I found my Princess outfit! I was totally anti-skirt after my experience at the TOT (it drove me NUTS! Kept twisting around, bunching under my Spibelt, and the sequins brushing against my hands were annoying), but Target had girls' lace and tulle skirts on clearance - a little poof, soft lace and a color to match a shirt I already have! Every once in a while it pays to be short and built like a 10-year-old boy, I guess.

Best part? The skirt was $6 using my Target Visa. So if it annoys me, I'll have NO problem tossing it on the side of the course! :teeth:

Cute! I started pinning the elastic waist of my sparkle skirts to my compression shorts...front, back and one on each side...prevents the twisting and bunching from the movement of my fuel belt.

Just back from a Disney vacation. It was so hot and humid! My feet are covered in heat rash. :( I could use some blister advice though. I've never found any kind of shoes in all of my adult life that doesn't cause blisters. I always get blisters on my heel, except really low, the best way to describe it is if there was a seam that connected my heel to the base of my foot, that is where I get blisters. I've tried bodyglide and moleskin. The moleskin doesn't stay in place, and the bodyglide didn't help either. Any suggestions?

Cute outfit :)
Thanks!

:thumbsup2 Thanks Cripey - I found myself wondering if that might help long about Mile 8 of the TOT... when I couldn't run anymore and had a lot of time to kill, lol! The Target skirt waist is pretty wide, which I think will help, but I'll try a test run with it pinned, too.

I have no personal experience to go by, but what about socks with extra cushion in the heel? The heat rash sounds uncomfortable - hop you feel better quickly!

Speaking for myself I have been running in my Reebok RealFlex Transitions since March and absolutely love them. What sold me was the extra comfort seaming inside the shoe on the heel. I've trained in just about every weather condition you can imagine and have never had one blister since I purchased them. As for socks I use No nonsense Zone Support No Show Socks. Wearing baby powder is another trick I use.

Hey! Wah sorry you're back. We were there 9/27-10/7 and it was insane humidity!! We did the ToT ten miler. This trip DH had a massive issue with blisters. His are on and under his toes though. If you're able to wear Teva Mush flip flops, try them. i literally swear by them. I HATE the feeling of flip flops. These are comfy wide fabric straps and great support. I have high arches, and the Mush really supports my arch and whole foot. You wanna dry out the blisters. Also wearing performance/wicking socks instead of cotton socks if you're gonna wear sneakers makes a huge difference. I hope you feel better soon!

ugh, dreaded blisters...I get monster blisters on the next-to-the-pinkie toe on both of my feet every single time I go to Disney. I've yet to find a pair of shoes that will keep them at bay...I think it's just the way my toes are shaped or something. Anyway, I was able to keep them at bay longer than normal on this trip...because of my PF, I wore my Asics running shoes with some insoles in them that I picked up at the ToT expo along with a pair of Nike dri-fit socks every day. I don't know what it was that helped them hold off an extra day or two, but something worked...they are still healing up now. Drives me nuts...hope you find a solution for yours...I haven't heard of them being a problem in that particular spot before, but I know they really put a damper on park touring!

Thanks everyone! I feel really good today. A little stiff when I first got out of bed but it went away once I got moving. I could even walk down the stairs like a normal person! After my last half in April I hobbled up and down like an 80 year old for about 2 weeks! I think the biggest difference has been the new orthotics I got this summer. NO SHIN PAIN!!!:banana::banana:

I love my orthotics. I am a nurse and work 12 hour shifts and my legs and feet killed me before I got my orthotics. Now I can work and go to the gym afterwrds and not hobble.

Just a quick question about transportation for the race. I am staying at a host hotel, but did not book through RunDisney. Am I still eligible to use the buses?

Thanks

Can my cheer team catch a later bus or do they have to be on the same bus as me???

I was just wondering the same thing. DH will probably see me near the castle then again at the end, he won't want to head out quite as early as I do.

I'm pretty certain non-runners can board without their runner. I don't know what time the busses run to though.
If your cheerers want to see you at MK they would need to take regular park transportation over their from the hotel. They can then take transportation to Epcot to meet at the finish line (no need to enter the park).

