works on Mondays?

The Q&A:

1) Fly or drive to Disney World?
Fly--we drove our first 2 trips and saw some of the rest of Florida; I'd like to do that again. But this means rent a car in Florida, not drive from Ohio. When we first drove from Ohio and we got to Georgia, we kids were excited: "Only one more state! We're almost there!" Ha.
2) Fantasmic or Illuminations?
Fantasmic 'cuz I haven't seen it yet.
3) Favorite DL park - California Adventure or Disney land??
The original Magic Kingdom, thank you!
4) MK or Epcot?
BOTH
5) Monorail or ferry to MK?
Monorail there, ferry back.
6) Carribbean Beach or Port Orleans French Quarter?
I've stayed at CB and I haven't repeated a resort yet, so POFQ.
7) What is everyone doing on Valentines Day?
Dunno yet. Hopefully it involves chocolate.;)
8) How do you do parks? Commando, or take-it-easy?
Take it easy. It's vacation for Pete's sake!
9) Fireworks or parade?
Neither. They are excellent times to go on popular rides.
10) Disney Cruise or WDW?
WDW all the way, baby!

I remember the first time I walked into the 2 bedroom on our first trip there. My best friend from high school joined DVC like in 1992 and she took us in 1997. I did not expect it to look as wonderful as it did. It was incredible. Right then and there I knew we needed to become a part of the magic...yes, we belonged!!!! Like the song goes!

I love sitting on the porch. We usually get first floor so the kids can feed the kritters that come by. We even had a bunny eat some chocolate muffin (hope we did not poison the little buggar!)! Kids in bed, great day at the parks, favorite drinks in hand and watching the lights from PI! If we get South Point (favorite location), we love to watch the boats go by to Downtown Disney from the porch! I also love hearing "Welcome Home", OKW is our second home and it is fantastic! I wanna go home now!!!!

I got my Mickey Mouse slippers on, ready to watch the flick! What could be better than this?

Just got back from walking the dog, once I get DS9 tucked in, then I'll be free to enjoy the movie with you! :)

......the cheesecake brownies sound heavenly, but I can only have a few as I am dieting so I'll be able to fit inside geffric's suitcase so she can sneak me onto her Disney Cruise in March!!:teeth:

:earseek: :earseek: and double:earseek:

Geez I thought I could catch up real easy.

I just got done chopping up the ice on our sidewalk (thank goodness it finally got warm enough!). I come in and get all settled down and what do I find? _____ or _____ and DVC, Oh My!! I've just gone through 10 pages.

Well, here goes.

We've flown and we'll be driving (get back to you later)
Illuminations
Been to neither
MK
Monorail (it's cooler)
Haven't been to POFQ and will be at CBR this Aug. (another get back to you later)
I'll be waiting for the day after so I can buy bunches of candy at half off.
We take it easy (been there - got more to see - will be back)
Fireworks
Haven't cruised yet so I'll say WDW

Oh Boy, don't want to miss the movie. (do you think we could have a matinee Wed. or Thurs. - my DH days off)

Got on my new Pooh jammies and am ready for the movie ;)

Big sale at Disney outlet this past weekend...plus a postcard coupon for 25% off total plus 20% off one item...WA HOO!!

I got my jammies, the Mickey pizzelle maker, Peter Pan ornaments, and a Tink robe for DD!! Oh, she also got a Princess Aurora "thing"....it has a gel screen on the front that she writes on with a plastic pencil....possibly the ugliest incarnation of Princess Aurora I've ever seen! Yikes!!

But since I've got my new Pizzelle maker, I'll whip up a batch and bring them to the movie! Chocolate ones, of course!

Rest of the questions...
WDW, of course!!
Been to neither DL or CA, but want to go!! Who'll take me?

Katie

Where's South Point? We're heading down this weekend to OKW (our first stay) and I'd love to find out anything about the property.

Thanks!!
Ginny

Anyone who wants to go to DL or DCA.....I'll be glad to show you around...had an annual pass for two years, went about a dozen times.....we MUST stay at the Grand Californian however, so save your pennies!

