The New *Official 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon Thread*

Just signed up with my dd after she did a little arm twisting. (Very little. It's Disney). I haven't run before but have been encouraged by all I've read that my hard training will pay off. Btw. I'm 57 but decided it's never too late to join in the fun. Looking forward to a great weekend with everyone!!

Was there a promo code for registration? I heard there was a 10% or $10 discount:confused3

I went to the running store on my lunch break - just to try on a few pairs - and came back with a pair of Nike Lunarglide +4. Anyone here run in them? They seem to control my foot well - no rolling in or out, tons of heel stability, room for my toes - but the sole feels so inflexible. I'm just sitting at my desk in them for now, though. I'll give 'em a little walk on the treadmill when I get home.

I have a pair of Lunarglides that I bought over a year ago, maybe two...really because I liked the colors and thought they would be comfortable to have on weekends and stuff...I'm sure I've mentioned my shoe addiction before :) Anyway, I thought they were so comfy that I did do a few short runs in them out of curiosity. They didn't feel bad, but at the time didn't feel as good as my Asics, so I never tried to make a switch...it is a comfy shoe though...hope they work out for you. I'm hopeful that I may be able to stick with my Asics Cumulus now...if I'm gonna start running with inserts for the PF, I'm wondering if that will alleviate some of the little changes they made in the new Cumulus that I didn't like...planning to just try on a few pair this weekend too! ;)

I know in past years there has been, but don't remember hearing about one available to the public for this one...I could be wrong though. Are you by chance a CM? There is one available for CM's...very small, but it's something. I also have heard that if you sign up at the runDisney booth at an expo you save a little $$ by not having to pay the Active registration fees.

I got a discount with DVC membership - I want to say it was $10.

:rotfl2: Good luck! You know I know all about that particular addiction. ;) That's good to hear,, though, about the Lunarglides - I'm enjoying them so much in my office, I'm tempted to keep them no matter what for walking around WDW. Maybe I could make them walk WDW/short run shoes and reserve my Mizuno Inspires for long runs...

Princess V, loved reading your blog on the ToT...I think you did great considering the physical limitations and WEATHER! I know Cripey is from Houston area and thought the humidity was terrible also. Lately in San Antonio it has been really bad humidity which my running coach says should prepare me for Orlando ( I love his faith and enthusiasm!) Your blog brings up a good point for all of us....train, train, train and bring your time down so if there is weather, physical limitations etc. during the race you should have a good cushion to finish in the alloted time. BTW...you have some fantastic arms..what's the secret for the rest of us gals

They're like puppies, right? You don't "just go look"!

Anyway, I'm just transitioning now from Lunarglides to Newton Gravitys. I've been running in Lunarglide2 and Lunarglide3 over the last couple of years, with a stint with Mizuno Wave Inspires in between. I went back from Mizunos to the Lunarglide because I liked them so much and missed them.

BUT, I always maintain that something that works for one person doesn't necessarily work for others...but if you got fit for them then you have a good chance of loving them!

Finally had my podiatrist appointment today for what I have been 99.9% sure was the dreaded PF...confrimed. (I got to take home the ultrasound pic too...I keep telling everyone "look! my foot is pregnant!) Just in time too, because I've started to feel those familiar pains in my left foot so I hope to nip that one before it gets as bad as the right. Thankfully, there are no signs of rupture or tears, just alot of inflammation (almost double the size it is in my left foot!) and a reeeeeeally tight calf. Fortunately, he doesn't feel like I need to scale back any of my activity at this point. We'll start out with stretches evey day, without fail, anti-inflammatories, no walking on bare feet EVER and some supportive inserts in my athletic shoes.

Sorry to hear about the PF. I got it back in January from Zumba. What really helped me was expensive flip flops for around the house (rainbows or olukai) and Naot flats for work. When it flares up I use a plastic bottle of frozen water and roll my foot on it. Hope you get relief soon, sounds like you have a great doctor!

Just thought I would join in. I am amazed at how long this thread has been going already. I wasn't even sure until the expo at the ToT that I would be doing the PHM. (and if airfare doesn't come down I still might not:rolleyes:) :worship: for all of you who have been committed to doing this for so long!

I did the ToT with a friend here on dis. I think we ended up with different goals though and I am afraid that she is going to not run the PHM with me (even though we are both signed up)

Do any of you run it alone.. but not alone? Like you go to the corrals together but meet at the end? This is what I suggested that we do. Maybe I should be a better friend and stay with her again?

Another question... I submitted another time to trackshack (or whatever the email is that is listed on the registration) Should I receive some sort of confirmation? My time from my last 10k (which is what I submitted at the time of registrations) is about 2 min/mile slower than my most recent one. I do have one more 10k that I plan to do, so maybe I shouldn't worry about it...other than that one will be in december so for that one I will have to bring proof to have my corral placement changed.

When we go to Disney (headed there this Sunday, yeah!) I wear my birkenstocks and have no blister issues, wish Birki's came in running shoes!

Birkenstock sells insoles for regular shoes! I used to use them in my sneakers, but ended up going with other brands as the shoes and foot issues changed.

I don't know if I will ever catch up on this thread! I will be joining you at the Princess. I did the TOT and haven't tried running again due to some tender knees. I need to get back to see the dr, because my custom $$$ insoles seem to be making my feet hurt. I don't know if it's them or my running. I do plan on doing a workout while I am back at Disney next week. I figure that will get me motivated again to start running!:thumbsup2

Just back from a Disney vacation. It was so hot and humid! My feet are covered in heat rash. :( I could use some blister advice though. I've never found any kind of shoes in all of my adult life that doesn't cause blisters. I always get blisters on my heel, except really low, the best way to describe it is if there was a seam that connected my heel to the base of my foot, that is where I get blisters. I've tried bodyglide and moleskin. The moleskin doesn't stay in place, and the bodyglide didn't help either. Any suggestions?

