First of all, congratulations to PollyannaMom for being the first to reach Epilogue Green. ShannyMcB is now Page-Turning Purple. clappyclaps has reached Reader Red. And sophy1996, Alicatt, and the TEAM are Published Pink.
I have just 70 minutes since my last update. I'm hoping that in these last 3 days, I might be able to make it to red, but if not, at least pink would be nice! It's been a struggle. I feel like I'm dozing off all day long and when Charles finally goes to sleep at night (which is a whole struggle right now), I end up having to spend my few hours of "free time" before bed catching up on housework.
Speaking of the end of the month, do we have a volunteer for February?
Let's look at another book adaptation. This time, Mary Poppins, by P.L. Travers.
If you've seen the movie Saving Mr. Banks, you may feel as though you have some insight into the process of transforming this book into a film. But, from my understanding, Saving Mr. Banks doesn't accurately capture the depth of the conflicts between Travers and the Disney company when it came to the creative vision for the movie. Apparently, Travers hated the movie so much, she wept through the whole premier. She felt that the film did not correctly portray the character of Mary Poppins, namely that she was too sweet and pretty, and that the animated portions should be removed entirely. Variety reported that, not long after its release, she said, “I would have preferred that ‘Mary Poppins’ should be filmed by the British because, well, never mind, let’s not go into that.”
Travers wrote seven sequels to her Mary Poppins book, the last of which was published in 1988 when she was 90 years old.
