Hello Friends!

We're just back from the Poly... first stay here, but certainly not the last, believe we're hooked! I've wanted to stay at the Poly since my first vist back in the early 70's... so glad the Grand was full and we booked this hotel!
Let's see... we requested a room in Tokelau, but were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to Hawaii! Awesome!

We bought the meal plan that includes three meals and two snacks daily. Even though we're 'foodies', don't think it's possible to eat three sit down meals per day, even on vacation... A few of the restaurants we booked (Cali Grill, Brown Derby) are two points for a meal, so this was a good plan for us.
We didn't know we were getting this fab upgrade to Concierge in Hawaii, really incredible! We ate breakfast there every morning, but didn't really visit much after that because our days were full with Parks!

We had lunch and dinners at Garden Grill in Epcot, nice little character lunch, but not great. Coral Reef lunch was Excellent! Food, Fish and Service, exceptional, don't miss it! Dinner at California Grill, Brown Derby and Chefs de France also highly, highly recommended! Character breakfast at Ohana's was a nice surprise, very good and right in our hotel. Our last meal was a quick lunch in the coffee shop at the Poly (forgot the name) and it was excellent, also, an unexpected surprise.
We left with 8 meals still on our account, because of the breakfast's we enjoyed in our upgrade to Concierge level. Had a bunch of snacks left, too, but picked up some fruit, water, chips and Mickey Treat pops for the trip home.

An Interesting Note:
While waiting to have dinner in Paris, 8:20 reservation, someone came to the desk and checked in, they had a 5:30 reservation, which was honored at 8pm. So don't stress about being late for dinner reservation, seems unimportant...Dinner in Paris was great, and we were able to step out of the restaurants to see the Illuminations show, the staff had actually suggested that we do that to enjoy the fireworks, just beautiful!

Another Note:Since this was a 'spur of the moment' trip, had some challenges booking a character breakfast. On our last day of vacation, we we're up very early and went over to Ohana's to see if we could get a table. We were sat almost immediately, just before 8am, and it was great!

Our DD stayed one night in Neverland, and it was great! DH and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at Cali Grill and she enjoyed her visit. Highly recommend Neverland club for the kids (my DD is 9 years old).

We upgraded to a 10 day pass, can't wait to go back again! I'm hoping for a November trip (NJ Teacher's Convention), but DH says we should wait until next May...

One More Note:
Using Express service from airport... Our flight was delayed 2 hours, we arrived just before midnight to the hotel. Our bags went via Express, and we learned that it could take up to THREE HOURS for our bags to arrive to our room. Be Aware of this! Especially if your arrival is late, and you would like to sleep in pajamas as opposed to the clothes you wore on the flight!
If someone would have told us this, we would have picked up our bags after the flight and put them on the bus, which apparently can be done, but no one told us about this, or the delay in getting bags to your room.
Our bags arrived at 3am, not so great, but a lesson learned. Just wish someone on the Express staff (a greeter, an escort to the bus, a guide and an bus driver) would have explained this.

In a nutshell... Totally Awesome, everything! (except for the luggage delay)
Weather, Crowds, Poly, Restaurants, just perfect!

How many nights are you booked for? I really want to stay at the Poly for my Disneymoon, we are AAA members, and I am wondering how much they will save us for a 10 night trip.

Thanks in advance!

We are staying 10 nights at the Poly in August. We have 10 day park hoppers and the DxDP. AAA saved us $600 off the quote Disney gave us, which is over 10%. It's not a whole lot, but I'm happy to save money any way I can. :thumbsup2

We have APs (expiring in a week :sad1:) and they saved us money on a lot of trips over the past year. The room-only savings is bigger with APs than with AAA. So, it's something to consider. Unfortunately, we won't be able to go to WDW as much this year, so we're not renewing the APs.

I also forgot to mention that I too booked the Poly photo shoot for May 14th. Of course I'll post back with the pics. :)

Also for those at the Poly between now and May 10th, you can get a free photo shoot done if you are a guest staying at the Poly. Don't know the exact details on this, but it was on their hold message when calling the Poly photopass number.

Speaking of pics, does anyone have any request for photos or information while I'm there? I'll be happy to snap pics of something that someone wanted to see or had a question about.

Thanks for the tip! I just called and made our reservation for May 9th. I am not sure exactly what it entails - the photographer told us we were need to sign a waiver allowing WDW to use our pictures. It sounds like we might get the photocd free?? That would be great - but I was kind of fuzzy on the deal we were getting. Either way we were going planning on doing it. I am so excited we leave in a week!!

OK - I just plowed through all 94 pages of this thread (not to mention the Poly photos thread as well!). Thank you for all the terrific information everyone.

I am soooo excited - I recently upgraded my free dining reservation from POR to the Poly! Staying at the Poly has been my dream ever since we first started going to WDW, and I am finally getting to do it. And this morning I added a sixth day to our reservation (someone stop me before I go completely overboard!).

I will be going without my husband - just me and the 4 kids :scared1: . They are 7, 10, 13 & 16, and all really great kids, so we will be fine! In fact, it is only because my husband decided to stay home for this trip that we can consider staying at the Poly - with the 6 of us the price of 2 rooms is simply out of the question.

Each longhouse location seems to have its own plusses, and I can't decide what would be best, so I am going to request a balcony or a patio (very important to me), and leave the longhouse selection up to the Tiki Gods!

I do have a couple of questions for you experts:

-Since I am going for free dining I have already made most of my ADRs - however since I just added one more night I was thinking of adding a reservation at Ohana. It looks like a lot of fun! However, two of my kids really don't care much for grilled meat. Are there any alternatives available? I know sometimes WDW restaurants have things like mac & cheese and chicken fingers available, even if they don't advertise them much. Anyone have experience with this?