BTW, the pineapple angelfood cake has ABSOLUTELY no fat! Just be careful how much carmel or chocolate you drizzel on it.;)

That was YOU that was going to OKW! I thought you were someone else earlier this afternoon....I got so confused!

Okay, there are five different areas in OKW. It is a large resort and very spread out around a golf course. The views from your porch/balcony has views of the golf course, water, or woods. Wonderful! South Point is one of the farthest away from the front of the resort (aka Hospitality House). It has lovely views of the water way to Downtown Disney, it is nice an quiet. There is a pool near this area. The other area farther back form Hospitality House is Turtle Pond. It also has a pool and at the pool is a snack shack. Then there is Miller's Road which is a little walk to the front and it has a pool there. Penninsular is the fourth which is a few minute walk to the front. and then finally is Hospitality House. Each area has it's own bus stop.

Bus route: Pennisular, South Point, Turtle Pond, Miller's Road, and finally Hospitality House. Do you have a car or are you relying on the buses? If the buses, Pennisular is a great area to stay because if you miss your bus you wanted, you can walk to the Hospitality House and catch that same bus before it heads out to the parks. South Point and Turtle Pond are not great places to stay if you don't have a car and don't have the patience to catch a bus to the front for any sundries you may need at the General Store there. Hospitality House has the biggest pool of the four at OKW. Soon, there will be a slide there, but we don't know when it will be done.

There is one sit down restaurant, Olivias. I like it a lot. There is also a few snack areas there. You can rent boats, play tennis, basketball, ride bikes, etc. from the Hospitality House. Take the Trumbo boat to Downtown Disney. It is like a 20 minute boat ride to Downtown Disney and it is one of the nicest things to do at OKW. We love it!

What size villa are you staying in? I can try and find a map of OKW for you here on this site if you need. Any other questions, let me know.

I think you will really like OKW. It is a great resort. It is NOT a moderate or value as some people on the DVC forum try to make it sound like. It it truly a wonderful place! Hope this helps!

A Pair of Deuces, you can't bluff with that!...

Oh, sorry, got lost in the game...I'm loosing anyway, maybe I need some more exercizes...

OK, I'll sit this next hand out and do some more math...

For our trip in May, the Rack Rate is $473.88 a night. My DVC Rate is $355.41 a night. I had to update it to include the 11.5% tax. Here how it works out...

If I were to not be a DVC Member, and want to rent a 1 BR, it would cost me $3791 for 8 days "Rack Rate".

Since I am DVC, I get a lower rate (which is probably closer to what anyone would pay)...$355.41/night, translates to $2843.25.

At 280 points,
at $6 a point- my HARD COST for the room is $1680.
If I had rented points-$10 a point, it would have been $2800.
There is no Hotel Tax on the points.

A lot better than Rack Rate, but using your own points is definitely better.

this disproves the adage; it is cheaper to rent than to buy.
-----------------
OK, here's the next part, I am paying $355.41 for 1 weekend night. 56 points... Cost of points...$336, to rent is $560. So, the same theory holds true. Paying for the room is cheaper than renting.
----------------------
Oh, and BTW, all I can say about the 5/room is what Member services told me this afternoon, but I'll accept that they try to be more lenient than the contract states. I was just now driving DTA and VWL front desk a little crazy for Rack rates and Taxes, they both told me 4 adults and an infant.
----------------------
Am I in Time out yet, I just spent almost 2 hours researching an esoteric point, and had to start over again because I didn't add the hotel tax (which changed the answer) I feel like I am back in school...taking an exam.

Favorite OKW Memory...The night after I proposed to RRBB we were calling family, and (since both of her parents have passed away) I had to ask someone for permission to marry her. I settled on her very young niece who had been telling everyone she was going to marry RRBB's ohanafamily. RRBB remembers it differently...but I have my memory...

:bounce:

ohanafamily you are right with the four and one infant. That was what I was trying to say. It gets questionable when I want to bring all three of my kiddos when the youngest is 6 in the one bedroom. The sales reps will say that is okay to bring an air matress with this group, but contractually, not. Personally, I don't see the problem with that size unit, but I do understand when we add one, why not add another and another and another. There has to be proper limits established to avoid rabid misuse!

Thanks to a special angel, here is a map to OKW.http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/okwmap.html
