The slide is all in the dark, it is a "tube" type slide. The openings are the only parts of the slide with light. That said, it is not totally dark as in pitch black. There is light that allows you to see where you are going through the tube.

There is no height requirement, but the water at the bottom does move and you are turned around a bit at the bottom. I have seen parents attempting to catch their smaller children at the exit. I don't recommend it however because I have personally shot into a parent who thought it was her child coming down. I think she was as surprised as I was when I came shooting out the exit and there was a grown woman standing there. :lmao:

Thanks so much for the slide info. My older DD is only 3 1/2 and I can't see her going down a dark slide. That is too funny about you "shooting" right into a parent on your way out! :lmao: I can just picture it!

I can just picture that, Tess!:rotfl:

How are you feeling, Tess?:flower3:

Much better BCV, thanks for asking!

As to being "caught" by the parent, it was hilarious in hindsight, but I was so surprised at the time and worried that I would hurt her when my feet connected with her head, shoulders, and chest! Ouch! Of course, she was very apologetic. I still felt horrible even though I certainly had no control over the situation--not like you can stop at the end of that slide! :rotfl:

So glad to hear that, Tess!:thumbsup2 :dance3: :woohoo: :cheer2:

Hope everyone down there now or about to leave has a fantastic time at the Polynesian!:goodvibes

Hey fellow Long Islanders! We're in Hauppauge!

Just booked a getaway to the Poly next month.... we just got back in June (our first Disney vacation) and we couldn't get enough. We booked again for January but needed a fix before then! :)

Hello from Holtsville :goodvibes
Glad to see you here :cutie:

It sounds like there are a handful of us coming during the same time period - late August... we will be there the 17th-23rd!

We sould all wear a red rose on our shirt so we can recognize eachother :lmao:

DIS'ers wear a LGMH (Lime Green Mickey Head) somewhere on their body, stroller, etc. to identify you as a member of the DIS boards.
If you go to Home Depot and look in the Disney paint section, you'll see paint chips with Mickey Heads. The neon/lime green is the one DIS'ers use. You write your DIS Handle on the LGMH to let other's know who you are.
You can also print out large ones to put on your stroller. I know I have the link to the large LGMH on here somewhere. I'll find it for you if you would like.

On our last visit to the parks, I wore my LGMH on my fanny pack and I met a bunch of DIS'ers. People just come up to you to say hello. No one interrupted my day, or followed me around the parks or anything stalker type like that. When I saw a LGMH I would go over and say, Hey, are you a DIS'er! and of course they said yes or they wouldn't have the LGMH:laughing: and we would introduce ourselves, how's your trip going, where you from, your kids are cute, have a great time, goodbye..... It's just nice to meet the people you interact with all the time :goodvibes
In fact, some DIS'ers Decorate their resort room door and windows to show everyone they're a DIS'er. It's just innocent fun.

On that same trip, my SIL/BIL's BF, who works at Disney, mocked me and my fellow DIS"ers. He could not believe how much power the DIS has! Well, after running into a few DIS'ers and speaking with CM's who also know all about the DIS, he changed his tune and admitted to me that he owes his job to DIS'ers! Believe it or not, We have strength in numbers

Just wanted to add some to the discussion about this. :goodvibes

There is a red/green light at the top of the slide that you are supposed to proceed down the slide when it turns green. Supposedly this is to 'space' people out down the slide. There's a portion in the slide that you do gown that turns 'red' to simulate the lava 'in' the volcano. Very cool!

I agree with Tess about not waiting at the bottom to 'catch' small kids. You come shooting out quite fast! :lmao: Besides, there is a lifeguard right there to keep watch and keep the landing area 'clear' so if you're worried about your little ones coming down the slide, don't sweat it. The lifeguard there is constantly on 'watch' where folks come out at the end of the slide.

One more perk about the volcano slide...at the very top while you're waiting, you get a great view of Cinderella's castle. :cloud9:

I literally got a chill of delight when I read this quote!!! THANK YOU!!! I can hardly wait!

Hi All,
We're leaving in 1 month, I'm so excited, I've already started packing! One question, do they have pool towels, should we bring our own? Do you just use your room bath towel?
Thanks!

Yes they have towels in a huge bin at the volcano pool for you to use.

Yeah, Disney's got it all pretty well figured out. That's why I love Disney vacations. I don't often say, "I wish they had...". I know some people say Disney knows how to part you and your money, but I think that is pretty true about many vacation destinations (My opinion--no flames please). :hippie:

I just want to say how much I appreciate this thread! I feel very "at home" here!

I just spent 20 minutes looking at the crowd calculator at touringplans.com, seeing what November looks like...yes, I think I might be a little nuts...we're still five months from our first WDW vacation and I'm already trying to plan the next one!

*facepalm*

First trip!!! Ah, that's great. What a wonderful resort to pick for your very first WDW trip!:thumbsup2

Have a great time. :thumbsup2

I should have said it's our first STAY at WDW! First time staying at a resort, first time getting table service meals, using Disney transportation, park-hopping, etc.

We lived in Orlando from 1996 - 2003, so we did a couple of daytrips then. I also vividly remember my very first time -- I was 7! It was May 1972! I wanted to stay at the Polynesian even then! My folks stayed there for their 50th wedding anniversary, and now we'll be there for our 20th!

At the quiet pool, as well. That was DNiece's favorite part of the trip. The quiet pool. :rotfl: We had an 8:00 CRT breakfast (empty park), as well as CM and CP meals and went to the P&PP, but that was her favorite part!

You're very welcome! I remember getting chills last August when I first walked up the steps to the Volcano pool, looked out at the top and saw the castle. The Terror Squad (my DD8, DN9, DN13 and DGsis14) all are in agreement that one of the best things about the volcano pool was the 'view at the top'.

I know some people say Disney knows how to part you and your money, but I think that is pretty true about many vacation destinations (My opinion--no flames please). :hippie:

I have a saying that my family knows I repeat over and over. "Disney is there to separate you from your money. The faster you realize that and make peace with it, the more relaxing of a vacation you'll have." :lmao:

That is so sweet - about your parents' 50th anniversary and now your & DH's 20th! :goodvibes

Don't let touringplans.com high crowd #'s discourage you in the least! By the time your trip rolls around, you'll be an expert in *how* to maneuver the parks most efficiently! :thumbsup2 I ALWAYS use touringplans to decide which park/which day and to schedule ADRs. :)

Oh, my! Look at my ticker - 3 days, I need to get packing! ;)

Oooooh, RachelTori! Get off the computer and go PACK something! ;)

I did my ADRs bass-ackwards. I made them and THEN came onto the boards here and started plowing through all the threads. If I'd known then what I know now, I might have opted for Whispering Canyon Cafe instead of Coral Reef on New Year's Day, and not tried to get into any park at dinner time. We lucked out with our first two dinner ADRs -- one at 1900 Park Fare and one at 'Ohana -- and we have the Princess breakfast at EPCOT on our last morning. I'm lucky I didn't plan a MK TS meal for Dec. 30 or 31, since we do NOT plan to be in the park all day and probably would have been shut out!

(Hence my desire to plan my next trip at a time when it's extremely unlikely that a park might reach capacity)

Crowds or no, I'm still glad we will actually be there ON our anniversary...New Year's Eve!

I am going to have to repeat this one to my DH I think - This is so very true!