- What time is the torch lighting ceremony? My kids would love that!

- How long does the boat launch take to get to the MK? I love boats, but my kids got really impatient with the POR boat to Downtown Disney, and didn't want to ride it again!

Thanks - I'm sure I'll think of more questions later. I can't tell you how excited I am - I just don't seem to be getting over it! When I feel like this I know I made the right decision to stay here!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!!

Here's the info on the AAA Discount: (taken from mousesavers.com):

"AAA and CAA Resort Hotel Discounts
American Automobile Association (AAA) and Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) members qualify for "room only" discounts almost year-round, though there are a limited number of rooms available for each date. You can generally save about 10-20% at the Disney resort hotels, depending on the season.

In general, the discounts run as follows:

During Value Season you can get up to 15% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 20% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.

During Regular Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.

During Peak Season and Summer Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts.

The only time AAA/CAA discounts don't usually apply is Holiday Season (around Christmas) at the Value and Moderate resorts.

You don't have to book AAA/CAA rates through the Auto Club. Room-only reservations with an AAA discount can be booked directly through the Disney Reservation Center at (407) W-DISNEY or a travel agent who specializes in Disney travel. Just ask if there is an AAA or CAA discount for your dates and resort.

AAA/CAA rates for all of the following year are usually released in the summer. 2008 AAA/CAA "room only" discounts were released on August 5, 2007."

So, for example, if you booked a Garden View room at the Poly during summer (VAlue season) here's the breakdown:
Room per night: $340 -15%= $289 per night (savings of $51 per night)
x 10 nights = savings of $510, simply by booking through AAA.

Should a PIN code appear with your name on it, your AAA agent can change the reservation; mine was able to.

Thank you all for the info. We will be staying in early May of next year (366 days until our wedding... 1 year from tomorrow!!!). :cool1: So, we will get 10% off our room. Looks like we will save around $400 at the Poly. Still not sure if we can do it since we want to buy a home before we get married, but with my Fiance passing his paramedic test and upgrading to paramedic soon with a higher pay, we just might be able to do it all! :thumbsup2

Is there any discount with the package, or just the room portion? I was always confused by this.

So, again thanks for the info!

You can get a discount on the package or room only, it's honestly up to you. If you get the package you not only get the discount but also other special perks like a special meet-n-greet and a round of mini-golf at Fantasia or the other one. Package deals can only be booked with the AAA discount through an AAA agent, where room only discounts can be booked through Disney. You might want to book room only if you have or plan to buy the AP.

Read most of the pages and didn't see the answers to these:

1) I know you have to pay for internet per day - but what is the cost if you use it in the business center?

2) Anyone have an updated cost for drycleaning / laundry service?

3) How long does it take them to return the laundry service?

Thanks!!

I think we are going with the package, possibly with the dining plan. I like all the stuff that is included in the basic package, and DFi can eat a lot. Me, not so much.

Does anyone know what the package discount is compared to how much a similar package would cost through Disney. I know I could call my TA and ask, but everyone on here is so helpful!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks again for all the info!

The AAA discount is 10% (or whatever percent applies to your time of year) off the accomodations, whether or not those accomodations are part of a package. So if they'll save $400 off the Room Only, it will be the same $400 off the package.

Just one tiny word of warning: we've been talking about THIS year's prices. Last year the prices went up in August. Also, the dining plan changed at about the same time. Whether or not they'll increase prices, or by how much, remains to be seen, especially given the slump in the economy. But I did want you to be prepared.

As to the poster who asked about internet and drycleaning: sorry, I have no idea. But someone soon will, I'm sure!

Kira G. your kids won't get bored on the launch to the MK. It is probably a 5-6 minute ride once it leaves the Polynesian....and it's direct.

Like Tess, we've been staying at the Polynesian for many years and I had never caught the Torch Lighting Ceremony....that is until this past October. We happened to be just arriving at the time. It's very nice and lasts maybe 5 minute max. I think it was at 6pm but it will be listed when you check in. Sorry I don't know about other options at 'Ohana.

audry2580 There is no business center at the Polynesian although you can hop the monorail to the GF or CR. I don't know current prices for that or laundry. But it is same day service if you arrange for pickup by I think 8am. As I recall, things will be returned by 6pm. I've used it several times for dry cleaning and have been quite pleased.

Happy planning everyone!

Are ADR's necessary for the character b-fast???? Mid november trip

I would make a reservation, Marc. We have breakfast at Kona many times/year and the area around 'Ohana is always bustling even in "slow" times.

donaldsgirl said they were able to walk up before 8am and get right in but if it's important to you, I would make the reservation.

BTW, donaldsgirls, I'm glad you had such a great trip and amazing upgrade! I think there is a warning in the ME package about bags taking a while but it would be esy to miss something like that.

Yes there are alternativesfor kids. Over the years, my kids have gotten burgers, hot dogs, chicken and mac and cheese at Ohana

1st Question: I have been trying to get a dinner reservation at Ohanas for June 14th with no luck. Do you think if we went down there when it opens we will be able to get in?

2nd Question: We are staying at the Poly, I want to do something for my husband for Fathers day. I would like to have something left in our room for a surprise. Is cake my only option , or has someone did some other kid of dessert?? Thanks in advance!!

Thanks! I was really hoping that was true!

My son took one look at pictures of the food at Ohana and said "I'm not eating that stuff!"

Showing up early may work, also, try asking the CM when you check in.

Try the Disney Florist www.disneyflorist.com or Memories by Betsy WWW.memoriesbybetsy.com. They both can do more than just a cake.

We booked a package through AAA and saved 15% (value season). Then, AAA got us the cheapest airfare that we had seen in several months, and believe me, we had been searching. Anyway, that combo saved me almost $1000.
