The NEW Official November 2010 Countdown & Planning Thread ~ Come join us! (Part 2)

I started a thread this morning asking for pics of launches at the Parks/Resorts, the pic posted from MK was great. I was also told you can see from the Boardwalk and Beach Club. DH is making me keep it a secret until we get to the parks for the kids in our group. I do not know that I can:eek:

I have seen pics of the shuttle from the poly beach on here. In fact Sunday I was checking to see if they might have changed the launch date, then told DH if they should change it to when we are there I am heading over to the Poly he can come or stay behind :rotfl2:

When I looked Sunday it said that test rocket is due to be launched 11/8 between 9am and noon----I remember because our plane is due to land at 9:14am on Nov 8 and I thought uh oh hope they aim it away from our plane :rotfl:

I am obviously very late to this, but we are going Thanksgiving week. We will be there 11/21-11/27. It is the first trip for my children and my first trip in 30 years. I was my dd's age when I went.

She has no idea. I was planning to do a short trip around her fall break (school closes for an annual teacher's conference) and low and behold, they combined it with Thanksgiving week. I almost can't believe it. My dd is 7 and has been asking to go since she was 4 years old. I originally said we'd go when her brother could walk so she thinks we are waiting until he is 2.

For some reason every time I say wait until ds gets bigger, she thinks that means wait until he's 2. She's going to have that boy doing everything at 2. Anyway, turns of events in our lives basically made me say "What the heck am I waiting for?" And that fall break ending up being a full week was just confirmation that 2010 is our year to take on the World.

I'm so excited. 45 day mark is Thursday for us. I paid off our package today.

I have said it before but you are an inspiration, your children are so blessed to have such a strong mother. I don't think I'd have it in me if I was in your shoes. I hope you have an amazing trip, I know you will.

LOL

Or imagine if you were still on the plane when it launched and you looked out the window and seen it flying by. LOL

I told DH about it and how I wasn't thrilled with it being launched perhaps when we were coming in to land and he was "They have been launching these things for years and haven't hit a plane yet"

Hello to all, I have a lot of reading to to catch up, 24 days to go:banana: I just wanted to let those who are going first week of Nov that there will be TWO launches from Kennedy Space Center. The first one is on November 1 at 4:40 pm , Space Shuttle Discovery. The second one is a rocket launch on Nov 4 time undetermined.

I didn't know about the second launch, but I did find out about the first launch after I booked a room on the beach just north of Daytona for the 1st. So I am very excited to hopefully get to see a launch. We are doing our drive down over two nights, first night I hope to stop in the Florence (NC or SC, can't remember) area and then stop the next night at Ormond Beach leaving our drive on Tuesday morning to POFQ at about 90 minutes. I asked at the hotel in Ormond Beach if they see the shuttle launches and she said, "Bring your video camera, it is one of the most amazing things you will ever see." I am excited about this little extra for our vacation.

46 days til our car rolls out of town to head to Disney :) Im so ready:cool1:

For QOTD..i originally booked package through Disney w/ no discounts or anything then the room discounts and gc offers came out so when i called the CM tried both the room discount and the gc and she said we would do better with the $300 Disney gc so that what we ended up with. :)

QOTD. Did you book with a pin, free dining, public room discount or other?

I booked with the room-only discount for POFQ. (The site said it was 30% but when I figured it out, it actually came to 35%. I don't know if I'm that bad at math now days or whether the Disney site was wrong, but I'm not complaining.) We had actually gotten a 40% pin back in the summer (got it nine times to be exact, kind of nuts!) but couldn't use it because we had my mil here for hospice care. She passed Aug. 19 and wanted us to go to Disney after she died. So that afternoon I made the room-only reservation. Bought our park tickets from Undercover Tourist before the prices went up and with the mousesavers discount. We will be paying for meals oop simply because I can't take all those desserts they give you on the ddp, I'd rather have appetizers. I called today and had the rest of the room charge put on my credit card so that will be paid off before we leave. And I still have some cash left to put toward the meals. (I had started saving last year for an Epcot-resort Club Level trip in 2012, but we are going now instead.)

Did you book with a pin, free dining, public room discount or other?

We got a postcard with pin#s in April so we booked with 40% off in May. Subsequently I also received the other offers for FD and gift card, but as we are staying at the Poly, nothing could beat the 40% off. Yay!

I can't wait to get my package either - our vacation is 38 days away, so hopefully I should hear from my TA any day!!!

