The *NEW* Polynesian Resort FAQ thread - *2008*

I have a question for all you polynesian experts out there....After much thought and consideration we have decided on staying at the poly...Yeah...:cool1: . So with reading about the different long houses some speak of this "hike" that you have to do to get from certain long houses to the main house or the TTC. What exactly is considered a hike? How long of a walk is this?

10 minutes TOPS from one side of the resort to the other. We stayed in Fiji, opposite end of the resort from the TTC and it never took us more than 10 minutes to walk there, if that. That's one of the things I love about the Poly, it doesn't seem spread out too much (compared to some other resorts on site).

I remember my countdown -- soooo sweet!!:cloud9:

Have a fabulous time, and fill us in when you return. That is unless you are going to do a LIVE trip report, LOL.:hyper:

I used to love doing live reports...but somehow with 4 kids now I can't find the time and i'm too tired :)
Too much to bring now so I leave the laptop home

Thanks so much...by saying its a 10 min. walk does not sound so bad as saying its a hike.....cant wait to go.:cloud9:

Great idea, MsSB.:thumbsup2

Have fun with your DD's kitty this weekend!:goodvibes

Thanks! We sure plan to. I can't tell who is more excited, she or I! :lmao:

No reason to post but just getting excited that we are at our 5 week countdown!!

That sounds like a danged good reason to post to me! :goodvibes Isn't the anticipation wonderful?

 I know that giddy feeling so very well!
popcorn:: I know that this is off the topic. But I'm wondering if anyone knows if they still have those smoked turkey legs at MK and I think HS.
I always found them to be a great afternoon snack. And when i clsoe my eyes and imagine walking through frontierland, I can still smell them. YUMMY!

Oh yes, they still do sell those! I've spent many times as a kid and a grownup eating one of those while watching a parade in FrontierLand. I swear that is a whole meal. Pair that sucker up with a funnel cake from Sleepy Hollow in Liberty Square...mmmmm :cloud9:

Yeah, I tend to define the MK by places to shop and places to eat. :lmao:

This is such a great thread. We are going to be staying at the Poly in Sept. for the first time (and haven't been to to Disney in many years) You guys are better than any guide book I've read! I'll be checking in often between now and Sept.21.

we only have 1 more month before we are back at the Polynesian!! I am sooo excited I cant hardly stand it!! Me and my DD(6) went last year...this year it will be me, DD(6), DS(2) and my DSis(18)... my Dsis and DS have never been to WDW before and I cant wait to see their faces!! .... Wishing I was there now... :cloud9:

::yes:: <--green with envy!! I'm trying to work out dates for a trip or two this fall. After going to the P&PP, I want to take the kiddies to MNSSHP or MVMCP. Also working on a grown-ups only trip. Until I finalize something, I'm just living vicariously through this thread. :surfweb:

First time on a chat board ever... sorry if I do this wrong! My family of 4 will be arriving to Orlando around 8am on Halloween day(a red eye from Oregon).

My questions is : After that long of a flight I know we will be tired. What do you think the odds are that at that time of year we will be able to get in our room that early? (We are staying at the Poly GV room)

Thank you so much for all of these reports, we are WAY excited!:yay:

OOOhhh!!! I didn't know about the funnel cakes!!!:cool1: I've been dreaming about the Dole Whip - now Dole Whip and Funnel Cake?! YUMMY!! :yay: I better start cutting back or investing in some expandable waist shorts!:rotfl2:

Since we have been using Magical Express (last three trips), our rooms have been ready at early check-in. I think ME helps WDW anticipate arrivals: in April our group had four rooms in a row at CBR and they were ready when we checked in around 1:00 PM.

Good luck, and welcome! :)

WELCOME!!! you will LOVE the Poly!!!

They can't guarantee the rooms early, but you may be lucky. If you aren't too picky about where you room is, they may be able to put you in as soon as something is available. Call and have them list on your reservation that you will be arriving off a red eye so they know that for the room assigners. do it ASAP so it's on the record. They can't guarantee it, but it helps.

But... be prepared to wait. I did when I changed rooms. They will store your luggage and you can roam around the parks or the resorts - get something to eat, etc.

Good luck!!!

Also remember that Halloween will be popular at the resort because of Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party....

We will be arriving at the Poly next Thur around 11am-12pm. :yay: We are SO excited but didn't think rooms could possible be ready until 3pm. I am excited to know that there may be a possiblity of them being ready by 1pm:cool1: I plan to bring the bathing suits in the carryons so we will sit poolside and have some lunch then maybe we'll get lucky and get into our rooms after that:)

I just spoke to AAA and Paid for our trip!!!!!!

Polynesian, here we come!!!!! (OK, in a month and a half! But still, it's paid for!!!)

We will be there December 10-17. We've been to WDW during the holiday season, but that was before I was introduced to the DIS.

Would love to hear about MVMCP and the overall Polynesian holiday experience! :santa:

Okay I am planning an Oct. Trip for 9 ladies and I think I have decided on 2 connecting rooms with a Balcony and MK view. Now my dilema is what building is closest to the Monorail?

Also how much more are the concierge level rooms? Are there connecting rooms as well in this section.

THX

:moped:
I'm not sure what the difference in price is for club level rooms...but it is considerable. If my memory serves me well, the club level rooms cost additional $$ per person per day. I'd quote you the price I've paid, but that was back in 2002 and I'm sure it has changed a lot since then.
I can tell you for sure that Club level does have some connecting rooms.
I have been spoiled at the club level rooms on more than one occasion and can't imagine staying at the Polynesian in any other bldg. with the exception of Tonga which is the suites bldg and also club level.
:rolleyes1 Silly me! To be totally honest, I'd stay in a basement at Poly if it was all I could get rather than stay anywhere else. And yes, I have stayed at other Disney resorts and truly enjoyed my stays at those. But once a Poly guest, there is no other place quite like it.
Here's an interesting side note. Before Shades of Green was designated for Military guests, it was called the Disney Inn (approx 1984) and I had a nice stay there also.

PS. The Hawaiian Bldg (club level bldg) is one of the furthest from the monorail.

I"m missing the Poly soooo much today. Our next trip planned is for Sept a split stay between POR-many times & GF-first time. Feel like I need to try it out, but hope I'm not looking across the lagoon wishing I was at the Poly. We do have a bfast & dinner scheduled there. It's nice to try new things & the Poly isn't going anywhere, right???:confused3

Just changed our split stay between POR & GF to the POLY for the whole trip. Couldn't get a AAA discount or anything but I don't care! It's calling to me & that's where I need to be!! Would have kept POR but it's a short trip so the POLY it is!!! Hopefully there will be a AAA or other code before Sept. I'll keep my fingers crossed. There is just something about the POLY.....:cloud9:

My DH and I will be staying at the Poly for the first time Dec. 9-14. We are also doing our first split stay--AKL Dec. 14-19.

We have visited the Poly during the holiday season and are really looking forward to staying there. My DD and I went to the MVMCP a few years ago. We really enjoyed it, but wouldn't do it again.
