I was just at the Poly a week ago and I am wondering about some trees that I saw.Does anyone know what the yellow flowering trees are? They have no foliage just balls of yellow flowers at the end of the branches. Do you also know if they bloom all the time or did I just happen to be there at the right time to see these unusual trees?

My family along with my parents (it's a surprise) are booked for the first time CL, and one of the reasons is for the enjoyment of the food offerings while we are there. I noticed on the WDW site that it lists CL as having wine and cheese from 5-7 pm. Do you think with cutbacks they will eliminate the other foods? I just wonder why they did not mention it in order to make the CL stay even more attractive.:confused3

Thanks!

I just wanted to add that I decided to change my ressie again and decided since I'm only going to be at WDW for 2 days, might as well stay where I love. I broke down and changed my ressie for 2 nights at the Polynesian and in a GVC room. I'm not too crazy about the price but this will be my 4th stay at the Poly and what a better way to celebrate my birthday than at the Polynesian. I was going to try something different at WDW this time, but life is too short and with this economy, who knows when I'll be able to visit again? A job loss can happen at anytime to just about anybody.

So my wife and I decided to do 2 nights club level and just relax. We only are doing MK for one of the 2 days there and lounging around the pool for the remainder of our stay. The Polynesian has a special place in the hearts of my family and many good time were shared there. So in the end it wasn't that hard of a decision.;)

I can't wait for the first week of May to get here.

:goodvibes ~~Thanks everyone for all of the helpful info on this thread, we finally arrive tomorrow!~~:banana::banana:

Hello to everyone here... I hope someone is willing to help. I am sure that somewhere in the 200 plus pages my questions would be answered, but I really would hope someone could just help..

We have always stayed at Pop. Family of 4. DD16 now and DS13, so no more bed sharing for them. We have heard great things about this resort and I would like to know the following:

Best room for me: I am disabled and while I have escaped using a wheelchair, I am slow and sore while walking. I would like a room close to transporation and stuff, but not on the "noise track".

DD had smoke induced asthma attacks. This was very uncomfortable for her at Pop last Sept as people were smoking everywhere and a designated smoking area is near the food court:confused3. The poor thing had to walk around buildings just to get somewhere without an attack.

Would this resort be accomodating for us, and where would you recommend staying within the resort and what area's would we have to avoid. Thank you all for helping. Diane

Even with cutbacks I don't think the other foods will be eliminated. :goodvibes They say 'wine and cheese' from 5-7 but at the Poly's CL they have a more substantial fare as the CL has its own kitchen. Several folks here will be staying CL at the Poly within the next few weeks (like mmmears) and will be able to give a more detailed report.

The wait is killer, isn't it? :goodvibes The Poly has a special place in my family's heart and while the cost was a pain in my wallet, the memories are so worth it. Now that my DD9 is getting older, she still loves the Poly but now she wants to go to Disneyland these days. I'm glad I got to spend the time with her at the Poly that I did. I've never regretted it. :thumbsup2

The Niue building (right next to a side entrance to the GCH) is a good location. Another good choice would be Rarotonga. "noise" is somewhat relative as I've never found the resort to be overtly 'loud'. :goodvibes

As someone who has very bad allergies and is VERY sensitive to cigarette smoke, this was the only 'con' I had concerning Pop. I can completely relate to your DD on this. I didn't have any such problems at the Poly. I will suggest that just in case some folks decide to smoke on the main drag into the GCH, I'd advise using the side entrances into the GCH (next to Niue and the other next to Tonga). No smoke there. :thumbsup2

I've found the CMs at the Poly to be very accomodating. In addition to noting your needs on your reservation, reiterate them at check-in as well. Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

Here is a link to a Polynesian map with the Designated Smoking Areas:

Tink is here! Hey Diane!
The people here are so helpful, even when they are not aware they are. LOL I do a great deal of reading and have learned so much for my first Poly stay.

Matt'sMom (Or anyone else who knows the answer), I saw that on your December trip to the poly you rented a recliner for your dad. My 70 y.o. dad would love to have one on our upcoming trip in May. How did you do the rental? From where? How much? Thank you!

Well, I am just back from the Polynesian and I swear I think it was our best trip ever. Sorry not to have posted live as promised. Actually, I did post from there a time or two but didn't disclose it at the time...
Anyway, I'll post pics soon. Picabo - I was there when you asked about the beach toys and I have photos and prices for you ;)
We had BEAUTIFUL weather and the CMs were SO FRIENDLY and On-line check-in is almost ridiculously easy :cool1:
CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN!!
mmmears, you are in for such a treat :cutie::banana::cloud9::dance3:

Thank you
We were put in Niue and I LOVED it :lovestruc I'd been curious about it in the past b/c I've walked thru it to get to Hawaii longhouse from the parking lot before in the rain. Niue is very small - short AND has only 2 floors. We absolutely LOVED it. We had a ground floor room and I am a TOTAL convert
I had not made any requests but I got this little gem of a room. Having the patio was so wonderful and provided us a freedom we've never had on any of our previous stays. The girls could walk from the sliding glass doors out to the pools(s) with such ease :cool1:
Also, Niue is SO convenient to the GCH (just steps away), Quiet Pool and Volcano Pool. And b/c the bldg. is so tiny, you spend almost no time walking the halls indoors. You're right at your door! It was great.

Niue sounds delightful. I've wondered about staying there too but have only done the rain shortcut.:goodvibes

We love first floor rooms at the Polynesian but never request them anywhere else.

Anything new at the Polynesian. Are they still working on any of the roofs?

Beautiful photos, johnsonet. :wizard: Wish I were there!:goodvibes

The photos were beautiful....can't wait until May.

I did have a question...How big are the refridgerators in the Poly rooms?

Funny! Yes, Hawaii's roof is green - but only on the quiet pool side. I saw no workers though :confused3

Actually, the (nearly) flat part of Hawaii's roof on the Lagoon side is green too!

Thank you. You are going to have a GREAT time :cool1: The fridge isn't large but it's a decent size. I made a trip to Whole Fods for some staples :cutie:
