I love the Tudors. However, I do think they have taken some interesting historical liberties. I've done a lot of research on the Tudors since I discovered that Mary Tudor (Henry's sister) is my 13 great grandmother. She was actually married to Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk. Their daughter, Eleanor Brandon was married to Henry Clifford. Their daughter, Margaret Clifford married Henry Stanley. I am related through the Stanley family on my mother's side.

In the show, they had Charles Brandon married to Margaret Tudor. Margaret was the sister who was sent to marry the old king and died shortly after returning and her marriage to Charles. In reality, Margaret Tudor married King James IV of Scotland. It was Mary Tudor who was briefly married to King Louis XII of France. She was 18 and he was 52. She was Henry's favorite sister. She agreed to marry the French king on the condition that, after the old king's death, she could marry for love. She was in love with Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk. They had three children before her death in 1533. It is thought that she died of cancer. Shortly after her death, Charles Brandon married their 14 year old ward, Catherine Willoughby. They had two sons.

I'm not sure why they felt the need to rewrite history, but it is still a great show.

If you go online and read about The Tudors and discussions with the writers, they are very honest about straying pretty far from the facts. They said that they did not set out to create a documentary, but to create a compelling, soap opera type show. As for Margaret, they say that they have "merged" Mary and Margaret Tudor into one character so for the sake of cramming everything into a show and know that there are a lot of inaccuracies.

I have to disagree with this. I have read quite a bit with Tudor history and I have never heard of him having a venereal disease. And when compared to other kings/nobles, he had a very small number of lovers/affairs.

He did have an ulcer on this leg that never fully healed and would reopen and seep and smell!! It was thought that a jousting accident that happened towards the end of his marriage to Anne Boleyn caused it. Some think he also received an undiagnosed head injury that perhaps gave him brain damage and caused his mood swings and other behavior issues. That is also why he gained weight since his leg bothered him so much he couldn't really exercise.

That is why his last wife was so compatible to him. She was more of a nursemaid than a wife.

I do love this series though. Even if I have to stop myself from cringing at all the changes they have made to the real history.

Is this the end of the series, will they continue on with his children? Their history is just as fascinating as Henry's.

Instead, they're going forward with a new period-drama series, The Borgias, beginning this fall. It will be presented on Showtime, like The Tudors, and is written by Michael Hirst, like The Tudors.

Michael Hirst is also working on another period-drama idea, entitled Camelot.

I just wrapped up Season 3 on Showtime and I'm ready for Season 4!

I've got to say the casting choices for Anne of Cleves and Catherine Howard surprised me. Henry was supposed to be repulsed by Anne, but it was hard for me to believe he would be repulsed by Joss Stone's Anne, whom I found more attractive than Tamzin Merchant's Catherine.

Just about 3 weeks until the season premier!!!

I like to wait till the season is over and then sit down for a weekend and watch the entire season in two days! Let's face it Henry is getting older but let's hope they age him hotly and not make him look like a jowly old man. Idon't care if it is true to history.

The cause of his leg sores is controversial. It could have been the jousting accident that caused one of them, however, he had them covering both of his legs. He was believed to have suffered from syphilis. It's also possible that he was diabetic. The fact that he was not as lecherous as some doesn't matter as it only takes having relations with one person who is infected.

To make matter even foggier, Henry who, of course, caused the split from the Catholic church in England, died believing himself to be a good Catholic. He would refer to himself still as the Defender of the Faith. He asked for a priest to hear his confession on his deathbed.

He was a man of many contradictions.

From what I've read, the series will end this season. It would be great if they continued with his children.
