Thank you all for the info. We will be staying in early May of next year (366 days until our wedding... 1 year from tomorrow!!!). :cool1: So, we will get 10% off our room. Looks like we will save around $400 at the Poly. Still not sure if we can do it since we want to buy a home before we get married, but with my Fiance passing his paramedic test and upgrading to paramedic soon with a higher pay, we just might be able to do it all! :thumbsup2

Is there any discount with the package, or just the room portion? I was always confused by this.

So, again thanks for the info!

ARe you getting married May 2, then staying at the Poly?? Congrats!! We'll be there May 1-8 next year!

Can you get turn down service even if your not doing concierge level? and is it an extra charge? We are staying garden view for our first time ever to WDW and sooooo excited for our trip!!!

1st Question: I have been trying to get a dinner reservation at Ohanas for June 14th with no luck. Do you think if we went down there when it opens we will be able to get in?

2nd Question: We are staying at the Poly, I want to do something for my husband for Fathers day. I would like to have something left in our room for a surprise. Is cake my only option , or has someone did some other kid of dessert?? Thanks in advance!!

Keep trying on a daily basis. People cancel out all the time. Ohanas may open additional spots as you get closer. When I was looking for a specific date and place I would call every day. Yeah, I am a bit OCD :rolleyes1 Serious....things open up every day. :goodvibes

I have used: http://www.peggyssweetsandmore.com/

She is a member here on the DIS and does wonderful work. Take a look at her site there are so many different items she offers. I had her do a basket for my husband which he still talks about. Her work is beautiful and she will do everything in her power to find the item you may be looking for. She can do as much or little as you like. The basket is delivered to your hotel room. I have used her on three occassions and certainly will in the future. She is a wonderful and kind person too. :goodvibes

I have a suggestion, you may want to check out if it would work into your plans and budget. They have fireworks cruises that leave right from the Poly dock. I arranged a cruise on our last trip. It is on a pontoon boat so there is plenty of room to relax and enjoy your family and cruise. You can arrange to have a cake delivered from either the GF or CR bakery. It comes with plates, forks and knife. What a wonderful way to surprise your husband while giving your family a wonderful evening and memory.

Yes you can request it. There is no extra charge for it, so if you want to tip the Mousekeeper who does it for you that is your choice.

Hi Letsgofam, You are certainly staying at a fantastic resort for your first visit. :) Every guest is entitled to turn down service at the Poly and there isn't a charge. What I would suggest is to request turn down at the desk when you check in. However, be sure you ask for it each evening of your stay. Then, as a follow up to that, call housekeeping once you are in your room and settled in a bit. Again, request it for each night of your stay.

I learned this after receiving turn down on just our first night. I called the morning of the thrid day and was told that I didn't request it for every night of our stay. :confused3 You can be sure I won't make that mistake again. :rolleyes1

Have a super great trip and please come back here and let us know how your vacation was.

HI CR RESORT FAN - you and I were posting at the same time. I got side tracked watching DISNEY ROYAL TREATMENT on the Travel Channel :rolleyes1

Is there Wireless at the Poly or are you forced to use the laptop in the room? Ideally the hubby would like to take his laptop and cell phone to a quiet area and get some work done each day while I stay with our son and take a nap. Thoughts?

Wireless is not available at the Polynesian.

It is available at the Grand Floridian (next stop on the monorail) or the Contemporary, as they're convention resorts.

Thanks! I was really hoping that was true!

My son took one look at pictures of the food at Ohana and said "I'm not eating that stuff!"

I know what you mean. :lmao: After three visits to 'Ohana the only thing my DD8 wants to do there is eat the sesame chicken wings and sing with Lipoa.

Just so you're aware, you will have to ask what is available for the kids to have to eat. For some reason, only one of the three times we've eaten there have the servers made me aware there were other selections for the kids. DD8 knows to ask right up front at every restaurant, "What food do you have for kids?" :goodvibes

I love this thread!

We are going in July 2008 and I have learned so much about the Poly!

We book a GV. I tried to get DH to spring for the LV but no luck! Perhaps we will be fortunat to receive a magical upgrade.

But, we are planning on spening more than half our time at the Poly. We will go to the parks but my kids love to be by the pool and hubby and I like to relax on the balcony with a glass of wine while they sleep (so a good view would be wonderful).

I was going to request 3rd floor Tokelau. Does that sound like a good selection for us?

Aliceacc- Thank you for clearing that up. That is what I thought the discount would be, but I just wanted to make sure.

sandym718- We will be getting married on May 2 (less than a year away now :cool1:), and we will probably fly to Orlando Monday May 4. I really don't want to take the 7-hour flight the morning after my wedding. I want time to open presents!!! :lmao:

Thanks again everyone for the info! Still hoping we can swing the cost of the Poly. But the theory I tell my DFi is that we can drive 2 hours and be in the mountains, so even though the Wilderness Lodge would be less expensive, we can get that atmosphere around here almost whenever we would like to. But, how often do we get to go to Hawaii? Very rarely... Luckily, he agrees!!! :thumbsup2

I think DH has finally given me the "go-ahead" to book the Poly for this Sept-Oct!!! :cool1:  :cool1:
This would be our 3rd year in a row going to Disney, so he's been on the fence for a while. (actually I think he's just embarassed about telling the guys at work that we are going again ;) )
We've never stayed at the Poly, but we ate at Ohana's last Sept. and I just knew I had to stay here the next time! I just can't believe I get to start planning all over again- it's my favorite thing to do. And this thread is awesome! I've been reading it slowly for the past week or so -it's quite long & I think I'm halfway through. I'm sure I'll be posting lots of questions in the coming weeks/months!!
Yeah I'm so excited!!! Now just hoping for some pixie dust for one of those magic "codes"!! :tinker:

We will be going to the Poly this coming Thursday. Can someone please tell me exactly what "turn down" service is? We booked a MK view room and I put in a request for Tahiti, 3rd floor. I hope my request will be met.

If you get it, make sure to take some pic, and post them. That is exactly what I want for our December trip.

Turn Down Service is when a Mousekeeper comes to your room and fixes up the beds, cleans the garbage, gets you new towels, leaves some mini chocolates on your pillows and they might turn the radio on with some soft type music or turn your TV on. It's done automatically for Club Level guests staying in the Hawaii Longhouse and guests staying in the suites in the Tonga Longhouse. So that is something you need to request when you arrive since you have a Magic Kingdom view reservation.

That sounds like a great request; Tokelau is in a very good location, especially if you want to go to TTC to catch the Epcot monorail, or buses to AK and DHS, and it's convenient to the Great Ceremonial House, and not far past the Hawaii building to the marina and boat to the MK.

I love your plan to spend time AT the resort, as well as in the parks. When I'm at the Polynesian, I really hate to leave it sometimes to go to the parks. LOL

My favorite spot in all of Walt Disney World is the pool area of the Polynesian resort, looking out towards the castle and all of the activity on the lagoon. I love the sights and sounds of it all, including the people laughing and playing in the volcano pool.

Well two weeks from today I'll be arriving there.... :cloud9: I'll be sure to come back with a lot of pictures. :3dglasses

Just back from the World and my stay at the Poly was outstanding. If you have booked a Garden View my third floor east facing room in Tokelau was perfect. A lush courtyard view from the balcony was always a treat. And very quiet. But it was the access to everything. You are in the middle. Highly recommended.