As long as they catch the bus before it stops running. I forget around what time, but they do stop for a while as the race starts and then resume service later to start bussing everyone back from the finish area. They should come with you in the AM though when you leave! It's a fun atmosphere (DJ, photo ops, etc) and they can be there to share it with you...take pics, hold your stuff when you visit the port-o-potties, etc! Put it to them this way...you worked your behind of for MONTHS for this...they can lose a couple of hours sleep for you! For my first PHM (and first half ever!), I had 6 people with me...they wouldn't have dreamed of missing any of it...it was exciting for all of us!

The monorail will start running early before the race starts though so you don't necessarily have to take regular resort transportation. My cheerleaders went with me to the start area last year and when I left to trek to the corrals, they walked over to the monorail and took it to MK to get set up to see me there...they said they got there just as they were about to open up the monorail station and others were lining up as well. The year before that, I took it from the start area to the Contemporary to see my BF during the WDW half marathon.

Had a meeting with my running coach and talked about many things including shoes and socks for the race. I love my Asics 2170 and my swiftwick socks (both available at running stores or on-line at road runner). My shoes are 1/2 size bigger than my normal street shoes have a wide toe box and plenty of room for the toes to "breathe" and no problems with blisters! The socks are "wicking"m running coach says no cotton socks!

When we go to Disney (headed there this Sunday, yeah!) I wear my birkenstocks and have no blister issues, wish Birki's came in running shoes!

For all my fellow running newbies and 1st time PHM's, running coach had some words of encouragement. "There will be people ahead of you and behind you. Run for you, your goals, your time, your race. Start slow and remember your training. Runners who have trained for years and done this awhile will finish fairly quickly while you will probably finish somewhere between 2:45 and 2:55 based on current pace and training in the next four months". Made me feel better! I like the post someone left about their first race with their Mom and finishing at 3:11 and now are finishing I believe in the 2 hour ish range...thanks for the inspiration! :flower3:

Finally had my podiatrist appointment today for what I have been 99.9% sure was the dreaded PF...confrimed. (I got to take home the ultrasound pic too...I keep telling everyone "look! my foot is pregnant!) Just in time too, because I've started to feel those familiar pains in my left foot so I hope to nip that one before it gets as bad as the right. Thankfully, there are no signs of rupture or tears, just alot of inflammation (almost double the size it is in my left foot!) and a reeeeeeally tight calf. Fortunately, he doesn't feel like I need to scale back any of my activity at this point. We'll start out with stretches evey day, without fail, anti-inflammatories, no walking on bare feet EVER and some supportive inserts in my athletic shoes...which coincidentally I purchased a brand he really likes at the ToT expo....Aetrex. I've seen them set up at other Disney expos too and ended up buying a pair this time because I knew I was going to be in pain after the ToT race and still needed to be at the parks for 3 days after that...and they really helped alleviate alot of the pain those days. I've started running in them now too and really like them. He'll take a look at them in a month to see if he agrees that they are the right fit for me or if I need a more agressive one. So, if you've ever thought of trying out the Aetrex insoles at the expos, give them a shot...doctor approved :thumbsup2

In other news, I have found the most FABULOUS tutu/skirt online that I MUST have for the PHM. But it's for kids...I emailed the lady that makes them last night and after a couple of back and forths she was basically telling me she couldn't make it in adult size. BUM-MER! BUT! This morning I woke up to an email from her saying "I looked up the PHM online and it made me smile...I love Disney. What size are you?" YAAAAAYYYY! It's the magic of Disney!! :wizard: I'm still waiting to hear back on the price after I emailed her some measurements...the kids sized ones she had are fairly pricey, so I don't even want to guess what an adult one will be but it is just way too cute, so I'm probably gonna splurge. I'm running the PHM for pics this time, so I gotta look good, right? I SO hope it works out!

UGH, I'm so sorry. :( Hope it responds quickly and easily to treatment!

Absolutely - Fuzzy Disney Race Math says SPLURGE! :thumbsup2:rotfl:

I went to the running store on my lunch break - just to try on a few pairs - and came back with a pair of Nike Lunarglide +4. Anyone here run in them? They seem to control my foot well - no rolling in or out, tons of heel stability, room for my toes - but the sole feels so inflexible. I'm just sitting at my desk in them for now, though. I'll give 'em a little walk on the treadmill when I get home.
