You mentioned the elevators are small, does anyone know if that's the standard around the resort? We are also a family of 6 and I hate hate elevators as it is and when they are crowded it's even worse.

I've been out all day, and came home to read about the ending of Tikiman's website...:sad2:

This is a real shame, we were lucky enough to meet Steve and his lovely family at the last Tiki-Fest. His is a truly professional resort info website and will be sorely missed :sad2:

Oh, no! Not Tikiman! We love Steve at our house! We so enjoy going to the GCH page and listening to the music. We take turns going back to the computer to refresh the page so the music will start again!

I am so sad about this!
:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Another question for all of you. :)

That Lapu- Lapu drink, the one in the pineapple - can you get that drink (or any drink) without alcohol or do you have to get that specific drink in order to get the pineapple?

My fantasy is to sit by the pool drinking fruit juice and Sprite out of one of those. :goodvibes

It seems to me that the elevators in the newer longhouses are a bit larger. The one in Hawaii is a normal sized one.

But I think the stairs were intended to provide access for the majority of guests. Unlike many resorts, the stairs are a prominent part of the longhouses. There is even a porch area by the stairs in Niue. There are outside staircases at both ends of every longhouse.

I am still so bummed about this. :sad1: Tikiman's site reassured me that I wasn't the only person smitten by the Poly. Well, that and this thread. ;)

Thanks for the info about the elevators, we will have a wheelchair with us, so at least a couple of people will need to use the elevator on a regular basis. We didn't request one of the newer longhouses, but hopefully we'll be okay. We may even get a ground floor (something we requested, but don't have to have), we are fine with using an elevator if we need to as long as it's not super packed so I don't get to claustrophobic.

Okay need some help. We are going to disney for the first time and my mother-in-law is coming with us. She has no idea where we are staying. I am texting her fun fax about the Poly without mentioning the name of the resort. The first clue I sent was only resort you can sit in the pool and watch magic kingdom fireworks. Can you all suggest others to send her. We still have 24 more days to go and would like to make this fun! Thanks!:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Great information! Sounds like we'll be taking the stairs (I hate elevators, anyway). Unless, of course, we end up on the first floor!;)

I am so bumed about this as well. He did say in the email he was trying to get the photos and things thike that together somehow. Such a shame, I kept hoping that the site was just going to be revamped.

Had to say I too am sad to see Tikimans site closing:sad1: It was an invaluable resource for our first Poly trip and now that we are planning another, it was the first place I referenced.

Thanks and you will be missed:upsidedow

We just booked our first stay at the ploy!!!:cool1: I'm loving this thread! I also looked over at Tikimans site! What a great source of information, its sad hes shutting it down!

How about (for those who've been to the Poly) sharing your favorite moments there at the resort! Or any special TIPS that general public may not know about!

Such as - is there any place better than another for viewing Wishes and/or the Water Pagent??

I'm so upset about Tikiman's site closing :( I check it every so often for any updates. :(

I have a question. I requested 3rd floor Tuvalu and I'm booked MKV. Has anyone stayed in this long house? My worry is that its to far from everything, and I haven't seen many pictures of views from there and everyone raves about Tahiti. Im starting to second guess myself any one have any experience in Tuvalu?

I just started reading disboards last week, I'm hardly getting anything else accomplished! I'm up to page 45 on this Polynesian thread.

I just created my countdown ticker so I had to post to check it out.

:welcome: to the DISboards Kathy Z! You'll love it here :) and your ticket looks pretty spiffy if I do say so myself!

We're planning to stay here in Oct. with the in-laws. Do they have turn down service with the chocolates on the pillow? We stayed at the Grand Floridian for the 1st time in February and loved this service! :goodvibes

Also, is the hula dance still offered in the Great Ceremonial House? I saw the schedule on the 1st page of this thread and thought my kids would love to do that! Anyone every experienced it? Thanks!

Turn down is automatic at the concierge level and by request at all others. All you need do is call and request turn down. Chocolates are part of the turn down service.

Hula lessons were a part of the program when we were there last, but as with all things, subject to change on any given day. It is best to check the schedule of events when you arrive. The kids are so cute when they are learning. . .