I love the dual layer socks for preventing blisters. I get horrible ones without those two layer socks. Painfully expensive but worth every penny.

I haven't heard back from trackshack (or whatever it was) either and I wish they would at least confirm that they got my email. Its a little disconcerting not knowing if the email is lost in the interwebs or if they actually got it.

This seems to be a hot button issue for some of my friends. My view for running is that I would rather go at my pace and not slow anyone down (or slow down for anyone) most of the time. I don't want to feel guilty for making someone else miss out on a personal best because they felt the need to "babysit" me and I would feel resentment if I missed mine for the same reason. There is a time for team and things like Tough Mudder (OMG it's this weekend!!!!!) you need your team and they are TEAM events. But I feel like running is a personal sport and unless you've done so many that you don't care about time or you are just aiming to finish and don't care about time, I feel every person should run the way they want and meet up at the finish line. DH and run a lot of races together and he's just plain faster than me. I'm not going to force him to slow down so I can keep up. I am proud of him every time he beats a goal and I wouldn't want to take that from him.

The only exception is my kids. My oldest son (7) is getting into running, and I am happy to slow my pace to encourage him to come along. That's a greater good than any ol' personal record.

Totally agree! Definitely run your own race unless it was pre-planned to run together for fun, etc. My BF is way faster than me too...we choose one race per year to run together for fun, at my pace, and stop for pics, not caring about time. All other races, he's happily cheering me on at the finish...you know, cuz he's already been finished for like an hour! Must be nice, right? :)

I agree too. My DD and will be running together but not at the same pace. I'm training hard so she won't have too long a wait and maybe I can see her heels sometimes and that is fine with both of us. I can't expect to pace with her. This is my first race but we will have lots of other Disney magic together.

Right? I just wish I knew it if was lost or not... It is nice to know that I am not the only one who has not received a response. Course... what if we are the only ones? :confused3

I think that is a good part of the issue we are having right now. I feel bad for pushing her but also I feel bad that I didn't allow myself to do my best. I cant say for sure if she feels bad for making me wait or angry with me for dragging her along. I do know she wants me to walk the PHM with her. At this point though, I am not sure we will even be in the same corral. It is bad of me, but I don't want to drop back to different corral if I have worked hard to get placed in the one I get into (my recent 10k was KILLER with 2 miles of hills)

:rotfl: It sounds like you have a good system. I just hope that my friend and I can get to a similar system

I started training for the ToT back in March/April. I was afraid that I would slow my friend down. I didn't want to let her down and make us get swept. I have gone out to run 3 times a week, barely missing a day since last spring. Turned out I trained "too much" Maybe you will be right up there with your dd by the time the the PHM is here. ;)

You all make me feel like not such a bad friend for suggesting that we meet up at the end, so thank you. :goodvibes Ultimately, I think I ruined the ToT for her. She was not prepared to run like I was. I pushed her and in the end, she was not able to stay for the Villians Bash since she was feeling so poorly (which also meant I didn't go). I realize this isn't a race to run in order to get your best time (after all..character stops.. mile markers...etc are bound to slow ones time) I just want to run it, but also don't want to be the mean person either leaving someone behind or dragging them along .

I submitted my time via email on August 23, and finally got a confirmation back on September 25 -- so give them a few weeks. And last week when I re-submitted a second, faster time from the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 10k, I got an auto-reply saying that due to the number of emails in relation to the Tower of Terror run, it may take a while to receive a response.

Thanks! That makes me feel even better!

As long as they catch the bus before it stops running. I forget around what time, but they do stop for a while as the race starts and then resume service later to start bussing everyone back from the finish area. They should come with you in the AM though when you leave! It's a fun atmosphere (DJ, photo ops, etc) and they can be there to share it with you...take pics, hold your stuff when you visit the port-o-potties, etc! Put it to them this way...you worked your behind of for MONTHS for this...they can lose a couple of hours sleep for you! For my first PHM (and first half ever!), I had 6 people with me...they wouldn't have dreamed of missing any of it...it was exciting for all of us!

I know my mom would like to come with me in the morning, but since I'm doing the race retreat, she'll have to wait outside in the cold while I'm inside. So we were talking about her taking a bus a little bit later, so she still would see me start the race.
At what time can premium cheer inter the race retreat tent???

I ran my first year solo since I average a little faster than my friend. It was my first half and I wanted to see how I did - even with pic stops; I wasn't completely focused on time. It was fun but kind of a letdown at the end. Last year we ran together, at her speed / intervals and were agreed that the goal was totally about fun and pictures. Had a blast. I think it all boils down to agreeing on the GOAL of the race. That being said, I think it's a very valid concern when you feel someone is not training at the level you are. My friend is a touch slower, but she trained every bit as consistently as I did and was ready for that distance. If I were going with someone who did not put in the training and THEN expected me to hang with them, that would upset me.

Cripey - I know how you feel. When I run with DH I ALWAYS feel like I am holding him back. On the other hand, I feel like he really throws me off - he doesn't do intervals and he goes out too fast for me. We're doing a 10K together on Tgvg which is going to be my Princess proof, so I am going to send him on his happy way so I can concentrate on doing my thing and getting the best time I can.
