Excited to run my first princess half in 2013! Going with a bunch of ladies I have met online! It may be my first half.. I haven't decided yet if I will do a half in October too.

I am a huge pre-planner...
My plan is to run (jog) hard until I get to MK. My question is, will I see the same characters that I missed in miles 1 through 6 on the return trip, or do they rotate out characters? :wave2:

Just want to let you know also that the first couple miles are congested with all the people from your corral. When I looked back at my splits, my 5K took the longest of all my splits, and I truly thought that would be my quickest! Although I did take a side-trip to the woods... ;)

Just wanted you to know that it is very crowded at the beginning :thumbsup2

Thanks for the replies, ladies. September will be my first 10K, and I expect that I'm probably going to come in somewhere 1:13. So, that gives me a good idea of where I'll be. So excited!

This is me exactly. I am just hoping I can maintain that pace. I have until September to figure it out but I want to do it!!

I am going to do this!!! Jeff Galloway makes it look so simple. I have been trying to get myself moving - planning on the TOT in September, then, in February - the Princess. I will not let the Sweeper Bus get me!!! Super excited.

I second the thanks for the info - I am planning to do a 10k at the end of August/beginning of Sept and this gives me an idea of what to work towards :)

Tiny Dancer- I am VERY glad your friend is ok! I am sure she would agree it is a very isolating condition because it isn't common. Thanks for the encouragement!!

WsDisney and cantwaitvaca09---thank you!

I started the strengthening exercises I was given last week at the RunFast assessment and boy, they are harder than I thought they would be. Right now it is fairly "easy" stuff with lunges and some flexibility stuff but it kicked my butt. I guess that was why it was suggested I do it. I am supposed to do it 2 days a week and take at least 2 days off between each one. I hope this helps my running.

Glad I found this and joined just to get motivation and good advice. I have decided at age 45 to do a half marathon. I am pretty fit although not a runner. Already started the Jeff Galloway training program and feel good about my 14 min miles right now. Goal is to finish which from what I 'm reading can be done. Any first timers from last year with advice and how they did ? :cheer2:

Welcome !!! It sounds like you are off to a good start with 14 min. miles. There are a lot of us who use Jeff Galloway's training program.

Welcome.I am a 49 year old non runner who has decided to walk/run it. The Jeff Galloway method seems so logical-that is my plan so far. The ladies on this board are a wealth of information too.
Good luck!

That RunFast assessment sounds so awesome! I wonder if I can find a way to schedule it while we are visiting family in Michigan. I would love something like that and for what all you are getting it seems so cheap! Are you cleared to run in between exercises?

Welcome! First timer here as well and using JG. Loving it so far and cannot wait

It is out of Novi and he was really good about scheduling with me. I can send you a link for more information if you want. And yes, I can totally keeping running, actually he wants me to so we can see if things change as the mileage increases. So my week is looking like: Sunday-Strengthening, Monday-Rest/Cross Train, Tuesday-Run, Wednesday-Strengthening, Thursday-Run, Friday-Rest, Saturday-Long Run

Question for my fellow Galloway-ers...

Have you ever hit an interval "wall"? I was steadily increasing my run portions, from :30 to :45 to 1:00 to 1:30, and it was going like clockwork. But I'm just plain STUCK around 1:30run/:30 or 1:00 walk now and ahve been for a while. I do have exercise-induced asthma, but so do lots of elite and amateur athletes; we all puff on our inhalers and get it done, so I don't think it's that. My legs feel plenty strong and I have the will to go longer, but just can't seem to break through that wall consistently. On a good day, I can skip every third walk for about a mile and half out of 3, but that's the limit. Trying to do more leaves me dizzy and out of breath - not wheezing and my airways don't feel tight, just much too winded. It is, admittedly, HOT and HUMID here in FL, so maybe I just need to live with it until it cools off? :confused3

Anyone else go through this?

I also have exercise induced asthma and I have found things are a lot better for me if I use my inhaler before I begin a run. If I try and use it during, it seems to throw everything off. I think a lot of what you are experiencing is weather related though. JG does say to increase your time when running when it is hot and I think that is why you are struggling but that is just from reading since I am new to this. Good luck.

i haven't really hit a consistent interval wall, but more that I tried it for about a week before I realized I was crazy! I've always just stuck to having a short walk break (about 1 minute) at each mile. I was feeling good last year at the start of the summer and decided I'd start trying to increase that and maybe work my way up to a break every 2 miles...and the weather quickly made a fool out of me! Not only could I not increase my running interval without thinking I was going to eat the dirt at any minute, I actually had to shorten it. On all of my weekday runs last summer I switched to half mile running intervals...and even that was brutally tough. I unfortunately cannot do my weekday runs at any time other than right after work...which last summer included runs for over a month straight of 100+ degrees with the others not far under that...and don't get me started on the humidity!! And no matter how much I was told or read that it was totally normal and recommended that you slow down during weather like that, it was still deflating to me mentally. All I could think about was how I was back-tracking, etc., when that of course wasn't the case! Once the cooler temps came back, I went right back to 1 mile running intervals and trained to a PR for Tink in January. I think you're right in thinking about waiting to try to push harder with your intervals until the summer's over. I"m mentally preparing myself for all of that again now because I'm probably going to have to start with the more frequent walks in the next week or two.

I am also starting to feel the humidity here in San Antonio so I am mentally preparing for not seeing a big drop in times for miles. If I can't get motivated to get out at 7 a.m. I usually hit the treadmill since I figure me dying and/or puking outside in front of the neighbors would not go over well !:rotfl2:

So,besides Galloway, what other training programs are some of you using? I was planning on just running the princess as my first half, but now am considering running a half in October with dh was a practice run.

Sitting here staring at the rain this afternoon, wishing I was in WDW instead... And sitting here, staring at my walking boot, and wishing I was running instead of "grounded." Anybody have any low impact cross-training tips? - maybe something from the RunFast assessment would apply here?

My broken foot has relegated me to pool workouts and hot yoga only, and even then I can't do any of the balancing on one foot or standing on your tiptoes in yoga :( I finally see the specialist on Thursday, and here's hoping that they will do the right thing for me. I am trying to trust the process but I feel that in the 2 weeks since my household accident that you all heard about, my pain has actually gotten worse and my mobility has decreased, and I am utterly terrified that the podiatrist will say "let's just wait and see" which could set me back even further.

It does seem we have a lot of dancers. I think competition is in us!

Me too!! I'm a former professional dancer, and now a dance teacher...which has been quite difficult, I admit, with an air cast on my leg! I can't demo ANYTHING! But, told my kids last week that if Miss Lindsey can do the splits and situps and pushups with a broken foot, then they have no excuse!! :cheer2:

I need to start my Disney jar...February is really not so far away, and every little (big) purchase like our new TV this weekend (necessitated by the old one breaking, of course) is cutting into my RunDisney budget! :( Time to pull up my socks (OK - 1 sock and 1 cast), buckle down, and save! Can't wait until the registration and resort info gets posted!! :yay:

I use the training program called FIRST, outlined in a book called, "Run Less, Run Faster.". You run only three times per week ( very specific runs, mileage) and cross train three days and one day of rest. My cross training is either biking or swimming, non weight bearing to save on the legs. Running an additional half before the Princess would be good, if only to give you better corral placement.
Good luck!