I'm worried I made a mistake in planning our park days. I planned for us to visit DHS on 11/14 because I really wanted to see Fantasmic! After reading a few posts about how crazy DHS is on Fantasmic! nights I'm worried it will be too busy for us to enjoy. I could switch this day to AK (I had AK scheduled for 11/16) but I would lose my Tusker House breakfast ADR and the kids really enjoy eating there (and I love getting to the parks early). So, what do you think...keep the schedule as is, brave the crowds, or switch and catch F! next year? TIA

Well..this is the week we are going too!! This is a slooow week, so even with F! it shouldn't be toooo crazy. Just try to get FP for the headliners first thing in the morning, then just do whatever you can in between. I reeeeaaally think the park is doable on a F! day this time of year...I wouldn't change all that around just because of it. I think you'll be fine. The parks are projected a 1-3 all week, and I have been when it was crowded and we did everything over there we wanted..it's all in your planning!!:thumbsup2
QOTD ~ we weren't going to WDW this year (husband & I were in Maui for a week in May for our 15th anniversary) but we've always wanted to go this time of year. When the free dining dates got extended into November I mentioned it to him his reply 'it's probably still more expensive that time of year' so I checked ;) LOL the week we're going was the same price as the week we normally go in September so I 'persuaded' him to book for THIS YEAR! :-)

I'm sitting here trying to plot out which park which days & have a question for some of you.

On 11/29, 11/30, 12/1, and 12/2 the crowd leves are 1-3. Does it really matter which park we choose with thoe numbers? I mean there are park recommendations and all but if it's that low is it really going to bad at any park in your past experience?

I haven't been during Tday, but I have been the first of Dec...the crowd will fluctuate in Dec if it's Pop Warner week...not that you won't be able to do stuff...just more groups of kids in the mix. If the Crowd level is predicted 1-3 that week, then don't sweat it...just get your FPs for must-dos and work around it!!

welcome aboard!! I think I responded to you a while back when you first started planning--didn't you ask ideas about surprising your kids? Glad you decided to bring them and not tell!!!:yay: I am a surprise freak!!!! Hooray for paying off the trip also!!! doesnt that feel great!!!

QOTD - We got the 40% PIN code too, wouldn't have done Poly without it!

I just discovered etsy today, thanks again to Disboards. I ordered really cute matching minnie mouse dresses for my girls for our Chef Mickey dinner. Not cheap! I am now very motived to learn to sew by our next Disney vacation so I can make these myself. Wish I could extend the 40% off PIN to all the extras I've bought for this trip!

I forgot to mention what DH got me this weekend. I am not a fan of stickers on cars. Atleast the kind that actually stick and when you try to take them off they either leave sticky stuff or tear off your paint. HOWEVER, I really liked the Disney family stickers. But I couldn't convince myself that it was okay to put them on my car. But for the last two years, when I go to WDW, I will stand there and stare at them in the Test Track store. I debate and debate. Well, with our upcoming trip, DH decided that he wanted to avoid me doing that again (and keep me from sticking stickers to the new Swagger Wagon) so he had this made for me!

And the close up.....

Isn't it cute! The last little girl looks a bit weird. He tried to make it a Mickey Hat with a crown in it... DH was confused. He thought it was both on the stickers. He didn't realize it was either the Mickey Hat or Princess Crown. Oh well, I still like it! I thought it was pretty nice of him.

Those are not suppose to be so big! I resized them!?!?!?

Oh, and ignore the rain and mud on it. Its been raining since Sunday and we live in Coal Country!

QOTD. Did you book with a pin, free dining, public room discount or other?

We booked free dining. Kids 'count' as adults, and DS is a big eater, so we figure it's a big savings for us! We put the savings towards a resort upgrade... never stayed Deluxe before!

QOTD: We booked using a pin, and like PP's that is why we are staying at a Deluxe. We will probably use the military tix next trip (March) and stay at a moderate again. We are really found of POR. We like the DxDP, so we would have to upgrade if got free dining anyway...

41 days until arrival!!

48 pages, are you kidding me?!??!?!?!?! :surfweb: I'm SO outta the loop! :rotfl2: Life is crazy-busy right now, so I don't suppose I'll be on here a whole lot before our trip. BUT I did empty out my PM box a bit, so I can accept Turkey head orders again :rotfl:

Also---has anyone seen any good flight deals around 11/18? DH JUST said tonight, "Wonder if we should just fly since it's so hectic to drive & might not cost tooooo much more." Hmmmmmm.....as if I'm not getting stressed out enough about the upcoming trip?!?!?! :rolleyes1

QOTD: We booked back in February at rack rate. Whenever the discounts finally came out, I compared the room discount and the gift card, and came out slightly ahead with the room discount.

We're going earlier in November, but our crowd levels are pretty much the same. From everyone I've talked to, they said not to worry too much about levels that low. We're mostly going where the EMH's are each day (in case DD needs a mid-day nap) so pretty much none of our days are recommended parks.

I love the idea of putting them on a plate! I already have a sticker on my back window so I didnt want to add anything else. What a great hubby.:lovestruc

Rain, rain go away.... I just asked DH what the weather is tomorrow. More rain.:sad1: I dont like Disney shopping in the rain. Reminds me to buy ponchos though.:rotfl2:
